PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a heavyweight MMA rules bout between Erik Jones (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Matti Koskela (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Koskela has a niggling injury. He would have liked to come in 100% fit but that's not always possible. Over to our ring announcer for the fighter introductions!

The judges for this bout are Roosa Järviläinen, Johanna Lukiainen and Marco Blurström.

The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Koskela wants to clinch up but Jones keeps it at a distance.
Jones changes levels and scores with a jab to the body.

Jones fakes an overhand right and shoots for a takedown. Koskela sprawls well initially but Jones persists and gets the takedown into half guard.
We get told so often about how wrestlers don't like to be on their backs. Let's see if Koskela can do anything to dispel that myth.

Jones has freed up his trapped foot and advances to mount.

Jones with some aggressive grappling here. He's looking for submissions here, rather than waiting for the opportunity to counter.

Koskela throws a head kick that misses and slips in the process. He scrambles back to his feet and the fighters circle.

Fantastic stuff here - a very entertaining period of action, which has drawn cheers from the crowd.

Jones closes the distance and gets a double leg, slamming Koskela to the mat! Koskela manages to get full guard.

Jones stands up and waves to Koskela to follow him.

Koskela really doesn't want to stay on the ground with Jones. If he can't get it back to his feet, it's only a matter of time before he'll be tapping out.

Jones winds up and cracks Koskela with a swinging punch to the side of the head.

Jones is trying a forearm choke… I don't think that's going to do much at this level of the game.

The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
Jones takes a deep breath and rests his weight momentarily on top of his opponent, to control the position.
Jones winds up and cracks Koskela with a swinging punch to the side of the head.

Jones is working for submissions here but there's nothing on.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.

As the round comes to an end the crowd are showing their appreciation for a great round of action.
Jones's ground tactics aren't going to win him many fans. Let's hope he's got fireworks for us if he gets back to his feet because he's not doing much on the ground.

Jones clinches up with Koskela and pushes him back against the cage.

Jones jumps guard and drags Koskela to the mat. He's obviously going to be looking for submissions off his back.

Erik Jones overall seems to be getting the better of the ground position in the fight so far.

The crowd are showing their displeasure at the lack of action as loud boos ring out around the arena.
Jones is pulling down on Koskela's head. It's preventing any offense from Koskela, at least for the moment.
There's a bit of a scramble here and now Jones is on top in guard.
Jones seems content to control from guard here. He's going to have to remain active though if he doesn't want to get stood back up.
