PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a middleweight MMA rules bout between Oskari Jokinen (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Steve McRae (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Chooooooooon! I think Jokinen might be my favorite fighter, now he's come out to Prodigy - Firestarter. McRae has chosen Indestructible as his entrance music. Over to our ring announcer for the fighter introductions!

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the middleweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 14 - 11 - 0, fighting out of Montreal, Oskari Jokinen!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 5 - 7 - 0, fighting out of Montreal, Steve McRae!
The judges for this bout are Dillan Fox, Alec Ball and Ian Loll.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Jokinen does a little shimmy and throws a leg kick. The leg kick missed by a considerable margin though, making him look a little bit silly for doing the shimmy.
McRae stooping low to avoid any incoming strikes and then lunges in with an uppercut come cross that lands flush.
Jokinen thows a body shot but no joy.

Jokinen drives through and clinches with McRae against the cage.
Jokinen is working hard here but doesn't seem to be able to control effectively, up against the cage.

Jokinen tries to land a knee to the head but misses.
McRae tries a body shot but Jokinen blocks it.
McRae works for underhooks and lands a body shot in the process.
Jokinen unloads a knee to the mid-section. McRae lets out a prehistoric sounding urrrrgh.
Jokinen putting his Muay Thai to good use. He has McRae in a tight clinch and is doing some damage with knees to the body.
McRae throws a hook to the body. More of an arm punch but it's all scoring with the judges.

Jokinen manages to get underhooks and slows down the pace for a moment.
McRae lands a shoulder strike that jolts his opponent's head backwards.
McRae makes some space for himself and lands an uppercut.

McRae is working on a single leg takedown against the cage. Jokinen can't fight it off and eventually McRae manages to take the fight to the floor. Jokinen looks annoyed but at least he's managed to land in guard.
We've seen a great period of action over the last minute or so - credit to both fighters for going all out!

The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.

Neither fighter is doing enough for the referee's liking and he's decided to stand them back up.

McRae must be cautious of submissions here, given that his opponent has the superior Jiu Jitsu.

Jokinen has his head slapped from side to side by a 3 punch combination. That must have hurt him.


It looks like Oskari Jokinen has been cut.

McRae feints and then dives in with a takedown. That was a long way out but the feint bought him enough time to close the distance and complete the takedown. Now we'll play guard for a bit and see who can get the better of that position.

Jokinen is working for an escape here. He's hooked one of McRae's legs and he's managed to sneak out and take McRae's back!

Jokinen is looking to finish the fight by rear naked choke. McRae knows exactly what he's got planned though, so he's defending well. Maybe a few strikes would soften McRae for a finish.
McRae is in a world of trouble here. He's outmatched on the ground here and he'd better get Jokinen off his back sharpish unless he wants to be submitted.

Steve McRae comfortably won the final round on my scorecard.
Well McRae has outworked and out performed his opponent in all aspects of the game today. He was simply too good and the decision should be no more than a formality. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
