PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a light heavyweight MMA rules bout between Layzie Assassin (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and George Martin (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Assassin comes to the cage accompanied by Thuggish Ruggish Bone. Martin has chosen Song of Ice and Fire Art Collection as his entrance music. Both fighters really staring eachother down here, as George Martin enters the cage!

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the light heavyweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 11 - 4 - 1, fighting out of Los Angeles, Layzie Assassin!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 12 - 6 - 0, fighting out of Los Angeles, George Martin!
The judges for this bout are Jack Bonds, Timothy Bukovac and Frank Antenori.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Assassin takes a nice looking leg kick right on the meat of his thigh there.
Martin avoids the body shot from Assassin.
Assassin keeps the fight on the outside.
Martin is looking to clinch.
Martin misses the shot to the body.
Martin scores with a slapping inside leg kick.
Assassin changes levels and looks for a double leg takedown. Martin tries to avoid it but Assassin manages to keep hold of a leg and drag Martin to the ground. Martin escapes though and pops straight back up to his feet.
Assassin fails with a takedown attempt from distance.
Martin tests Assassin's chin there with a solid looking shot.

Assassin tries to shoot in for a takedown. He's got hold of a leg but Martin swivels and escapes.
That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Layzie Assassin. That's going to take a lot out of him.
Assassin sees a low kick coming and goes to check it, but it's actually a body kick and it thuds into his unprotected ribs.
Nice defenses there by Assassin.
Martin swings away but doesn't land with a series of punches.
Assassin tries to shoot in for a takedown. He's got hold of a leg but Martin swivels and escapes.
Martin throws a series of strikes that have Assassin backpedaling.
A punch combination from Martin misses.

That's two minutes gone in the round.

Martin closes the distance, clinches up and gets a nice trip takedown into side control. Very smooth.

Martin stands up and we're back to a striking position.
Assassin throws a nice looking combination but Martin bobs and weaves to avoid any damage.
Assassin misses with a takedown attempt
and Martin counters with an inside leg kick.
We've seen a great period of action over the last minute or so - credit to both fighters for going all out!

and Martin counters with a shoot takedown into half guard.

Martin performing his best blanket impression for a moment.
Martin tries to pass the half guard into mount. Assassin knows what he's doing though and prevents the attempt.
Assassin is trying to get back to full guard.
Martin slows the pace down in half guard.
We may be looking at a referee standup if the pace doesn't pick up soon.
Assassin tries to roll over but Martin keeps him under control.

George Martin has forced the referee to step in and restart the fight on the feet.
Assassin moves out of range as Martin strikes.

The crowd are starting to boo a lack of action.
Assassin shoots in but doesn't get the takedown
and Martin counters with a quick right hand to the jaw.

Martin shoots in and gets a takedown into half guard. Martin showed some decent athleticism there.

As the round comes to an end the crowd are showing their appreciation for a great round of action.

And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

George Martin dominated that round.
OK. That's time! The bell goes and we're back to the action.


Martin lands a nice looking body kick.
Martin feints and then cracks Assassin's leading leg with a nice low kick. He's obviously looking to slow Assassin down.
Assassin takes a thudding leg kick, right into the meat of the thigh.
Martin throws a combination that misses
and Assassin counters with a straight punch to the midsection.

Martin closes the distance and gets a double leg, slamming Assassin to the mat! Assassin manages to get full guard.

Assassin is looking for a triangle but Martin pushes his legs off easily.

Assassin is working hard here to advance position.
Assassin bucks up whilst keeping hold of a body lock, managing to reverse the position. Now he's in top in Martin's guard.
Assassin trying to control but Martin is working from the bottom.
Assassin postures up to throw the ground and pound strikes but they don't connect.
Assassinis looking to pass into half guard but Martin pushes him away with his feet and jumps on top - now Martin is in guard.
Martin is taking a break and basically stalling. The referee will not allow him to do that for long.
Martin wants to stand but Assassin is controlling his posture from full guard.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
Martin wants to pass the guard but Assassin is keeping the position.

Assassin looking for submissions from the bottom here. Moving his hips around, possibly looking for an armbar.
Martin wants to stand but Assassin has a closed guard, so he can't escape.
If this pace continues, the referee will definitely step in and force a standup.
Martin looking to control the position here, rather than advance.
Assassin tries to land a sweep but no joy.

Assassin is working from a closed guard but he's struggling to control his opponent.

OK we're going to have a standup here. George Martin hasn't been effective enough on the ground and the referee wants a restart.
Martin fakes a jab and then connects with a hook.
Martin looks to throw the jab but Assassin is out of range.
Assassin rushes forward with a series of wild hooks but Martin moves out of range and avoids them all easily.
No luck with that takedown attempt from Martin.
George Martin seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.
Martin looks for the body kick but Assassin saw that one coming.

That's four minutes gone in the round.
Neither fighter has done anything of merit for a good minute or two here and the crowd are not happy about it.
Assassin on the receiving end of a decent leg kick there by Martin. Martin obviously looking to wear him down.
Assassin lands with a good body shot.
Assassin uses some good footwork to avoid the body shot by Martin.
Martin chopping away at his opponent's legs.
Martin throws out a token jab with nothing on it.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

George Martin showed his class in that round. I'd imagine he'll take it on all the scorecards.
That's the end of the interval. I'm sure that seemed a lot quicker than a minute for our two fighters! Back to the action. So, we enter the final round. Let's see if either fighter can bring us a finish, or whether we're going to the judges scorecards.

George Martin seems to be getting the better of the standup.
Assassin misses with a wild body shot.
Martin throws a half hearted mid kick.
Martin throws out a leg kick but Assassin moves out of range and Martin only half commits.
Assassin with a lazy takedown attempt
and Martin counters with a head kick. That will keep Assassin thinking before he tries any more sloppy attacks!
This is turning into a torrid day at the office for Assassin. He's trying desperately to land a takedown but he's failing miserably and getting slapped silly on the feet to compound his misery.
Assassin blocks the body kick.
Assassin punishes Martin's body with a nice straight punch.
Martin cracks Assassin with a good shot that sees him stumbling back into the cage.

Martin ducks down and throws a hook to the body but Assassin moves away.
An inside leg kick lands from Martin.
Martin dips down and scores with a jab to the body.
Assassin tries for a takedown but Martin circles away easily

and Martin counters with a shoot takedown. Assassin fights it but they end up in guard.
Assassin manages to sweep nicely, so he's now on top. Martin manages to get himself to full guard.
Martin has been the more effective fighter overall so far.

Martin looking to sweep here. No luck so far.
Assassin wants to control from the top but Martin keeps moving.
Martin controls Assassin momentarily but Assassin frees himself.
Assassin wants to pass the guard but Martin is keeping the position.

The referee has ruled that neither fighter is active enough on the ground and has stood them back up.

Assassin gets taken down but at least he's managed to land in guard.
Martin advances to half guard.

Assassin looking for submissions off his back.
George Martin has got the better of the ground game so far.
Still in half guard, Martin seems content to control.
Assassin is looking to regain full guard. Not this time though.
Martin content to sit in half guard and control for a moment.

George Martin is fighting for a decision here - he's started to take the cautious approach.

Martin is figuring out what he wants to do next.
Martin wants to pass the guard but Assassin is defending well.
We may be looking at a referee standup if the pace doesn't pick up soon.

Martin is intent on slowing down the pace of the fight, simply looking to control.
Martin's corner are shouting for him to control the position and he seems happy to oblige.

George Martin comfortably won the final round on my scorecard.
Well Martin has outworked and out performed his opponent in all aspects of the game today. He was simply too good and the decision should be no more than a formality. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
