PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a super heavyweight MMA rules bout between Sarah Ha (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Bob Sapp (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Sapp has a niggling injury. He would have liked to come in 100% fit but that's not always possible. Bob Sapp will no doubt be trying to keep this one on the feet, where he has a distinct advantage.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the super heavyweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Tokyo, Sarah Ha!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 1 - 1 - 0, fighting out of Tokyo, Bob Sapp!
The judges for this bout are Yukihiro Yamamoto, Kenichi Hosakawa and Yuuki Gou.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Horrible takedown by Ha or perhaps it was just good defense by Sapp which made him look bad.
Ha throws a looping left and ducks down for a takedown. He's got his arms around Sapp's waist but Sapp gets an underhook and avoids the takedown by throwing Ha off to one side.
A punch lands to the side of Ha 's head but he takes it in his stride.


It looks like Sarah Ha has been cut.
Sapp defends well against a solid takedown attempt from Ha.
That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Sarah Ha. That's going to take a lot out of him.

Ha decides to change it up a bit and drives through with a nice takedown into half guard.
Ha tries to pass to full mount but Sapp defends it.

Ha's ground tactics aren't going to win him many fans. Let's hope he's got fireworks for us if he gets back to his feet because he's not doing much on the ground.

The crowd are starting to boo a lack of action.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.

The referee stands the fighters back up. Sarah Ha just wasn't active enough from the dominant position.
Sapp jabbing away but nothing is landing.

Ha pushes Sapp up against the cage in a clinch.

That's four minutes gone in the round.
A lull in the action here being met with boos from the crowd.

Ha's corner calls for him to break the clinch, which he does.

Sapp closes the distance and clinches.
Ha has a body lock and is looking for a takedown. Sapp is bouncing around trying to prevent the takedown and somehow he has indeed managed to stay on his feet.
Sapp wants to push off and get back to the center of the mat but Ha has him pressed against the cage.
Sapp gets underhooks to prevent Ha's takedown attempt.
Sapp is trying to break the clinch but Ha is controlling him.

Ha escapes the clinch and we're back to striking.
Bob Sapp is looking to keep the fight on the feet at all costs.
Sapp tests Ha's chin there with a solid looking shot.
Sapp tries to close the distance and clinch up against the cage but Ha paws at him with a jab and circles away.
Sapp lunges in with swinging rights and lefts but Ha circles away quickly and effectively.
Sapp looks to throw the jab but Ha is out of range.

Sapp throws a monster uppercut resembling something out of street fighter but it doesn't land.
Sapp throws the left hand but Ha avoids the punch easily.
Ha fails with a takedown attempt.
Wow, both these guys are really going for it!
Sapp slips in close and lands a nice hook before moving back out of range.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Bob Sapp dominated that round.
The cut man is working on Sarah Ha's cut.
The fighters get back to their feet, the hooter sounds and we're back to the action!


Sapp fails in his attempt to clinch.
No luck for Ha with that takedown attempt.
Sapp looks to score with a jab to the body but Ha is just out of range.
Ha misses with a takedown attempt. He shot from a bit too far out.
Sapp lets loose with a powerful body kick. Ha will feel that in the morning.
Ha on the wrong end of an overhand right that came out of nowhere.
A lazy left from Sapp finds it's target.
Sapp fails with an attempt to clinch.
Ha looks for a takedown here. Will he get it? Sapp is fending him off so far but Ha persists. Nope, Sapp circles away and we're back to standing.

Sapp connects with a slap. Keep your fist closed son.

Ha shoots in looking for a double leg takedown. Sapp defends it nicely.

Ha lunges in with swinging rights and lefts but Sapp circles away quickly and effectively.

Ha shoots in for a takedown from distance. He catches Sapp napping and manages to drive through into side control!
Both fighters are absolutely exhausted here.
The crowd cheering loudly, showing their appreciation for the quality fight we're seeing here.

Ha decides to stand back up. Ha steps back and let's Sapp get back to his feet.
Ha shoots in looking for a takedown. Sapp tries to sprawl out of it but Ha keeps driving through. The fighters are pinned against the cage. Sapp manages to get underhooks and after a bit of a struggle, circles away and we're back to standing.
Sapp throws a hook to the side of Ha's head but Ha sees it coming and ducks under it beautifully.
Sapp tests Ha's chin there with a solid looking shot.
Ha shoots in looking for a takedown. Sapp tries to sprawl out of it but Ha keeps driving through. The fighters are pinned against the cage. Sapp manages to get underhooks and after a bit of a struggle, circles away and we're back to standing.
Ha needs to keep his hands up - Sapp had a free shot at his head there.

Sapp cracks Ha with an open hand slap.

Ha moves into the clinch.

Sapp pushes off and circles away, back to the middle of the mat.
A really sloppy takedown attempt there from Ha.

Sapp drives through and clinches with Ha against the cage.
Ha has Sapp pressed against the cage, preventing Sapp from circling away and getting back to striking at range.
Ha keeps control of Sapp as he tries to wriggle out of the double underhooks.

The crowd applaud the fighters efforts here as the round comes to an end.

Bob Sapp showed his class in that round. I'd imagine he'll take it on all the scorecards.

Ha shoots in but no luck this time.
Sapp tries to close the distance and clinch but Ha swats him to one side with an open hand palm strike and circles away.

and Ha counters with a nice single leg takedown and he's in Sapp's guard now.
Ha is intent on slowing down the pace of the fight, simply looking to control.

Ha drops back for a leg! It's a sloppy attempt though and Ha jumps back into guard quickly, to retain the dominant position.
Ha will need to keep those long limbs tucked in whilst he's on the ground, to prevent any submissions.
Ha not doing a lot at the moment. He'll have to show some more aggression or the fight will get stood up.
Sarah Ha overall seems to be getting the better of the ground position in the fight so far.

The referee decides to stand the fighters back up, due to lack of activity on the part of Sarah Ha.
Sapp rushes forward with a series of wild hooks but Ha moves out of range and avoids them all easily.
Ha scores with a nice body kick.

Ha shoots in looking for a single leg takedown. Sapp is trying to defend but Ha finishes it well and ends up in half guard. Let's see if he can advance position further.
