PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a featherweight MMA rules bout between Bruce Phillips (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Jose Aldo (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Phillips comes to the cage accompanied by "Shoot to Thrill" by AC/DC. These two fighters really are very evenly matched on the feet - it will be fascinating to see who can assert themselves in that aspect of the fight.

The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Phillips closes the distance and clinches up with Aldo, looking for a takedown. Phillips pushes Aldo against the cage but Aldo circles to the side and manages to break the clinch.
Aldo throws a looping overhand right but Phillips ducks down to avoid it.
Aldo smiles there as he lands a nice right hand right on the button.
A right-left combo lands from Aldo.

It looks like Bruce Phillips has been cut.
Aldo tries to land with a swinging hook to the body but Phillips was well out of range. Poor timing from Aldo.
Nice jab there from Aldo.
Aldo throws a body punch but Phillips moves out of range.
Aldo throws a right hand that Phillips ducks under and follows up with a left that Phillips also avoids with ease.
Phillips closes this distance looking for a takedown but Aldo circles away.
Jose Aldo seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.

Phillips has Aldo up against the cage in a clinch.

Phillips breaks from the clinch.
Horrible takedown by Phillips or perhaps it was just good defense by Aldo which made him look bad.

Aldo swings for the body but Phillips moves out of range.
Aldo throws the left hand but Phillips avoids the punch easily.

Aldo throws an uppercut from half a mile away. Phillips sees it coming and avoids it easily.
Phillips fakes high and shoots in for a takedown but Aldo avoids it really well and circles away.

The crowd are getting on the fighters' backs, as the pace has dropped off in the last minute or so.
Aldo fails to land with a series of punches.
Aldo scores with a nice looking left hook and follows it up with an uppercut!
Phillips walks into a jab.
Aldo misses with a jab and misses with a cross straight after too.

Phillips looks for a takedown. He's got it. We're now in half guard.
Aldo is not content to let Phillips control the position.

Phillips is looking for an arm triangle, whilst trying to pass to side control. Aldo doesn't seem that keen to cooperate though. No luck this time Phillips.

Aldo really doesn't want to stay on the ground with Phillips. If he can't get it back to his feet, it's only a matter of time before he'll be tapping out.

Phillips is keen to just control but Aldo is a slippery customer.
