PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a bantamweight MMA rules bout between Bud Brockett (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Matt Buckner (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). I can't wait for this one - let's get the fighter introductions out of the way and get this one started!

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the bantamweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 7 - 7 - 0, fighting out of London, Bud Brockett!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 3 - 0 - 0, fighting out of London, Matt Buckner!
The judges for this bout are Andrew Berry, Sam Margolis and James Ackerman.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Buckner swings and misses with a hook to the body.
A telegraphed takedown attempt from Brockett is defended easily by Buckner.

Brockett bobs and weaves into range and then changes levels and scores with a nice takedown into side control.
Brockett tries to score with some ground and pound. Buckner controls his posture well this time though and the shots don't do any damage.
Buckner is trying to get back to his feet.
Brockett working the ground and pound but he's contacting the mat, not the fighter.
Brockett misses with a strike but at least he's keeping busy, looking to cause some damage - that will still help him when it comes to the judges scorecards.
Brockett works a knee to the body and follows up with a nice elbow to the head.

Brockett working hard here to secure a kimura but he's not really in the right position for it.
Buckner can't do much from the bottom here.
Brockett throws a strike aimed at the side of Buckner's head but Buckner avoids it well.

Buckner tries to work a leg under to get back to half guard but Brockett wriggles his own leg back out and remains in side control.
Brockett misses with a strike but at least he's keeping busy, looking to cause some damage - that will still help him when it comes to the judges scorecards.
Brockett looking to punish the body of his opponent here but Buckner is avoiding damage well.
Buckner struggling a bit here.
Buckner is moving his hips around well on the bottom and has managed to get back to half guard.
Buckner keeping his head moving to avoid the ground and pound.

Neither fighter is doing enough for the referee's liking and he's decided to stand them back up.

Brockett scores with a nice takedown into half guard. Let's see what he's got on the ground.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
Buckner moves his hips nicely and gets into full guard.
Buckner avoiding any damage from the ground and pound.
Buckner is working an open guard here, looking to improve his position. No doubt that will leave him open to counters but at least he's being more offensive.
Buckner utilising some decent striking defenses from the guard, preventing the ground and pound.

Brockett throwing strikes from guard but Buckner blocks nicely.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
Brockett is breathing heavily.
Buckner is working from a closed guard but he's struggling to control his opponent.
Brockett missing there with some ground and pound from the guard.
Brockett in full guard, throwing the ground and pound. No damage this time.

Well, the referee has seen enough. Neither fighter is active enough on the ground so he's stood them back up.
Brockett fails with a takedown attempt.
Buckner misses with a jab and misses with a cross straight after too.
Buckner digs a good body shot into Brockett's ribs.

That's three minutes gone in the round.
Nice defenses there by Brockett.
Buckner throws a jab when Brockett was well out of range.
Matt Buckner seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.
Brockett steps to the side to avoid the strikes from Buckner.
A big left from Buckner misses.
Buckner lands with a good body shot.
Brockett drops his hands momentarily and Buckner takes advantage with a crisp shot to the head.
A cross from Buckner lands.
Brockett moves away from the strike by Buckner.
A shot to the liver by Buckner. Beautiful body shot.
Brockett drops his hands momentarily and Buckner takes advantage with a crisp shot to the head.
Buckner scores with a nice looking left hook and follows it up with an uppercut!

That's four minutes gone in the round.
Fantastic stuff here - a very entertaining period of action, which has drawn cheers from the crowd.
Buckner smiles there as he lands a nice right hand right on the button.
Buckner throws a good cross that connects.
A punch combination from Buckner misses.
Brockett takes a shot to the eye socket. That's gotta hurt.


Brockett is rocked!
BOOM! Buckner lands a beautiful left hook that drops Brockett. Brockett tries to recover but Buckner is having none of it, landing more punishing shots from mount. One final crushing shot and Brockett lies motionless on the canvas. The fight is over!

Ladies and gentlemen, after 4:31 of round 1, we have a winner by way of TKO (Strikes). Matt Buckner!
