Coming up we have a light heavyweight MMA rules bout between Pieter Aart (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Rousimar Pellegrino (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Aart comes to the cage accompanied by Eye of the Tiger. Pellegrino has chosen Sepultura - Roots Bloody Roots as his entrance music. Man, I cannot wait for this one!

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the light heavyweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.

And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 2 - 1 - 0, fighting out of Rio de Janeiro, Rousimar Pellegrino!
The judges for this bout are Matheus Silva, Edson Gomes and Luis Engracia.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Aart scores with a spinning back kick!

Aart darts in and lands a nice takedown into half guard.
Aart tries to stand and escape but Pellegrino is controlling the position.
Aart controlling the action here.

Aart decides to stand up.
Pellegrino misses with a takedown attempt

and Aart counters with a takedown into full mount! That could mean trouble for Pellegrino!

Pellegrino tries to control the position but Aart now has his back.

Aart knows he needs to get back to his feet asap. He's simply no match for Pellegrino on the ground.
Aart just keeping the dominant position. He can't wait too long though, otherwise the referee will stand them back up.

Aart remains in side control and seems content to stay there. It's a versatile position from which he can work both strikes and submissions, whilst maintaining that control, so maybe he'll sit here for a while.
Pellegrino tries to improve position but can't.

Pellegrino tries to work a leg under to get back to half guard but Aart wriggles his own leg back out and remains in side control.

Aart will need to keep those long limbs tucked in whilst he's on the ground, to prevent any submissions.
Aart content to control rather than advance.
The fighters are battling for position here. Pellegrino manages to regain full guard. Nice work.

Pellegrino is looking for a triangle but Aart pushes his legs off easily.
The crowd applaud the fighters efforts here as the round comes to an end.

Pellegrino escapes his hips to the side and looks to be working for an armbar. Aart gives him a little smile and shakes his head. No chance.

Aart misses with a takedown

and Pellegrino counters with a single leg into guard. Aart didn't expect that.

Aart tries to buck Pellegrino off but Pellegrino is having none of it.
Aart gives up the full mount - oops, sloppy defensive grappling there!
Pellegrino wants to take Aart's back here but Aart is holding on to an arm, himself looking to escape.
Pellegrino can't quite control the action as he would like just now, as Aart is looking to escape.

Pellegrino wants to control the pace but Aart is squirming around nicely.

Aart is putting a lot of effort into getting back to his feet here.

Aart has no desire to be mounted, so is trying to control. Pellegrino is working away from the top position though.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.

Aart kicks Pellegrino off and gets back to his feet.

Aart lands with a nice low kick. That'll leave a bruise.
Pellegrino takes a jab on the nose. He smiles like he loves it and keeps coming.

Aart gets the takedown into side control.
You can see the frustration on Pellegrino's face, being in this tough position on the bottom.
Pellegrino sneaks a leg under to get back to half guard.
Pellegrino tries to roll over but Aart keeps him under control.
Pellegrino works his way to full guard. Good work.

Pellegrino is looking for a triangle but Aart pushes his legs off easily.

Aart tries to get to his feet but he's trapped momentarily.

Aart stands up.
Aart fakes with a right hand and throws a good leg kick, right into the thigh. That had to hurt Pellegrino.

and Aart counters with a nice single leg takedown and he's in Pellegrino's guard now.
Wooooo! Give it up for these two warriors! They are putting on a show!
The crowd applaud the fighters efforts here as the round comes to an end.

Aart stands up and waves to Pellegrino to follow him.
Aart gets his takedown attempt stuffed easily

and Pellegrino counters with a nice double leg into side control. Aart won't be happy with that.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

That was a close second round but I would say that Pieter Aart will probably get the nod.
That's time! Aart's corner gives him a slap on the ass as he gets ready to fight. The crowd applaud as we get ready to start the final round!



Aart changes levels and drives through with a really nice takedown into side control. Pellegrino looks really pissed at himself for not defending that better.
Aart happy to just control the position for now.
Pellegrino trying his best to control but Aart has mounted him.
Aart tries to stand up but he's trapped just for the moment.
Aart looking to control but Pellegrino is working nicely, looking to advance position himself.
Pellegrino is looking to improve his position but Aart isn't that keen on the idea.

Pellegrino tries to control Aart's body but Aart pushes him off. Pellegrino squirms to his side and now Aart has his back!

Well. There's a bit of a lull in the action here and the crowd are starting to get restless.
Pellegrino is trying to break free.

Pellegrino turns into Aart and is now in his guard.

Aart is looking for a triangle but Pellegrino pushes his legs off easily.
Pellegrino is taking a break and basically stalling. The referee will not allow him to do that for long.
Pellegrino pressing down on his opponent's thigh, looking to pass guard. Aart is keeping the position for now.
Rousimar Pellegrino has stepped it up - he knows he needs a finish here!

The referee decides to stand the fighters back up.

Aart feints and then dives in with a takedown. That was a long way out but the feint bought him enough time to close the distance and complete the takedown. Now we'll play guard for a bit and see who can get the better of that position.
Pellegrino is looking to sweep but instead, Aart has passed into half guard.
Aart is just sitting in half guard, waiting for something to happen.
Aart seems to have a rather negative gameplan on the ground. He seems keen to just score the takedown and hold down Pellegrino for as long as he can get away with.

Pellegrino gets taken down but at least he's managed to land in guard.

Well Aart has outscored his opponent in every aspect of the fight today. Only a scarily incompetent judge or two will keep him from a well deserved win... Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
