PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a super heavyweight MMA rules bout between Gregory Black (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and James Alan (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Alan has chosen Fucking Hostile by Pantera as his entrance music, which hasn't gone down very well with the crowd. Both fighters look fresh as a daisy as they make their way towards the cage.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 5 rounds, for the super heavyweight championship of the world!
Introducing the champion to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 8 - 3 - 0, fighting out of Rio de Janeiro, Gregory Black!
And introducing the challenger to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 10 - 4 - 0, fighting out of Rio de Janeiro, James Alan!
The judges for this bout are Alexandre Firmino, Seu Braga and Leandro Rodrigues.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Black fails with a takedown attempt.
Alan looks for a takedown here. Will he get it? Black is fending him off so far but Alan persists. Nope, Black circles away and we're back to standing.
Alan misses with the combination.
Black checks a leg kick.
Alan misses with a few strikes there.
Black shoots and misses

so Alan counters with a double leg into guard. Good agility.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
Alan trying to control but Black is working from the bottom.
Black utilising some decent striking defenses from the guard, preventing the ground and pound.

Alan is trying to work a guillotine from the top, or something like that? Don't know how he thinks he's going to get a finish from there.
Black can't keep his opponent in guard - Alan advances to half guard, no doubt looking to mount.

That's one minute gone in the round.
Alan is looking to advance position but Black won't allow it.
Alan thows a wild elbow that connects with the canvas.
Alan stops Black from getting back to his feet.
Alan scoring with strikes to the body and head.

Alan is working for submissions here but there's nothing on.
Black knows he needs to get back to his feet asap. He's simply no match for Alan on the ground.
Alan is looking to advance position but Black won't allow it.

Alan is sneakily working for an arm triangle but Black sees it coming and defends easily.

That's two minutes gone in the round.
Alan wants to free his trapped foot but Black is holding on for dear life with his legs.

Alan is looking for a kimura but he's never going to get it from there.
Alan seems very keen to just sit and control from half guard but Black does not like that idea so much and is remaining active off his back.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.

Alan is looking for a kimura but Black is holding onto that half guard position, so it's hard for Alan to get the leverage.

Alan prevents Black from standing back up.

Alan is looking for a kimura here.
Black is trying to stand up here but Alan is controlling him well.

Alan looking for a kimura but he'll have to free his other leg if he wants to finish that. Perhaps he's just using it as a distraction technique.
Black might be looking to lock onto one of his opponent's long limbs for a submission, whilst we're on the ground.
Alan not landing any meaningful shots this time.

Neither fighter has done anything of merit for a good minute or two here and the crowd are not happy about it.

Alan wants to work for an arm triangle but Black is really keeping half guard well and defending the submission attempt.

The referee decides to stand the fighters back up.
A left and a right from Alan both land. Nice combination.
Alan fails to land with a series of punches.
Black shoots in but doesn't get the takedown
and Alan counters with a left and a right that stings Black.
That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Gregory Black. That's going to take a lot out of him.
Alan misses with a series of wild punches.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

James Alan dominated that round.
OK. That's time! The bell goes and we're back to the action.


Black showing good head movement there, avoiding the strikes from Alan.
Alan throws a nice looking combination but Black bobs and weaves to avoid any damage.
Black has a takedown stuffed.
Alan misses with a jab and misses with a cross straight after too.
Gregory Black is looking to throw some combinations by the looks of things.

and Alan decides to take the opportunity to score a takedown. He's landed in Black's guard.
Black has momentary wrist control but Alan slips an elbow through the middle.
Alan throwing strikes from guard but Black blocks nicely.
Alan trying to land body shots but he keeps hitting the mat.

Alan throws and elbow that misses. Black uses the momentum to reverse the position. He's now in Alan's guard. Nice move by Black!

Black has to be careful here, sitting in the guard of a superior BJJ player.

Alan had isolated an arm as going for a kimura. Black defends it easily.
Alan manages to land a sweep and now he's in mount on top!
Black blocking the ground and pound.

Black's corner are shouting for him to stand up but that's bad cornering - how is he meant to stand up when he's mounted? He should be looking to improve his position on the ground before trying to stand back up.
Alan thuds his fist into the canvas! Oooouch!
Alan looking to ground and pound his opponent to a finish here.

Alan goes for an armbar but he's fallen flat on his backside there and now Black is on top in guard.

Black is posturing up here but Alan has hold of an arm and he's gone for an armbar! Black tries to roll out but it's too tight and Black has to tap! Slick submission there by Alan!

Ladies and gentlemen, after 2:51 of round 2, we have a winner by way of Submission (Armbar). James Alan!
