PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a light heavyweight MMA rules bout between Vladimir Banks (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Pete Boyle (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Chooooooooon! I think Banks might be my favorite fighter, now he's come out to Onward To Victory. Both fighters look fresh as a daisy as they make their way towards the cage.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the light heavyweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 6 - 3 - 0, fighting out of New York, Vladimir Banks!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 2 - 1 - 0, fighting out of New York, Pete Boyle!
The judges for this bout are Reed Andrews, John Kavanagh and David Schapiro.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Banks thumps Boyle with a low kick.
Banks uses decent footwork to sidestep a right hand from Boyle.
A jab from Boyle misses.
Banks wants to land a leg kick but Boyle is out of range.

A momentary lapse in concentration from Banks enables Boyle to shoot in and score with a neat double leg. Banks manages to secure a closed guard as the fighters hit the mat.

Banks is looking to get back to his feet but can't, whilst Boyle is controlling him.
Boyle throwing elbows and punches but not connecting, as Banks works some decent striking defense from the bottom.
A real slowdown in the pace of the fight for a moment, as Banks holds on and takes a little breather.

Banks stands up and looks to throw the legs aside to pass to side control. Boyle swivels though and keeps the full guard.

A big thud reverberates around the arena there as Banks accidentally thumps the mat. Hopefully he's not broken his hand.

Banks drops back looking for a heel hook - he quickly realises he's not going to get it but Boyle manages to dive on top of him before he can escape and now Banks has Boyle in his guard.
The fighters are starting to perspire pretty heavily.
Banks tries to land a sweep but no joy.

Banks avoiding any damage from the ground and pound.
Boyle postures up to throw the ground and pound strikes but they don't connect.

Banks has his foot on Boyle's thigh. He's trying to push off and get in position for a triangle, I think. Boyle works his way back into a safe position though.

A few boos can be heard. I'm sure they will multiply if the fighters don't pick up the pace.

The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
Boyle slips effortlessly into side control - very nice.

Boyle throws a strike aimed at the side of Banks's head but Banks avoids it well.
You can see the frustration on Banks's face, being in this tough position on the bottom.
Boyle lands a knee to the body and follows it up with some ground and pound to the head. That will wear Banks down.

The referee calls time. The cornermen exit stage left and we're back to business.


Boyle takes a body punch that cleary hurt but he's trying not to show any weakness.
Boyle keeping a good distance there, avoiding the body shot.
Banks uses good head movement to avoid the hook from Boyle.
A looping hook to the body misses from Banks. Boyle does a little dance to reset his feet.
Boyle lands a nice hook to Banks's body. Banks takes it in his stride and looks to land his own strikes.
Vladimir Banks is looking to throw some combinations by the looks of things.
Banks throws out a token jab with nothing on it.
Boyle shoots in looking for a takedown. Banks tries to sprawl out of it but Boyle keeps driving through. The fighters are pinned against the cage. Banks manages to get underhooks and after a bit of a struggle, circles away and we're back to standing.

Banks throws a sloppy head kick and Boyle moves out of range easily.
Boyle missing with a left hand there. Banks was out of range so wasted energy throwing that one.
Banks scores with a slapping inside leg kick.
Boyle walks straight into an uppercut. Luckily it didn't land flush.
Banks tries a switch kick but it misses it's target.
Banks tries to close the distance and clinch up but Boyle swats him away and circles back towards the center.
Vladimir Banks seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.

Banks fakes a jab and then connects with a hook.
Boyle ducks down and throws a hook to the body but Banks moves away.

Banks has taken the fight to the clinch.
Banks stalling the fight.
Boyle tries to score a body lock takedown but Banks shows good agility there to stay on his feet.

Banks breaks the clinch and we're back to striking at distance.
Some wild striking there from Boyle.
Banks getting the better of the striking in that exchange.

Vladimir Banks is looking to keep the fight on the feet at all costs.
Banks displays some good footwork, moving neatly out of range as Boyle throws out the jab.

Boyle will have to do better than that with his takedown attempts.

Banks tries to kick Boyle off but Boyle keeps his base steady and stays in half guard.

Boyle is working for a submission of some sort.
Banks is trying to control but can't.
Boyle throwing punches and elbows but they're not doing any damage.
The two fighters exchange a few words. I couldn't hear what they were saying but maybe it's more fun if you make it up yourself. Boyle connects with a nice short shot to Banks's temple.

Banks pushes Boyle off and gets back to his feet.
Banks goes for a spinning back kick but it misses.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

That was a close second round but I would say that Vladimir Banks will probably get the nod.
The minute break is over - no more time for sponges and pep talks - back to the action! The crowd applaud as we get ready to start the final round!


Banks gets cracked there but stands up to it.
Boyle shoots in for a double leg but Banks sprawls well. That's going to sap some energy.
No joy there for Banks, who threw a few shots but didn't land.
Banks is the aggressor but that punch slipped nicely by Boyle.
Banks tries to bum rush Boyle with a series of wild strikes but Boyle uses good footwork to avoid the assault.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Banks staying out of range there.
Boyle slips a jab from Banks.
Boyle shoots in for a takedown but Banks shows good takedown defense.

Banks looks to score with a jab to the body but Boyle is just out of range.

Boyle throws a shot from downtown. Banks moves away and avoids it.

There's not a lot going on here and the crowd are letting the fighters know they're not willing to tolerate a lack of action.

Banks throws a monster uppercut resembling something out of street fighter but it doesn't land.
Boyle throws a hook to the side of Banks's head but Banks sees it coming and ducks under it beautifully.

Banks misses with a jab and misses with a cross straight after too.
Banks throws a low kick but it's checked well by Boyle.

and Boyle counters with a single leg into guard. Banks didn't expect that.

Banks avoiding any damage from the ground and pound.
Banks is trying to keep Boyle in close.
Banks wants to sweep but no luck.
Boyle wants to pass the guard but Banks is keeping the position.

Boyle drops back looking for a leg! Banks is in trouble here! The fighters roll with the hold and Banks manages to kick Boyle off! Boyle jumps back into Banks's guard.
Boyle won't allow Banks to get back to his feet.
Boyle stands up and looks to throw the legs aside to pass to side control. Banks swivels though and keeps the full guard.
Boyle postures up and scores with a shot to the body and a follow up elbow to the head.

Banks wants to stand but Boyle is controlling the position.

And that's the end of the fight!
Pete Boyle comfortably won the final round on my scorecard.
I think Boyle has won this one but let's see whether the judges agree with me. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
