PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a welterweight MMA rules bout between Charlie Fear (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Richie Mancha (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). I'm sure you'll be fascinated to know that I was talking to some pointless Z list celebrity before the fight and he thought that Richie Mancha was going to win. Let's see if he was right.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the welterweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Sydney, Charlie Fear!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 1, fighting out of Sydney, Richie Mancha!
The judges for this bout are Steve Erwin, Summer Carpenter and Eliza Hachem.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Fear is looking to clinch but Mancha is avoiding it.

Mancha bobs and weaves into range and then changes levels and scores with a nice takedown into side control.
Fear really does look like a pencil wearing a pair of gloves. Let's hope he has a gameplan to suit that ridiculous body shape.

Fear explodes and escapes back to his feet! Nice escape there!
Fear lands with a nice combination. Mancha backs away looking to recover.
Fear throws a wild combination but nothing lands.
A telegraphed takedown attempt from Fear is defended easily by Mancha.
The fight stays on the outside here - Fear looks like he's thinking about clinching though.
Mancha shoots in for a takedown. "Ole!" shouts Fear as he jumps to the side.
Fear fails to land with the punch combination there - jab, cross, hook, miss, miss, miss.
Fear shoots in for a takedown but doesn't get it.
Fear throws a right and a left that both miss.
Mancha lets the fists fly and connects with a left straight followed by a right hook.
The fans in attendance giving it up for the two fighters, who have really let it all hang out in the last minute or so!
Fear shoots in but Mancha avoids the takedown attempt easily.
That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Charlie Fear. That's going to take a lot out of him.

Mancha shoots in and gets a takedown into half guard. Mancha showed some decent athleticism there.
Fear is breathing heavily.

Mancha is trying to control. Fear wants to improve his position but can't escape this time.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
Mancha working over Fear with some ground and pound. Fear looks like he wants out of this position, which is understandable.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
Fear is working for an escape here. He's hooked one of Mancha's legs and he's managed to sneak out and take Mancha's back!
Fear throwing strikes from the back - he gets a warning from the referee for striking the back of the head but all these shots are hurting Mancha!

Mancha can't escape the position.
Mancha just trying to survive but Fear is wriggling into a better position, looking to finish.
Mancha tries to escape the position - he's now mounted. Is that better or worse? Hard to tell!

The crowd are getting on the fighters' backs, as the pace has dropped off in the last minute or so.
Fear landing strikes, looking to finish!
Mancha wants to control but Fear is having none of it.
Mancha is desperately trying to improve his position but Fear has a good base and remains in mount.

Fear looking for a guillotine from mount but Mancha is having none of it.

Fear throwing shots from mount but they're not landing.
Mancha tries to hold on but Fear postures up.
Mancha is squirming around, avoiding Fear's attempts to control the action.
Fear lands a shot to the body, followed up by a shot to the exposed head of his trapped opponent.

Fear is looking to secure an arm. He's managed it! He's pivoting for an armbar - that looks tight! But Mancha has managed to get out of it and now he's in a dominant position. Nice work from Mancha!

That's four minutes gone in the round.
A few boos can be heard. I'm sure they will multiply if the fighters don't pick up the pace.
Fear seems keen to control rather than go for a submission, at least for now.
Fear throws a couple of weedy looking strikes off his back.

Fear has a loose triangle. He'll be looking to tighten that up but Mancha can see exactly what he's planning and manages to posture up and free himself.
There's a bit of a scramble here and now Fear is on top in guard.
Fear has been looking to land a fair amount of strikes on the ground. He might be looking to soften his opponent up in order to work for a submission.
The crowd applaud the fighters efforts here as the round comes to an end.

Fear gets to his feet. Mancha looking to butt scoot but the ref puts an end to that. On your feet son!
Fear misses with a jab, cross combination.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Charlie Fear dominated that round.
The fighters get back to their feet, the hooter sounds and we're back to the action!


Fear wants to clinch.
Fear is looking to clinch but Mancha is avoiding it.
Fear throws a series of punches but Mancha avoids them all with ease.
Fear looks to score with a combo but nothing lands.
Fear misses with a head kick.
Fear with a lazy takedown attempt

and Mancha holds on and brings the fighters into a clinch.
Fear looking to stall.

Mancha gets double underhooks and manages to take the fight to the ground.
Mancha slips nicely into half guard.
Both fighters are absolutely exhausted here.
Mancha working some ground and pound from close in. He's looking to maintain this position and strike for a while by the looks of things... although he'll probably advance to full mount in a minute now I've said that.

Mancha tries to stand but his hand is stuck under Fear.
Fear is trying to maintain the position but Mancha is very close to passing his half guard.

Fear has one foot on Mancha's thigh - he pushes off and manages to get back to his feet.
Mancha walks forward and throws out a flicking leg kick. Fear checks it nicely though, as he moves to the side.
Fear dives in and grabs Mancha's left leg, looking for a takedown. Mancha pushes down on Fear's head and hops out.

That's two minutes gone in the round.

Fear throws a one two combo.
Mancha takes one to the side of the head.
Fear throws a right hand that Mancha ducks under and follows up with a left that Mancha also avoids with ease.
Nice takedown defense from Mancha. No joy for Fear on that attempt.

Charlie Fear is looking to throw some combinations by the looks of things.
Fear misses with a two punch combination.
Fear doesn't manage to clinch there - Mancha circles away.
A head kick misses from Mancha.
Mancha tries to close the distance and clinch up against the cage but Fear paws at him with a jab and circles away.
Fear shoots for a takedown but Mancha saw that one coming a mile off and avoided it easily.

Mancha has closed the distance and engaged Fear in a clinch.
Mancha tries to pull guard but Fear holds him up against the cage and eventually Mancha drops back down to his feet.

Fear lands a body punch - he's looking to wear down Mancha.
Fear avoiding damage as Mancha throws knees to the body.
Mancha has Fear pressed against the cage, preventing Fear from circling away and getting back to striking at range.
Fear is trying to force a seperation but Mancha has the dominant position.
Mancha lands a shot to the body.
Fear is trying to break the clinch but Mancha is controlling him.
Come on Fear - let's have some action - none of this stalling nonsense.

Mancha has dropped down and is working for a takedown. Fear is trying to keep an underhook but Mancha manages to get the takedown into half guard.
Fear is trying to stand up here but Mancha is controlling him well.

Fear is looking to sinch up a guillotine here but Mancha pulls his head out easily.
Mancha prevents Fear from improving his position.
Fear flails away from the bottom but he's not doing any damage.

Fear is looking to control Mancha's leg but it's slowly edging free. Can Fear avoid being mounted?
Fear is in a bad position, trying to hold on for dear life but he is really struggling to maintain any sort of control.
Fear makes his way to full guard. A much better position for Fear.
Fear looking for a sweep. Not yet Fear, not yet.

The referee decides to stand the fighters back up.
Fear looks to score with a combo but nothing lands.
Horrible takedown by Mancha or perhaps it was just good defense by Fear which made him look bad.
Fear misses with a double jab

and Mancha counters with a shoot takedown. Fear fights it but they end up in guard.
Fear looking to control.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Richie Mancha showed his class in that round. I'd imagine he'll take it on all the scorecards.
The referee calls time. The cornermen exit stage left and we're back to business. This is the final round!


Mancha leaves Fear with his face pressed against the mat as he sprawls beautifully, defending against a solid takedown attempt.

Fear gets caught flat footed, as Mancha shoots in with a quick takedown into guard.
Mancha makes a bit of distance and scores with some ground and pound, still in guard.
Fear punching to the body, from the bottom.
Fear is working the butterfly guard. He manages to land a nice scissor sweep and is now in half guard on the top. Nice move.
Mancha controlling the position for now.

Fear stands up from half guard.
Both fighters are breathing heavily.
Fear swings wildly with a couple of big hooks

and Mancha counters with a shoot takedown. Fear fights it but they end up in guard.

Fear had isolated an arm as going for a kimura. Mancha defends it easily.

Fear looking to hit a scissor sweep but Mancha is one step ahead there.
Fear is looking to get back to his feet but can't, whilst Mancha is controlling him.

Fear is edging up against the cage. He's using the cage to get back to his feet. Nice work there - the fighters are clinched.
Fear is trying to work out of this bad position, with his back against the cage.
Fear misses with a punch on the inside.
Fear letting Mancha take a breather here.
Mancha keeps the fight in the clinch, despite Fear's efforts to push away.

The crowd are getting on the fighters' backs, as the pace has dropped off in the last minute or so.
Mancha drops down looking for an ankle pick but Fear pulls his leg out and moves away.
Mancha avoids the clinch attempt nicely.
Fear throws a sloppy head kick and Mancha moves out of range easily.

Mancha looks for a takedown. He's got it. We're now in half guard.
Mancha prevents Fear from improving his position.

Fear makes some distance and scrambles quickly back to his feet. Nice work!
Fear looks frustrated there after his takedown attempt is stuffed easily.

Mancha is looking for a takedown here. He's shot in and has managed to get it, finishing up in Fear's half guard.

Fear is looking to improve his position.

Fear manages to escape and get back to his feet!
Fear lets loose with a powerful body kick. Mancha will feel that in the morning.
Fear throws a series of punches but Mancha avoids them all with ease.

Mancha feints and then dives in with a takedown. That was a long way out but the feint bought him enough time to close the distance and complete the takedown. Now we'll play guard for a bit and see who can get the better of that position.

Richie Mancha comfortably won the final round on my scorecard.
I think Mancha has won this one but let's see whether the judges agree with me. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
