Coming up we have a light heavyweight MMA rules bout between Chuck Liddell (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Martin Ruus (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). The crowd giving both fighters a great reception on their way into the arena. That's good to see.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the light heavyweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 6 - 7 - 0, fighting out of Las Vegas, Chuck Liddell!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 7 - 4 - 0, fighting out of Las Vegas, Martin Ruus!
The judges for this bout are Robert Twigg, Daniel Franklin and George Francis.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Liddell throws a combination but it was largely blocked by Ruus.
A left and a right from Liddell both land. Nice combination.


It looks like Martin Ruus has been cut.
Liddell lunges in with swinging rights and lefts but Ruus circles away quickly and effectively.
Liddell fails with an attempt to clinch.
Ruus misses with a takedown attempt - Liddell sprawls well and throws a nice strike on the way out which just misses.
This has been an exciting period of action!
Liddell thuds a left hand into Ruus's body.
Chuck Liddell seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.
Ruus closes the distance and clinches up with Liddell, looking for a takedown. Ruus pushes Liddell against the cage but Liddell circles to the side and manages to break the clinch.

Ruus rushes Liddell and pushes him back against the cage in a clinch.

Ruus has hold of one of Liddell's legs. Liddell is fighting the takedown attempt but Ruus gets the trip and lands the takedown into guard.
Ruus won't allow Liddell to get back to his feet.
Ruus stands up and looks to throw the legs aside to pass to side control. Liddell swivels though and keeps the full guard.

Liddell is looking to stand up but Ruus isn't so interested in that idea.
Ruus has the superior BJJ but he's also working some ground strikes into his gameplan.

Ruus drops back looking for a heel hook - he quickly realises he's not going to get it but Liddell manages to dive on top of him before he can escape and now Ruus has Liddell in his guard.

Liddell knows he needs to get back to his feet asap. He's simply no match for Ruus on the ground.

Ruus is looking for a guillotine. You can't force these things though and Liddell defends well.

It looks like we're going to have a standup here. Neither fighter is doing enough on the ground.
Liddell lunges in with swinging rights and lefts but Ruus circles away quickly and effectively.

Liddell slaps away a takedown attempt from Ruus, before circling back to the center of the mat.
Chuck Liddell has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Martin Ruus.
Ruus shoots for a double leg takedown but Liddell sprawls well. He's pushed Ruus's face into the mat and manages to get back to his feet relatively easily.
Liddell fails to land with the punch combination there - jab, cross, hook, miss, miss, miss.

The crowd are showing their displeasure at the lack of action as loud boos ring out around the arena.
Liddell fails to land with a series of punches.
Ruus shoots in looking for a takedown. Liddell tries to sprawl out of it but Ruus keeps driving through. The fighters are pinned against the cage. Liddell manages to get underhooks and after a bit of a struggle, circles away and we're back to standing.
Liddell throws a right and a left that Ruus avoids nicely.
Ruus tries to close the distance and clinch but Liddell swats him to one side with an open hand palm strike and circles away.
Liddell scores with a sloppy right hand. Ruus should have avoided that one.
A head kick misses from Liddell.
Liddell throws a nice looking combination but Ruus bobs and weaves to avoid any damage.

Liddell is trying to control the position but Ruus postures up.
The crowd applaud the fighters efforts here as the round comes to an end.

Ruus stands up from guard. Let's bang!

Ruus feints and as Liddell raises his hands in defense, Ruus changes levels and drives through with a takedown into guard.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Chuck Liddell dominated that round.

The fighters get back to their feet, the hooter sounds and we're back to the action!

Liddell can't keep his opponent in guard - Ruus advances to half guard, no doubt looking to mount.
Ruus thows a wild elbow that connects with the canvas.

Ruus is thinking about going for an arm triangle but he can't free his leg.
Both fighters are absolutely exhausted here.

Ruus seems like he's working for an arm triangle here. He's freed his trapped foot and he's rotating nicely. Liddell is in big trouble! He's tapping out! This one is aaaaaaaaaaaall over!
