Coming up we have a lightweight MMA rules bout between Frankie Edgar (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Robbie McCarthy (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). We have two fighters making their debuts here, so let's see who comes out of this one with their first professional victory.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the lightweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Amsterdam, Frankie Edgar!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Amsterdam, Robbie McCarthy!
The judges for this bout are Paulsen Ambrosius, Albert Achterberg and Paul Aken.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
McCarthy throws a head kick that misses.
Edgar ducks under a wild hook from McCarthy.
McCarthy tries to clinch up but Edgar circles away and keeps his distance.
Robbie McCarthy seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.
McCarthy darts in and out, connecting with a jab.
Edgar takes a shot to the nose. Hopefully that hasn't broken it.
McCarthy tries a switch kick but it misses it's target.
The crowd cheers as McCarthy lands an impressive looking overhand right. Edgar doesn't seem phased though.

Edgar closes the distance and clinches up, looking for a takedown. He shifts his weight and gets a nice trip into half guard.
Edgar looks over to his corner - he wants some instructions but his corner are not responding.
Edgar is looking to advance position but McCarthy won't allow it.
Still in half guard, Edgar seems content to control.

The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.

The referee decides to stand the fighters back up, due to lack of activity on the part of Frankie Edgar.

Edgar decides to change it up a bit and drives through with a nice takedown into half guard.
McCarthy wants to get back to his feet.
McCarthy tries to push off, looking to stand up, but Edgar manages to move to mount!

McCarthy can't escape the position.

McCarthy's corner are shouting for him to stand up but that's bad cornering - how is he meant to stand up when he's mounted? He should be looking to improve his position on the ground before trying to stand back up.
McCarthy is looking to get to half guard.

The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
McCarthy wants to try and get back to his feet.
Edgar takes a little breather and maintains the position. The referee will be looking for him to stay active from such a dominant position though.
Edgar avoids the attempt from McCarthy to control.

There's not a lot going on here and the crowd are letting the fighters know they're not willing to tolerate a lack of action.
McCarthy wants to get back to his feet.

McCarthy is desperately trying to improve his position but Edgar has a good base and remains in mount.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

The fighters get back to their feet, the hooter sounds and we're back to the action!

McCarthy tries to close the distance and clinch but Edgar swats him to one side with an open hand palm strike and circles away.

and Edgar counters with a nice single leg takedown and he's in McCarthy's guard now.

Edgar bobs and weaves into range and then changes levels and scores with a nice takedown into side control.

Both fighters are absolutely exhausted here.

McCarthy tries to wriggle free to get back to his feet but he's given up his back! Oops.
McCarthy is very frustrated here, being controlled quite effectively by Edgar.
Edgar has controlled the position for a good 20 seconds, which will no doubt be starting to frustrate his opponent.

The crowd are starting to boo a lack of action.
McCarthy is trying to get back to his feet but Edgar has full control of the position and if anything, McCarthy has just worked his way into a worse spot.

OK. That's time! The bell goes and we're back to the action. And we move into the final round!

McCarthy looks to score with a combo but nothing lands.
Edgar moves forwards but McCarthy connects with a nice, crisp jab.
A decent looking cross lands there for McCarthy.
McCarthy is looking to clinch but Edgar is avoiding it.
A punch lands to the side of Edgar 's head but he takes it in his stride.

We've seen a great period of action over the last minute or so - credit to both fighters for going all out!
Edgar wants to pass to mount but McCarthy is defending the position.

and Edgar counters with a nice double leg into side control. McCarthy won't be happy with that.

Edgar takes a shot to the body in his stride.
McCarthy uses good footwork to get in and out and land a nice right hand before Edgar has time to react.
McCarthy is using his reach advantage to land shots from outside his opponent's range.

The crowd are loving this. Great action here.

McCarthy slips in close and lands a nice hook before moving back out of range.

Robbie McCarthy has stepped it up - he knows he needs a finish here!
Edgar takes an uppercut right on the jaw but it doesn't phase him.
A punch lands to the side of Edgar 's head but he takes it in his stride.
McCarthy might want to mix his strikes up a bit more. He's just going for head shots at the moment and that can become a bit predictable.
McCarthy tries to close the distance and clinch but Edgar swats him to one side with an open hand palm strike and circles away.

As the round comes to an end the crowd are showing their appreciation for a great round of action.
Edgar tries to move into range but McCarthy moves to the side and lands with a nice right hand.

Frankie Edgar is fighting for a decision here - he's started to take the cautious approach.

Robbie McCarthy comfortably won the final round on my scorecard.
I think Edgar has won this one but let's see what the judges have to say. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
