Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the light heavyweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 7 - 5 - 0, fighting out of Las Vegas, Bullwinkle McPee!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 8 - 8 - 0, fighting out of Las Vegas, Matthew Newell!
The judges for this bout are Tiny Johnson, Frank Dennis and Cecil Peabody.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
McPee misses with an uppercut. Newell saw that one coming.
Newell misses with a double jab.
Newell closes the distance and takes a jab right on the nose as he does so.
Newell ducks under a wild hook from McPee.
McPee throws an uppercut from half a mile away. Newell sees it coming and avoids it easily.
McPee throws out a token jab with nothing on it.
McPee showing good head movement there, avoiding the strikes from Newell.
McPee throws a lazy right hand but Newell sees it coming a mile off and sidesteps it easily.
Newell moves out of range of the strikes.
McPee throws a series of punches but Newell avoids them all with ease.

Newell shoots in looking for a single leg takedown. McPee is trying to defend but Newell finishes it well and ends up in half guard. Let's see if he can advance position further.

Newell tries to stand and escape but McPee is controlling the position.

McPee looks like he's trying to stand up.

Newell is trying to control. McPee wants to improve his position but can't escape this time.
McPee won't allow Newell to pass to mount.
Newell is looking to take a break and control but McPee is keeping him honest, looking to work from the bottom.

The crowd are getting on the fighters' backs, as the pace has dropped off in the last minute or so.

Well, the referee has seen enough. Neither fighter is active enough on the ground so he's stood them back up.

McPee is squirming around, avoiding Newell's attempts to control the action.

Newell tucks in and makes sure he doesn't lose the dominant position.
McPee is breathing heavily.

A lull in the action here being met with boos from the crowd.
McPee wants to use the cage to get back to his feet here.

The crowd thankful this round is nearly over.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

The fighters' corners scream their final instructions, as the referee calls time. Here we go, back to the action!


The fighters circle momentarily. McPee darts into range and connects with a nice straight punch.
Bullwinkle McPee seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.
A looping hook to the body misses from McPee. Newell does a little dance to reset his feet.
McPee scores with a one two! Newell had his feet all tangled up there and couldn't avoid the strikes.

Newell throws a combination but comes up with nothing but fresh air.
McPee throws a series of strikes that have Newell backpedaling.
McPee takes a swing at Newell's ribcage but misses.
McPee tries to land with a swinging hook to the body but Newell was well out of range. Poor timing from McPee.
Newell scores with a nice one two combo and darts back out of range to avoid anything coming in the opposite direction.
McPee misses the jab.
Both fighters are absolutely exhausted here.

McPee misses with a straight left.
McPee takes a punch to the jaw and another one to the bread basket.

Newell connects with a leg kick. He turned his hip over nicely there.
McPee throws a combination that misses
and Newell counters with a thumping low kick.
McPee stumbles momentarily as he takes a strong leg kick from Newell.
Newell swings away but doesn't land with a series of punches.

Newell bobs and weaves into range and then changes levels and scores with a nice takedown into side control.

Newell's corner are shouting for him to control the position and he seems happy to oblige.

The fans in attendance giving it up for the two fighters, who have really let it all hang out in the last minute or so!

The ref stands the fighters back up, due to lack of action by Matthew Newell.
Newell throws a nice looking combination but McPee bobs and weaves to avoid any damage.

Newell has taken the fight to the clinch.
The two fighters are working to gain dominance in the clinch.
With the fighters up against the cage, Newell throws an elbow but misses.
Newell looks to throw an elbow but misses.
McPee prevents the takedown attempt.
McPee wants to push off and get back to the center of the mat but Newell has him pressed against the cage.

Newell pushes off an throws an elbow but McPee leans to the side and avoids it. We're back to clinching against the cage.
Newell drops down looking for an ankle pick but McPee pulls his leg out and moves away.
Newell lands a jab followed by a nice looking cross.

and Newell counters with a slapping leg kick.

Newell feints and as McPee raises his hands in defense, Newell changes levels and drives through with a takedown into guard.
Newell not doing a lot at the moment. He'll have to show some more aggression or the fight will get stood up.
McPee keeping moving, preventing Newell from controlling successfully.

Newell is just sitting in guard, looking to avoid any submissions.

Newell stops McPee from standing up.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
The crowd applaud the fighters efforts here as the round comes to an end.
Newell wants to control from the top but McPee keeps moving.

Matthew Newell showed his class in that round. I'd imagine he'll take it on all the scorecards.

The crowd are hurling abuse towards the fighters... You can hardly blame them though because there isn't a lot going on in the fight.
A solid leg kick lands there for Newell.
Newell misses with the combination.
McPee throws a left and a right that both miss
and Newell counters with a stiff right hand.
McPee misses with a body shot.
Bullwinkle McPee is looking to keep the fight on the feet at all costs.
Newell misses with a few strikes there.
Newell throws a couple of head shots and lands with the final one - a decent hook, which struck McPee on the side of the head.

Newell closes the distance and pushes McPee back into the cage.

Newell is looking to control McPee's arms but McPee gets an underhook and turns him. Now Newell has his back to the cage.

Newell has a body lock and is looking for a takedown. McPee is bouncing around trying to prevent the takedown and somehow he has indeed managed to stay on his feet.

Well. There's a bit of a lull in the action here and the crowd are starting to get restless.
Newell takes a body punch that cleary hurt but he's trying not to show any weakness.
Matthew Newell is fighting for a decision here - he's started to take the cautious approach.
Newell throws a combination but it was largely blocked by McPee.
Newell lands a two punch combo.
McPee throws the left hand but Newell avoids the punch easily.
McPee throws a shot from downtown. Newell moves away and avoids it.
McPee throws out a token jab with nothing on it.
Newell lands a nice hook to McPee's body. McPee takes it in his stride and looks to land his own strikes.
Matthew Newell seems to be getting the better of the standup.
Newell will need to tighten up his combinations if he doesn't want to gas himself out, swinging at thin air.
Newell moves into range and throws a combination. A nice jab followed by a hook to the body.
