PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a bantamweight MMA rules bout between Romulo Costa (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Scott Smyth (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Scott Smyth told me before the fight that he's been watching a lot of DVDs so let's see if that helps him in this one! I can't wait to find out!

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 5 rounds, in the bantamweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 6 - 3 - 0, fighting out of Rio de Janeiro, Romulo Costa!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 7 - 4 - 0, fighting out of Rio de Janeiro, Scott Smyth!
The judges for this bout are Leandro Rodrigues, Edson Gomes and Seu Braga.

The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Costa misses the jab.
A big left from Smyth misses.
A combination from Smyth does no damage.
Smyth works Costa's body with a nice hook.
Costa really does look like a pencil wearing a pair of gloves. Let's hope he has a gameplan to suit that ridiculous body shape.
Costa misses with a few strikes there.
Danga de danga de dang - Costa scores with a four punch combination!
Smyth lands a jab to Costa's midsection.
Costa throws a sloppy body shot
and Smyth counters with a stiff right hand.
Smyth slips under a jab.
Costa throws a combination that misses
and Smyth counters with a two punch combo.
This has been an exciting period of action!
A cross from Smyth lands.
Costa misses with a double jab
and Smyth counters with a right hand to the body.
Smyth does a little shimmy and throws a leg kick. The leg kick missed by a considerable margin though, making him look a little bit silly for doing the shimmy.
Costa swings wildly with a couple of big hooks
and Smyth counters nicely by changing levels and landing a hook to the body.
Smyth with a jab.
Costa misses with a shot to the body
and Smyth counters with a quick right hand to the jaw.
Smyth keeps his opponent at a distance with a nice jab.

Costa is rocked!

That's one minute gone in the round.
Smyth scoring well with a low kick there.
Smyth cracks a nice hook into Costa's ribs.
Smyth catches Costa with a nice straight right. He seems pissed - ooooh, it's on now! On like donkey kong!
A lazy left from Smyth finds it's target.
Oh Costa is still all over the place! His legs are completely gone! Will he be able to recover?!!
Costa slips under a jab.
Costa seems to have got his legs back now.
Costa takes a really solid shot there but just smiles back and shrugs his shoulders.
Smyth lands with an overhand left.
Smyth moves out of range as Costa strikes.
Smyth is using his reach advantage to land shots from outside his opponent's range.
Smyth connects with a nice looking jab.
Costa takes a jab on the nose there. A little bit of blood seems to be coming out. Hopefully that won't affect his breathing.
Smyth closes the distance and lands a vicious right hand that drops Costa! Smyth dives in looking to finish! Costa is still trying to defend himself but he's taking too many shots and the referee has no choice but to stop the fight!
