The bell rings for round one and we are underway!

Gene gets caught flat footed, as Yamamoto shoots in with a quick takedown into guard.
Yamamoto trying to pass the guard but can't manage it just yet.
Gene is trying to stand up but he's not managed so far.
Gene utilising some decent striking defenses from the guard, preventing the ground and pound.
Yamamoto stands up and looks to throw the legs aside to pass to side control. Gene swivels though and keeps the full guard.
Gene wants to get back to his feet but Yamamoto is in a dominant position and won't allow it.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Yamamoto throwing elbows and punches but not connecting, as Gene works some decent striking defense from the bottom.
Gene avoiding any damage from the ground and pound.

It looks like we're going to have a standup here. Neither fighter is doing enough on the ground.
Gene lunges in with an uppercut that skims his opponent's chin.
Yamamoto takes one on the chin but seems OK.

Yamamoto shoots in for a takedown and gets it. Let's see what he's got on the mat.

Yamamoto stands up and looks to throw the legs aside to pass to side control. Gene swivels though and keeps the full guard.

The referee decides to stand the fighters back up.

There's not a lot going on here and the crowd are letting the fighters know they're not willing to tolerate a lack of action.
Gene pushes Yamamoto off looking to stand but Yamamoto dives back in and keeps control.
Yamamoto has the superior BJJ but he's also working some ground strikes into his gameplan.
Yamamoto wants to pass the guard but Gene is defending well.

Yamamoto wants to control the pace but Gene is squirming around nicely.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.

Gene turning a nasty shade of purple. He's refusing to tap but he's gone! He's out! The ref rips Yamamoto off and cradles Gene's limp body as Yamamoto celebrates with his corner.
