PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a light heavyweight MMA rules bout between Rumpel Stilzchen (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Carlos Herrera (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). We have two fighters making their debuts here, so let's see who comes out of this one with their first professional victory.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the light heavyweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Las Vegas, Rumpel Stilzchen!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Las Vegas, Carlos Herrera!
The judges for this bout are Tiny Johnson, George Francis and Chris Downing.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!

Herrera scores a trip takedown into side control. Nice.

Herrera stands up and we're back to a striking position.
Stilzchen avoids the head kick by Herrera.
Herrera misses with a takedown attempt - Stilzchen sprawls well and throws a nice strike on the way out which just misses.

Herrera scores with a takedown into Stilzchen's guard.
Herrera must be cautious of submissions here, given that his opponent has the superior Jiu Jitsu.

Stilzchen has his feet on Herrera's hips. He pushes off and gets to his feet. Nice work.
Herrera bobs and weaves and throws out a fast jab that snaps Stilzchen's head backwards.

Herrera feints and then dives in with a takedown. That was a long way out but the feint bought him enough time to close the distance and complete the takedown. Now we'll play guard for a bit and see who can get the better of that position.
Stilzchen tries to land a sweep but no joy.
A real slowdown in the pace of the fight for a moment, as Stilzchen holds on and takes a little breather.

Herrera won't allow Stilzchen to get back to his feet.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
Stilzchen looking to control the pace of the fight rather than finish it.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
Stilzchen avoiding any damage from the ground and pound.
Herrera throws and elbow that misses. Stilzchen uses the momentum to reverse the position. He's now in Herrera's guard. Nice move by Stilzchen!
Herrera is trying to keep Stilzchen in close.

Herrera can't do much from the bottom at the moment, as Stilzchen controls the pace.

The crowd are showing their displeasure at the lack of action as loud boos ring out around the arena.
Stilzchen's ground tactics aren't going to win him many fans. Let's hope he's got fireworks for us if he gets back to his feet because he's not doing much on the ground.
Herrera is wriggling around but Stilzchen manages to pass to half guard.
Herrera is trying to maintain the position but Stilzchen is very close to passing his half guard.
Stilzchen wants to pass the guard but Herrera is defending well.
Herrera works his way to full guard. Good work.

Stilzchen is frustrating his opponent with some stalling tactics from top position.

Stilzchen stands and steps away. Herrera gets to his feet too and we're back to the striking game.
Stilzchen avoids a punch combination nicely.
Stilzchen tries to clinch but Herrera is having none of it.

Herrera throws the overhand right but ducks down into a quick takedown attempt. Stilzchen was covering up waiting for the punch and Herrera finishes the takedown easily into guard.

Herrera wanted to stand there but Stilzchen had control of the position.

Stilzchen escapes his hips to the side and looks to be working for an armbar. Herrera gives him a little smile and shakes his head. No chance.

Herrera looking to sit in guard and control but Stilzchen gets the butterfly guard and sweeps. He's now in the guard on the top.

Herrera has his feet on Stilzchen's hips. He pushes off and gets to his feet. Nice work.

Stilzchen shoots in looking for a single leg takedown. Herrera is trying to defend but Stilzchen finishes it well and ends up in half guard. Let's see if he can advance position further.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

A close round but Carlos Herrera will probably get the nod.
The fighters get back to their feet, the hooter sounds and we're back to the action!

There's not a lot going on here and the crowd are letting the fighters know they're not willing to tolerate a lack of action.

Stilzchen is staying calm and holding on to the back position, whilst working on a rear naked choke. Herrera is defending well though. Stilzchen let's go of the attempt for now.

Herrera is being controlled on the ground here - he must escape this position otherwise surely the end is near.

A few boos can be heard. I'm sure they will multiply if the fighters don't pick up the pace.

Stilzchen is doing well to control the posture of his opponent and prevent any damage.

And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

That was a close second round but I would say that Rumpel Stilzchen will probably get the nod.
The referee calls time. The cornermen exit stage left and we're back to business. The crowd applaud as we get ready to start the final round!



Herrera shoots in and gets a takedown into half guard. Herrera showed some decent athleticism there.
Herrera is trying to advance to mount but he's lost his balance and Stilzchen reverses the position - he's now on top in Herrera's guard.
Herrera is working from a closed guard but he's struggling to control his opponent.
Stilzchen connects with a couple of short punches.

Stilzchen decides he's had enough of playing guard and decides to stand. Come on Herrera, up you get!

Herrera shoots in from a long way out. He's driving through with the takedown attempt and he eventually gets it, landing in Stilzchen's guard.
Both fighters are breathing heavily.

Stilzchen is looking for a guillotine. You can't force these things though and Herrera defends well.

Stilzchen has a closed guard, preventing anything of note from happening. Perhaps he's looking to stall.

Stilzchen is active off his back here, looking for submissions.

There's not a lot going on here and the crowd are letting the fighters know they're not willing to tolerate a lack of action.

Herrera drops back for a leg! It's a sloppy attempt though and Herrera jumps back into guard quickly, to retain the dominant position.

Herrera wants to control from the top but Stilzchen keeps moving.

Stilzchen working from the bottom, still in full guard. He's managed to get a loose triangle. Herrera doesn't seem to be doing much to defend here, obviously he feels comfortable in the position. Herrera manages to throw the legs off his shoulder and he's back into guard - no problem.

Herrera chips away with some ground and pound.
Herrera wanted to stand there but Stilzchen had control of the position.

Herrera is fighting to break Stilzchen's control of his arms but Stilzchen is doing a good job of controlling the position at the moment.
Herrera advances to half guard.

A lull in the action here being met with boos from the crowd.
Herrera is looking to take a break and control but Stilzchen is keeping him honest, looking to work from the bottom.
Stilzchen is holding on to half guard well.

Stilzchen is defending against the submission attempts here by Herrera.
Herrera is trying to get back to his feet now but his leg is trapped.

And that's the end of the fight!
I would just about give that final round to Carlos Herrera.
Well Herrera has outworked and out performed his opponent in all aspects of the game today. He was simply too good and the decision should be no more than a formality. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
