PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a welterweight MMA rules bout between Hans Gruber (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Big Oh (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). These two fighters really are very evenly matched on the feet - it will be fascinating to see who can assert themselves in that aspect of the fight.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the welterweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 1 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Helsinki, Hans Gruber!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 1 - 3 - 0, fighting out of Helsinki, Big Oh!
The judges for this bout are Matti Vanhoillinen, Arvi Lind and Ben Zyskovitsi.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Gruber looking to take his opponent's legs away with the low kicks.
Gruber keeps the fight standing with a nice sprawl.
Gruber slaps away a takedown attempt from Oh, before circling back to the center of the mat.
A thudding body kick lands there by Gruber!
Oh throws a looping left and ducks down for a takedown. He's got his arms around Gruber's waist but Gruber gets an underhook and avoids the takedown by throwing Oh off to one side.
Hans Gruber has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Big Oh.
Oh shoots in for a takedown. "I don't think so" says Gruber as he avoids it easily.
Gruber tests Oh's chin there with a solid looking shot.
Gruber tries to clinch but Oh moves out of range.

Oh keeps the fight on the outside.
Gruber throws a sloppy head kick and Oh moves out of range easily.
Gruber tries to clinch there but Oh circles away.
Gruber is looking to slow Oh down with leg kicks.
Oh blocks a head kick by Gruber.
Oh shoots in looking for a takedown. Gruber tries to sprawl out of it but Oh keeps driving through. The fighters are pinned against the cage. Gruber manages to get underhooks and after a bit of a struggle, circles away and we're back to standing.

A few boos can be heard. I'm sure they will multiply if the fighters don't pick up the pace.
Oh blocks a head kick by Gruber.
Oh shoots in for a takedown. "Ole!" shouts Gruber as he jumps to the side.
Oh dodges the punch combination from Gruber.
Gruber misses with a double jab.

Oh scores a trip takedown into side control. Nice.

Oh wants to work for a kimura but he's foiled early by Gruber, who protects the arm well.
Gruber tries to escape but Oh is in control.

Oh swings around for an armbar but Gruber sees it coming a mile off and turns beautifully into Oh's guard.
Oh looks gassed!

Oh has a loose triangle. He'll be looking to tighten that up but Gruber can see exactly what he's planning and manages to posture up and free himself.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.

Gruber knows he needs to get back to his feet asap. He's simply no match for Oh on the ground.

A left and a right from Gruber both land. Nice combination.
Gruber tries to clinch but Oh moves out of range.
Gruber connects with a lovely jab that went straight through the gap between Oh's hands.

Neither fighter is doing enough for the referee's liking and he's decided to stand them back up.

Gruber throws a jab to the body, straight down the pipe. Boom. That sent Oh stumbling backwards but he manages to regain his composure quickly.

Oh shoots in for a takedown but Gruber shows good takedown defense there and keeps this one on the feet.

Neither fighter has done anything of merit for a good minute or two here and the crowd are not happy about it.

Oh closes the distance and clinches up with Gruber, looking for a takedown. Oh pushes Gruber against the cage but Gruber circles to the side and manages to break the clinch.

Well, he's not going to score with shots like that. A lazy body kick attempt from Gruber.

That was a close second round but I would say that Hans Gruber will probably get the nod.

Gruber swings away but doesn't land with a series of punches.

Oh drops back for a leg! It's a sloppy attempt though and Oh jumps back into guard quickly, to retain the dominant position.

Oh postures up as if he's going to throw some strikes but drops back for an ankle! Gruber is in big trouble! He looks ready to tap! But no, he's escaped and dives on top of Oh, into his guard.
Hans Gruber is fighting for a decision here - he's started to take the cautious approach.

Oh has an omoplata and is looking to use it perhaps as a submission or perhaps to transition. Gruber is in a bit of discomfort here, but he's managed to free himself and has dived into side control! That didn't work out too well for Oh.

Well I reckon that's a shut out for Gruber, winning every round. Will the judges agree? They are the ones who matter, even if they are often depressingly incompetent. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
