PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a featherweight MMA rules bout between Marko Polo (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Jake Shields (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Shields has chosen Take your shirt off as his entrance music, which hasn't gone down very well with the crowd. Over to our ring announcer for the fighter introductions!

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the featherweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of London, Marko Polo!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 2 - 0 - 0, fighting out of London, Jake Shields!
The judges for this bout are Andrew Berry, James Glass and Steven Brown.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!

Polo instigates a clinch.
Polo gets underhooks to prevent Shields's takedown attempt.
Shields changes levels and goes for a takedown here. Polo fights it off and pushes away nicely.
Shields shoots in looking for a takedown. Polo tries to sprawl out of it but Shields keeps driving through. The fighters are pinned against the cage. Polo manages to get underhooks and after a bit of a struggle, circles away and we're back to standing.
Marko Polo has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Jake Shields.
Polo throws a right and a left that Shields avoids nicely.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
A head kick misses from Polo.
Polo moves in looking to clinch but Shields pushes him off.

and Shields counters with a nice shoot takedown that brings the fighters to the ground.
We could do with one of the fighters taking the initiative a bit more on the ground - they're both waiting to capitalize on a mistake.

Shields throwing strikes from guard but Polo blocks nicely.
Polo wants to stand and escape but Shields is having none of it.
Shields passes into half guard.
Shields lands a big shot. The thud that echoes around the arena is like music to the fans' ears.
Shields wants to pass to mount but Polo is defending the position.

Shields is trying to work for a kimura. This could be trouble! No, Polo has managed to free his arm - good work.
Polo on his back here. We all know that wrestlers don't like being on their back so let's see if Polo tries to get out of the position.
Shields is nestled in close to Polo, controlling him well. He's worked in a nice elbow to the side of the head as well, for good measure.
Shields passes to side control.
Shields cracks Polo with a big right hand but Polo just smiles back at him and invites him to have another go.

That's two minutes gone in the round.
Shields misses with a strike but at least he's keeping busy, looking to cause some damage - that will still help him when it comes to the judges scorecards.
Polo is trying to buck Shields off.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.

Shields working hard here to secure a kimura but he's not really in the right position for it.
Shields sitting in side control, looking to soften his opponent up with elbows and hammerfists but Polo is avoiding damage well and looking to escape the position.
Polo is looking to regain half guard here but Shields keeps moving and retains side control.

Shields is trying to land an Americana. He has the arm isolated but Polo is keeping cool and he's avoided the danger for now.
Polo is breathing heavily.
Polo takes a big shot right to the temple there but he's taken it well.

That's three minutes gone in the round.
Polo wants to control but Shields postures up.
Shields postures up a little and throws a couple of hammerfists but they don't connect properly.

Shields tries for a kimura but Polo is defending well.

Shields wants to work for a kimura but he's foiled early by Polo, who protects the arm well.

Shields is trying to land an Americana. He has the arm isolated but Polo is keeping cool and he's avoided the danger for now.
Polo knows he needs to get back to his feet asap. He's simply no match for Shields on the ground.

Shields cracks Polo with a big elbow.
Polo is putting a lot of effort into getting back to his feet here.
Shields looking to punish the body of his opponent here but Polo is avoiding damage well.

Shields working hard here to secure a kimura but he's not really in the right position for it.

Shields is in a dominant position here, looking for a kimura. Polo looks calm but he's in trouble here. Shields gets his leg over his opponent's head and yanks on the arm. Polo is tapping like a morse code operator on the titanic! SOS! SOS! Shields lets go of the hold and Polo can pop his arm back in it's socket.
