The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Carthew shoots in but no luck this time.
A nice inside leg kick there by Johnson. That's going to slow Carthew down.
Carthew looks gassed!

Johnson moves into range and clinches up with Carthew.

Johnson has clasped his hands together around Carthew's back... aaand, he's got a takedown into side control. Nicely done.
Carthew wants to get back to his feet but Johnson drags him back down.
Johnson creates some space and throws a big elbow, but Carthew sees it coming and moves his head just enough to avoid the strike.
Carthew tries to get back to half guard but can't.
Johnson throws an elbow but Carthew slips to the side and avoids it well.

The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
Johnson tries to score with some ground and pound. Carthew controls his posture well this time though and the shots don't do any damage.

The referee has ruled that neither fighter is active enough on the ground and has stood them back up.
Johnson throws a series of punches but Carthew avoids them all with ease.

Carthew closes the distance and presses his opponent up against the cage.

Well, the referee has seen enough. Neither fighter is active enough on the ground so he's stood them back up.

Carthew is looking for a takedown up against the cage. Johnson gets underhooks though and prevents the takedown attempt.

Carthew wants to push off and get back to the center of the mat but Johnson has him pressed against the cage.

Johnson gets control of Carthew's arms and successfully pulls guard. Johnson will no doubt be looking for submissions off his back.

Carthew is trying to work for a single leg takedown but Johnson pulls him back up using the underhooks.

Johnson is trying to escape back to his feet but Carthew uses the scramble to pass into side control.

Johnson is flailing around, obviously not happy about being mounted. Carthew locks hold of one of his arms and spins for an armbar. He's got it! Johnson is forced to tap!
