PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a light heavyweight MMA rules bout between Rex Crug (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Ryan Eijgenraam (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Crug kept the crowd waiting but all that was forgotten when his ring entrance music started. The incomparable musical genius that is Welcome to the jungle. Man, I cannot wait for this one!

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the light heavyweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 1 - 1 - 0, fighting out of Sydney, Rex Crug!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Sydney, Ryan Eijgenraam!
The judges for this bout are Bruno Hogan, John Mangel and Donatello Bradman.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!

Crug gets caught flat footed, as Eijgenraam shoots in with a quick takedown into guard.

Eijgenraam gets to his feet. Crug looking to butt scoot but the ref puts an end to that. On your feet son!
Crug fails with an attempt to clinch.
Crug moves out of range of the body kick.

Eijgenraam gets a clinch.
Crug letting Eijgenraam take a breather here.
Crug tries to land a knee to the head but misses.
Eijgenraam taking a break, stalling in the clinch.
Crug tries to work over Eijgenraam's body with a swooping hook but it only glances the target.

Eijgenraam jumps guard and drags Crug to the mat. He's obviously going to be looking for submissions off his back.
Crug has to be careful here, sitting in the guard of a superior BJJ player.
Crug wants to stand and escape but instead Eijgenraam has hit a sweep and he's now on top in guard.

Eijgenraam slows down the pace of the fight for a moment. He'll need to remain active if he doesn't want to see the fight stood back up.

Eijgenraam is just sitting in guard, looking to avoid any submissions.
Crug wants to get back to his feet but Eijgenraam is in a dominant position and won't allow it.

Crug is trying to control the position but Eijgenraam postures up.

and Eijgenraam counters with a nice double leg into side control. Crug won't be happy with that.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.

We've seen a great period of action over the last minute or so - credit to both fighters for going all out!

Still in half guard, Eijgenraam seems content to control.

and Eijgenraam counters with a single leg into guard. Crug didn't expect that.

Eijgenraam wants to control from the top but Crug keeps moving.
Crug wants to sweep but no luck.
Crug wants to stand up but Eijgenraam is controlling him.

Eijgenraam thinks about going for a leg but decides against it, in order to maintain the position.

The referee decides to stand the fighters back up.

Eijgenraam can't quite control the action as he would like just now, as Crug is looking to escape.
Crug is looking to get to half guard.
Crug is really trying hard to get back to his feet.
Eijgenraam trying to control but he's not successful this time.
As the round comes to an end the crowd are showing their appreciation for a great round of action.
Eijgenraam thowing strikes but they're hitting the gloves, not doing any damage.
Crug throwing hammer fists to the chest of Eijgenraam. What's that going to do exactly?
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

That's the end of the interval. I'm sure that seemed a lot quicker than a minute for our two fighters! Back to the action.


Eijgenraam avoids the clinch attempt nicely.

Eijgenraam changes levels and drives through with a really nice takedown into side control. Crug looks really pissed at himself for not defending that better.

Eijgenraam takes a little breather and maintains the position. The referee will be looking for him to stay active from such a dominant position though.
Crug's corner are shouting for him to stand up but that's bad cornering - how is he meant to stand up when he's mounted? He should be looking to improve his position on the ground before trying to stand back up.

A lull in the action here being met with boos from the crowd.
Eijgenraam blocks Crug's feeble attempts to strike from the bottom.

Eijgenraam throws an elbow from mount that misses. Lucky escape for Crug because Eijgenraam loaded up on that one.

Eijgenraam might have to switch it up a bit here because his efforts to control Crug kaven't been going to plan, at least at the current moment in time.

Well. There's a bit of a lull in the action here and the crowd are starting to get restless.

Eijgenraam is going oldschool here, as he tries to force Crug to tap using a forearm choke. This isn't 1993 though, so Crug shrugs it off.
Eijgenraam wants to control the pace but Crug is squirming around nicely.
Crug is wriggling around trying to escape.
Boooooooooooooooooooo!!! God, this has been a terrible round. Come on you two, sort yourselves out!

Eijgenraam has hold of Crug's left arm, perhaps looking for a submission. The two fighters tussle over control of the isolated limb and Crug manages to get his arm back to his side and away from danger.

Ryan Eijgenraam showed his class in that round. I'd imagine he'll take it on all the scorecards.

Eijgenraam is taking a breather. Crug says something to him but it's hard to make out. Perhaps he's telling him to get on with it and actually do something.

The two fighters exchange a few words. I couldn't hear what they were saying but maybe it's more fun if you make it up yourself. Crug connects with a nice short shot to Eijgenraam's temple.

There's not a lot going on here and the crowd are letting the fighters know they're not willing to tolerate a lack of action.

The crowd applaud the fighters efforts here as the round comes to an end.

Well Eijgenraam has outworked and out performed his opponent in all aspects of the game today. He was simply too good and the decision should be no more than a formality. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
