PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a light heavyweight MMA rules bout between Anton Pavlov (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and James Jones (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Chooooooooon! I think Pavlov might be my favorite fighter, now he's come out to Breath. I don't know about you partner, but I'm pumped for this one!

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the light heavyweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of St Petersburg, Anton Pavlov!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 0 - 2 - 0, fighting out of St Petersburg, James Jones!
The judges for this bout are Vladimir Khabensky, Igor Prikhodko and Fedor Mirinova.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!

Pavlov clinches up with Jones and pushes him back against the cage.
Jones looks really tired already! That doesn't bode well for a good, competitive fight!
Jones is looking for a takedown up against the cage. Pavlov gets underhooks though and prevents the takedown attempt.
Pavlov wants to break free but Jones has control.
Jones is trying to drag Pavlov to the mat but Pavlov just about manages to keep his footing. He used the cage to his advantage there.

Pavlov manages to pull guard.

Pavlov uses the cage to get back to his feet.
Pavlov throws a right and a left that Jones avoids nicely.
Jones on the wrong end of a nice jab.

Pavlov gets in close and instigates a clinch.

Pavlov pulls guard.
Pavlov is looking to get back to his feet but can't, whilst Jones is controlling him.
Jones tries to free his leg and advance position but Pavlov is retaining full guard.
A real slowdown in the pace of the fight for a moment, as Pavlov holds on and takes a little breather.

Pavlov is trying to stand up but he's not managed so far.
Pavlov seems keen to control Jones's posture.
Jones stands up and looks to throw the legs aside to pass to side control. Pavlov swivels though and keeps the full guard.
Pavlov pulls Jones in close to prevent any damage.
Pavlov might be looking to lock onto one of his opponent's long limbs for a submission, whilst we're on the ground.
Jones tries to free his leg and advance position but Pavlov is retaining full guard.

The crowd are starting to boo a lack of action.
Pavlov is trying to stand up but he's not managed so far.
Jones won't allow Pavlov to sweep him here.
Jones is looking to advance position but Pavlov has hit a scissor sweep - now he's on top in mount!

Pavlov is working for a guillotine from mount but Jones frees his head quite easily.

Pavlov breaks from Jones's wrist control and lands an elbow.
Pavlov unloads with some shots from mount but Jones bucks and avoids them well.
Jones bucks up and manages to get a nice reversal! He's in guard on the top - nicely done!
Jones won't allow Pavlov to get back to his feet.

The crowd are getting on the fighters' backs, as the pace has dropped off in the last minute or so.
Jones passes Pavlov's left leg - he's now in half guard.
Jones wants to pass to mount but Pavlov is defending the position.
Pavlov wants to improve his position but Jones is controlling well.
Jones works his foot free and advances to mount.
A nice elbow there by Jones.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Anton Pavlov dominated that round.
The corners get their ten second warning. Both fighters stand from their stools and stare eachother down, ready to get back to the action.


Pavlov throws a head kick that misses.
Jones shoots in for a takedown but doesn't get it.
Pavlov scores with a one two! Jones had his feet all tangled up there and couldn't avoid the strikes.
Pavlov listening to his corner there, landing a nice uppercut.
Pavlov's corner calls for a 1,2 combination and Pavlov duly obliges.

Pavlov has managed to clinch.
Pavlov wants to strike at distance but he can't break free of the clinch.

Pavlov pulls Jones into guard.
Pavlov knows he needs to get back to his feet asap. He's simply no match for Jones on the ground.
Pavlov avoiding any damage from the ground and pound.

Pavlov is edging up against the cage. He's using the cage to get back to his feet. Nice work there - the fighters are clinched.
Jones drops down looking for an ankle pick but Pavlov pulls his leg out and moves away.
Both fighters are absolutely exhausted here.
Pavlov misses with a jab and misses with a cross straight after too.

Pavlov gets a clinch.
Jones is trying to drag Pavlov to the mat but Pavlov just about manages to keep his footing. He used the cage to his advantage there.
Anton Pavlov has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of James Jones.

Jones is working for takedown but Pavlov is calmly controlling the position for now.

Pavlov jumps guard and drags Jones to the mat. He's obviously going to be looking for submissions off his back.

Pavlov manages to escape and get back to his feet.

Pavlov throws the overhand right but ducks down into a quick takedown attempt. Jones was covering up waiting for the punch and Pavlov finishes the takedown easily into guard.

Pavlov is looking to work some ground and pound but Jones has wrist control.
Jones wants to stand and escape but Pavlov is having none of it.

Pavlov works over Jones with some ground and pound from guard.
Pavlov thows a big elbow that misses.

Neither fighter is doing enough for the referee's liking and he's decided to stand them back up.
Jones doesn't succeed with the takedown

so Pavlov counters with a double leg into guard. Good agility.
Pavlov lands a couple of elbows.

Jones is in a good position here but he's just trying to control... And he's not even managing to do that successfully.

Jones working from the bottom, still in full guard. He's managed to get a loose triangle. Pavlov doesn't seem to be doing much to defend here, obviously he feels comfortable in the position. Pavlov manages to throw the legs off his shoulder and he's back into guard - no problem.
Anton Pavlov overall seems to be getting the better of the ground position in the fight so far.

The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
Jones looking for a sweep. Not yet Jones, not yet.
Jones wants to stand up but Pavlov is controlling him.

It looks like we're going to have a standup here. Neither fighter is doing enough on the ground.

Jones feints and as Pavlov raises his hands in defense, Jones changes levels and drives through with a takedown into guard.
Pavlov is working the butterfly guard. He manages to land a nice scissor sweep and is now in half guard on the top. Nice move.
The crowd applaud the fighters efforts here as the round comes to an end.

Pavlov is working for a kimura here but Jones manages to reverse the position and he's now in Pavlov's guard.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Anton Pavlov dominated that second round.
The referee calls time. The cornermen exit stage left and we're back to business. So, we enter the final round. Let's see if either fighter can bring us a finish, or whether we're going to the judges scorecards.


Jones gets his takedown attempt stuffed easily

and Pavlov counters with a nice double leg into half guard.

Pavlov is nestled in close to Jones, controlling him well. He's worked in a nice elbow to the side of the head as well, for good measure.

Pavlov wants to work for an arm triangle but Jones is really keeping half guard well and defending the submission attempt.

The fighters are battling for position here. Jones manages to regain full guard. Nice work.

Well, the referee has seen enough. Neither fighter is active enough on the ground so he's stood them back up.

Well. There's a bit of a lull in the action here and the crowd are starting to get restless.

Pavlov tries to buck Jones off but he can't manage it.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.

Jones has his opponent pinned against the cage, landing some nasty ground and pound that is really making a bit of a mess out of Pavlov's face.

And that's the end of the fight!
That was a close round. You could make an argument for either fighter but I would give it to Anton Pavlov.
Well Pavlov has outscored his opponent in every aspect of the fight today. Only a scarily incompetent judge or two will keep him from a well deserved win... Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
