PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a heavyweight MMA rules bout between Vladimir Andreev (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Dmitriy Bashkin (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Well, I have no idea who's going to take this one!

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the heavyweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 0 - 1 - 0, fighting out of Helsinki, Vladimir Andreev!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 0 - 1 - 0, fighting out of Helsinki, Dmitriy Bashkin!
The judges for this bout are Anni Minnemäki, Matti Vanhoillinen and Johanna Lukiainen.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!

Bashkin clinches up with Andreev and pushes him back against the ropes.
Jeez, both these guys look absolutely knackered already, that's not a good sign!
Bashkin takes an elbow to the forehead.


It looks like Dmitriy Bashkin has been cut.
Bashkin tries to pull guard but Andreev holds him up against the ropes and eventually Bashkin drops back down to his feet.
Bashkin gets underhooks to prevent Andreev's takedown attempt.

Bashkin breaks the clinch and we're back to striking at distance.
Andreev lands a jab.
Andreev will have to do better than that with his takedown attempts.

Bashkin closes the distance and gets a double leg, slamming Andreev to the mat! Andreev manages to get full guard.
Bashkin is intent on slowing down the pace of the fight, simply looking to control.

Andreev tries to land a sweep but no joy.
The fighters are trapped in the ropes so we're going to have a reposition here. The ref calls for a break and repositions the fighters in the center of the ring.
Bashkin throwing shots from guard but he's hitting more mat than opponent.
Andreev really is a fat lump.

Bashkin got a little sloppy there for a moment and Andreev has worked his way into a loose triangle - can he finish it?! No, Bashkin has managed to get both his arms back between Andreev's legs - danger averted.
Andreev throws some sloppy strikes off his back.

My god... these two guys really need to pick up the pace or everyone will leave to go get a beer.

The referee has ruled that neither fighter is active enough on the ground and has stood them back up.

Andreev is looking to improve his position.
Andreev wants to control but Bashkin is keeping busy.
Bashkin thumps the canvas. Not on purpose obviously - he just missed Andreev's head.

Bashkin takes a deep breath and rests his weight momentarily on top of his opponent, to control the position.
Andreev wants to control but Bashkin is keeping busy and won't allow it.
Andreev wants to get back to full guard.

The referee decides to stand the fighters back up.

Bashkin drives through with a really nice takedown into side control.
The fighters are starting to get a bit slippery now, which will make submissions a bit more difficult.
Andreev takes an elbow right on the bridge of the nose and winces in pain.

Andreev is not content to let Bashkin control the position.
Bashkin has control of an arm but Andreev manages to advance to Bashkin's back!
Bashkin tries to escape the position - he's now mounted. Is that better or worse? Hard to tell!
Bashkin has the superior BJJ but he's also working some ground strikes into his gameplan.

Andreev controls Bashkin momentarily but Bashkin frees himself.
Both fighters are absolutely exhausted here.

Bashkin seems content to control from guard here. He's going to have to remain active though if he doesn't want to get stood back up.

The crowd are showing their displeasure at the lack of action as loud boos ring out around the arena.
Andreev is trying to stand.
Bashkin performing his best blanket impression for a moment.
Andreev wants to improve his position but Bashkin is controlling well.

Andreev misses with a double jab.
Andreev throws a head kick but Bashkin moves out of range.

Bashkin fakes with an overhand right and moves in to clinch with Andreev, pushing him back against the ropes.
Bashkin wants a takedown but no success here.
Bashkin is trying to slow down the pace of the fight but Andreev is keeping busy.

Bashkin pulls guard successfully.

Dmitriy Bashkin showed his class in that round. I'd imagine he'll take it on all the scorecards.

That's the end of the round. The referee orders the cornermen out of the ring so we can get back down to business. This is the final round!

Andreev is trying to defend against the ground and pound but Bashkin scores with a couple of nice shots.

Andreev is trying to control but can't.
Bashkin lands a big shot. The thud that echoes around the arena is like music to the fans' ears.
Bashkin is trying to get back to his feet now but his leg is trapped.

Bashkin escapes and gets back to his feet.
Bashkin tries to score with a leg kick but it misses it's target.
A combination from Andreev does no damage.

Bashkin fakes an overhand right and shoots for a takedown. Andreev sprawls well initially but Bashkin persists and gets the takedown into half guard.
Bashkin slows the pace down in half guard.
Bashkin working some ground and pound from close in. He's looking to maintain this position and strike for a while by the looks of things... although he'll probably advance to full mount in a minute now I've said that.

Andreev is looking to regain full guard. Not this time though.
Andreev is working hard here to advance position.
Andreev tries to strike from the bottom but it doesn't land.

Bashkin stalling.

Bashkin stands up out of the half guard.
Some wild striking there from Bashkin.
Bashkin tries to shoot in for a takedown. He's got hold of a leg but Andreev swivels and escapes.

The crowd are starting to boo a lack of action.

Andreev has Bashkin up against the ropes in a clinch.
Bashkin fails to pull guard.
Vladimir Andreev has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Dmitriy Bashkin.

Bashkin breaks from the clinch.
Bashkin tries to clinch up but Andreev circles away and keeps his distance.
Vladimir Andreev is looking to throw some combinations by the looks of things.

Andreev changes levels and drives through with a really nice takedown into side control. Bashkin looks really pissed at himself for not defending that better.
Bashkin is trying to get back to half guard.
Andreev tries to get to his feet but Bashkin is in the middle of advancing position himself and ends up with Andreev in his guard.
Bashkin throws some sloppy strikes off his back.

Dmitriy Bashkin comfortably won the final round on my scorecard.
I've got Bashkin winning every round here. Surely the decision will go his way and he'll pick up a well deserved decision victory. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
