The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Nogueira fails in his attempt to clinch.
Macedo shoots in looking for a takedown. Nogueira tries to sprawl out of it but Macedo keeps driving through. The fighters are pinned against the cage. Nogueira manages to get underhooks and after a bit of a struggle, circles away and we're back to standing.

Macedo drops down and drives through with a powerful takedown into guard.
Nogueira not looking particularly offensive just at the moment.
Macedo passes into half guard.
Nogueira regains full guard. Nicely done.
Macedo throwing elbows and punches but not connecting, as Nogueira works some decent striking defense from the bottom.

Nogueira is edging up against the cage. He's using the cage to get back to his feet. Nice work there - the fighters are clinched.

Macedo jumps guard but Nogueira stands there with Macedo around his waist. Macedo gives up and drops back to his feet. We remain in the clinch.

Macedo shoots in and gets a takedown into half guard. Macedo showed some decent athleticism there.

The referee calls for the fighters to work.
Macedo could do with loosing a few pounds - he looks very soft around the mid section, to put it politely.
Nogueira wants to improve his position but Macedo is controlling well.
Macedo is figuring out what he wants to do next.

Macedo is thinking about going for an arm triangle but he can't free his leg.
Macedo tries to pass the half guard into mount. Nogueira knows what he's doing though and prevents the attempt.
Macedo is breathing heavily.
Nogueira is looking for a sweep. Macedo is wise to his cunning plan and keeps the top position.
Macedo stops Nogueira from getting back to his feet.

Macedo wants to control but Nogueira is keeping him busy.

Neither fighter is doing enough for the referee's liking and he's decided to stand them back up.
Nogueira tries for a takedown but Macedo circles away easily

and Macedo counters with a nice single leg takedown and he's in Nogueira's guard now.
Renan Macedo has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Wanderlei Nogueira.
Macedo prevents Nogueira from getting back to his feet.
Macedo is taking a break and basically stalling. The referee will not allow him to do that for long.

Macedo closes the distance, clinches up and gets a nice trip takedown into side control. Very smooth.

You can see the frustration on Nogueira's face, being in this tough position on the bottom.

The fighters are starting to get a bit slippery now, which will make submissions a bit more difficult.
Macedo is maintaining the dominant position - no doubt Nogueira will start to get frustrated soon if he's not already.
