Coming up we have a welterweight MMA rules bout between Gabriel Emerson (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Pablo Ja (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Emerson comes to the cage accompanied by Laurent Wolf - No Stress. Both these guys have really solid chins. Will we see a standup war or will they both decide that a knockout is unlikely and try to win the fight elsewhere?

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the welterweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 8 - 5 - 2, fighting out of Rio de Janeiro, Gabriel Emerson!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 7 - 3 - 0, fighting out of Rio de Janeiro, Pablo Ja!
The judges for this bout are Leandro Rodrigues, Edson Gomes and Emerson Jorge.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Ja throws out a powerful jab.
Ja throws a right and a left that Emerson avoids nicely.
Ja misses with a body shot.
Pablo Ja seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.

Emerson moves into the clinch successfully.
Emerson has Ja pressed up against the cage and is working for takedown. Ja manages to improve position though and keeps the fight standing.

Ja drags the fight down to the ground.

Emerson is holding a leg here, probably looking for an ankle lock - he drops back and goes for it! Ja is in trouble! Is it all over??? No! Ja has escaped and now he's on top!
Ja trying to control the position from guard on top but Emerson is wriggling around, looking for whatever he can.
Emerson is working an open guard here, looking to improve his position. No doubt that will leave him open to counters but at least he's being more offensive.

Ja is pushing down on Emerson's leg trying to pass to half guard. Emerson is fighting to maintain full guard but Ja has managed to sneak the leg through.

A big thud reverberates around the arena there as Ja accidentally thumps the mat. Hopefully he's not broken his hand.
Ja must be cautious of submissions here, given that his opponent has the superior Jiu Jitsu.

A lull in the action here being met with boos from the crowd.
Emerson keeping moving, preventing Ja from controlling successfully.
Ja is a painfully thin specimen of a man. You do wonder whether a good body kick would snap him clean in two.
Ja slows down the pace of the fight for a moment. He'll need to remain active if he doesn't want to see the fight stood back up.

Emerson looking for submissions from the bottom but instead Ja passes into half guard.

Ja not throwing his punches with enough precision this time.
Emerson might be looking to lock onto one of his opponent's long limbs for a submission, whilst we're on the ground.

Emerson is looking to regain full guard. Not this time though.
Ja seems very keen to just sit and control from half guard but Emerson does not like that idea so much and is remaining active off his back.
Emerson moves his hips nicely and gets into full guard.
Ja tries to stand but Emerson is controlling from the bottom.
Emerson can't do much from the bottom at the moment, as Ja controls the pace.
The referee is pacing around the two fighters - he looks like he's thinking about a standup.

Ja gets to his feet and steps away from his opponent.
Emerson is looking to clinch.

Ja misses with a jab and misses with a cross straight after too.

Emerson shoots in for a takedown and gets it. Oh and he's advanced to full mount straight away.
Ja is wriggling around trying to escape.

Emerson is going oldschool here, as he tries to force Ja to tap using a forearm choke. This isn't 1993 though, so Ja shrugs it off.
Ja is working to get back to half guard.
Emerson wants to control the pace but Ja is squirming around nicely.
Ja regains half guard.
Ja works his way to full guard. Good work.

The fighters' corners scream their final instructions, as the referee calls time. Here we go, back to the action!


Ja moves into range and connects with a jab.
Ja throws a combination but comes up with nothing but fresh air.
Ja throws a series of punches but Emerson moves out of range.
Emerson is looking to take this fight into the clinch.
Ja misses with a looping right.
Ja throws a combination but it was largely blocked by Emerson.
Ja uses good footwork to get in and out and land a nice right hand before Emerson has time to react.
Emerson shoots in and drives through. Ja sprawls well.

Ja gets caught flat footed, as Emerson shoots in with a quick takedown into guard.

Ja is working an open guard here, looking to improve his position. No doubt that will leave him open to counters but at least he's being more offensive.

Emerson is trying to work a guillotine from the top, or something like that? Don't know how he thinks he's going to get a finish from there.
Ja wants to stand up but Emerson is controlling him.
Emerson passes Ja's right leg, so he's now in half guard.
Emerson is trying to control the action in half guard but Ja is working away on the bottom, looking perhaps to get back to full guard.

The crowd are showing their displeasure at the lack of action as loud boos ring out around the arena.
Ja wants to get back to his feet.

Emerson is working for a submission of some sort.
Both fighters are absolutely exhausted here.
Ja moves into full guard.
Ja wants to stand and escape but Emerson is having none of it.
Emerson tries to free his leg and advance position but Ja is retaining full guard.
Ja lands a beautiful switch and he's in full mount! That could spell trouble for Emerson!

Ja takes a little breather and maintains the position. The referee will be looking for him to stay active from such a dominant position though.
Ja tries to control but Emerson wriggling away.
Ja unloads with some shots from mount but Emerson bucks and avoids them well.

Well. There's a bit of a lull in the action here and the crowd are starting to get restless.
Emerson is wriggling around trying to escape.
Ja cracks Emerson with a nasty head shot there - the crowd let out an audible gasp there, as the noise reverberated around the arena.
Emerson tries to hold on but Ja pushes him away.
Emerson tries to get back to half guard but can't.
Ja controlling the position easily from mount.
Emerson tries to reverse the position but Ja maintains control.
Ja trying to control but Emerson is having none of it.
Emerson working to try and regain half guard.

Pablo Ja showed his class in that round. I'd imagine he'll take it on all the scorecards.

Ja tries to bum rush Emerson with a series of wild strikes but Emerson uses good footwork to avoid the assault.
Pablo Ja is looking to throw some combinations by the looks of things.
Ja throws the left hand but Emerson avoids the punch easily.
Emerson fails with an attempt to clinch.

Emerson ducks under an overhand right and circles away with a smile on his face.

Both fighters are breathing heavily.
Ja throws a hard body shot but it just misses.
Ja throws a couple of head shots and lands with the final one - a decent hook, which struck Emerson on the side of the head.
Ja keeps the fight standing with a nice sprawl.
Ja looks to land a combination. Emerson sees it coming but can only parry a couple of the shots.
Emerson tries to clinch but Ja is having none of it.
Ja misses with a body shot. Nice footwork from Emerson.

Emerson moves in looking to clinch but Ja pushes him off.
Ja tries to bum rush Emerson with a series of wild strikes but Emerson uses good footwork to avoid the assault.
Ja throws out a token jab with nothing on it.

The fight moves into the clinch position.
Emerson tries to score a body lock takedown but Ja shows good agility there to stay on his feet.

A frustrated look appears on Ja's face as he tries to break the clinch.
