PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a welterweight MMA rules bout between Dimitri Makhnov (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Scott Kent (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Rumors backstage are that the fighters have been paid to keep it standing but we know that would never happen in MMA!

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the welterweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 1 - 0 - 0, fighting out of St Petersburg, Dimitri Makhnov!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 1 - 1 - 0, fighting out of St Petersburg, Scott Kent!
The judges for this bout are Konstantin Menshow, Dmitry Maklakov and Viktor Lagutenko.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!

Makhnov feints and as Kent raises his hands in defense, Makhnov changes levels and drives through with a takedown into guard.
Kent is a painfully thin specimen of a man. You do wonder whether a good body kick would snap him clean in two.

Kent escapes his hips to the side and looks to be working for an armbar. Makhnov gives him a little smile and shakes his head. No chance.
Makhnov might be looking to lock onto one of his opponent's long limbs for a submission, whilst we're on the ground.
Kent is doing well to control the posture of his opponent and prevent any damage.

Kent wants to sweep here but Makhnov controlling him for the moment.
Makhnov is just sitting in guard, looking to avoid any submissions.
Kent is adopting a defensive guard.
Makhnov pressing down on his opponent's thigh, looking to pass guard. Kent is keeping the position for now.

Makhnov trying to control but Kent is working from the bottom.
Kent is working an open guard here, looking to improve his position. No doubt that will leave him open to counters but at least he's being more offensive.

It looks like we're going to have a standup here. Neither fighter is doing enough on the ground.
Makhnov displays good takedown defense there as he swats away a double leg from Kent.

Kent scores a trip takedown into side control. Nice.
Makhnov gets one leg under and gets the fight to half guard.
Makhnov is not content to let Kent control the position.
Kent with the ground and pound but Makhnov uses the opportunity to regain guard.

Makhnov preventing the ground and pound from doing any damage.
Makhnov looking to hit a scissor sweep but Kent is one step ahead there.
Kent tries to free his leg and advance position but Makhnov is retaining full guard.
Makhnov wants to stand and escape but Kent is having none of it.
Makhnov is working the butterfly guard. He manages to land a nice scissor sweep and is now in half guard on the top. Nice move.

That's three minutes gone in the round.
Makhnov trying to control the action but Kent is working from the bottom.
We get told so often about how wrestlers don't like to be on their backs. Let's see if Kent can do anything to dispel that myth.
Makhnov is going to have to think about doing something other than just controlling because Kent is managing to avoid having the position dictated to him.

Makhnov is trying a forearm choke… I don't think that's going to do much at this level of the game.
Kent is trying is best to control the position here.
Makhnov wants to lay and pray for a moment but Kent keeps working.
Makhnov trying to pass the guard but Kent defending well.

My god... these two guys really need to pick up the pace or everyone will leave to go get a beer.
Kent trying to control here.

The referee decides to stand the fighters back up.

Makhnov closes the distance and clinches up, looking for a takedown. He shifts his weight and gets a nice trip into half guard.
Makhnov is breathing heavily.
Makhnov moves nicely into side control.
Kent can't do much from the bottom here.
Kent tries to improve position but can't.

Makhnov tries for an arm triangle. That looks pretty tight to me. Is this one over!?! Possibly, maybe, no Makhnov has let go of the choke. Obviously it wasn't as tight as we thought!
Kent parries the strikes from Makhnov easily there. Makhnov is wary of posturing up too much because it might enable Kent to escape.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Dimitri Makhnov dominated that round.
That's time! Makhnov's corner gives him a slap on the ass as he gets ready to fight.


Kent circles away from the clinch attempt.

Makhnov changes levels and drives through with a really nice takedown into side control. Kent looks really pissed at himself for not defending that better.
Kent really doesn't want to stay on the ground with Makhnov. If he can't get it back to his feet, it's only a matter of time before he'll be tapping out.

Makhnov with the ground and pound but Kent regains half guard under the barage of strikes.
Kent wants to get back to full guard.
Makhnov looking to pass the half guard. Not this time.
Makhnov stops Kent from getting back to his feet.
Kent is looking to improve his position.

Makhnov is looking to stall here but Kent recovers full guard.
Kent pulls Makhnov in close to prevent any damage.
Kent is breathing heavily.
Kent is trying to control the position from the bottom.
Makhnov sitting in guard here, content to control.
Kent is working the butterfly guard. He manages to land a nice scissor sweep and is now in half guard on the top. Nice move.
Makhnov gets full guard.

Kent wants to control from the top but Makhnov keeps moving.
Makhnov looking for a sweep. Not yet Makhnov, not yet.
Makhnov is trying to stand up but he's not managed so far.
Makhnov keeping moving, preventing Kent from controlling successfully.

Kent sitting in guard doing not very much at all here. Makhnov doesn't need a second invitation though! He's locked up a guillotine and he's squeezing tight! That is tiiiiiiiiight! Kent paying the price for stalling here - he's pushing hard on the arm trying to free himself but it's no use! He's tapped! WOW, quick submission from Makhnov - great work!
