PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a heavyweight MMA rules bout between Earth Quake (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Johnny Guapo (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Quake comes to the cage accompanied by PRODIGY - RUN WITH THE WOLVES . These two fighters really are very evenly matched on the feet - it will be fascinating to see who can assert themselves in that aspect of the fight.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the heavyweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 10 - 6 - 0, fighting out of Las Vegas, Earth Quake!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 13 - 6 - 0, fighting out of Las Vegas, Johnny Guapo!
The judges for this bout are Frank Dennis, Tiny Johnson and Chris Downing.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!

A momentary lapse in concentration from Quake enables Guapo to shoot in and score with a neat double leg. Quake manages to secure a closed guard as the fighters hit the mat.
Quake seems keen to control Guapo's posture.
Quake is working from a closed guard but he's struggling to control his opponent.
Quake is controlling Guapo's posture.
Guapo is looking to work some ground and pound but Quake has wrist control.
Quake looking to sweep here. No luck so far.
Guapo postures up to throw the ground and pound strikes but they don't connect.

The ref stands the fighters back up because Earth Quake just wasn't active enough.

Guapo drops back looking for a leg! Quake is in trouble here! The fighters roll with the hold and Quake manages to kick Guapo off! Guapo jumps back into Quake's guard.

A lull in the action here being met with boos from the crowd.
Guapo looking to sit in guard and control but Quake gets the butterfly guard and sweeps. He's now in the guard on the top.

We've had a lack of effective grappling in the last minute or so, which could well see a referee standup.

We're going to have a standup here because Earth Quake wasn't active enough for the referee's liking.
Quake walks into a stiff left hand from Guapo.

Guapo gets the takedown into side control.
The fighters are starting to perspire pretty heavily.
Quake avoids any damage from the ground and pound of Guapo.

Guapo tries for an arm triangle. That looks pretty tight to me. Is this one over!?! Possibly, maybe, no Guapo has let go of the choke. Obviously it wasn't as tight as we thought!
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.

Guapo is looking to finish here, going for an Americana. Quake knows the correct defense though, so he's OK.
Guapo throws a strike aimed at the side of Quake's head but Quake avoids it well.
Quake is positioning himself to get back to half guard.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

That's the end of the round. The referee orders the cornermen out of the cage so we can get back down to business.



Guapo throws a loose over hand right and dives in with a double leg takedown. Quake tries to sprawl but it's too late and the fighters hit the mat. Guapo is in Quake's guard.
A big thud reverberates around the arena there as Guapo accidentally thumps the mat. Hopefully he's not broken his hand.
Quake will need to keep those long limbs tucked in whilst he's on the ground, to prevent any submissions.
Guapo is looking to work some ground and pound but Quake has wrist control.

Well, the referee has seen enough. Neither fighter is active enough on the ground so he's stood them back up.

A lull in the action here being met with boos from the crowd.
Quake misses with a straight left.
Quake stuffs the takedown attempt from Guapo. Guapo gets slowly back to his feet.
Guapo fails miserably with a takedown attempt.
Guapo shoots in for a takedown - he's clinched up with Quake but Quake pushes him off and we're back to square one.
Earth Quake has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Johnny Guapo.
Guapo misses with a takedown attempt - Quake sprawls well and throws a nice strike on the way out which just misses.

Quake swings for the body but Guapo moves out of range.

Quake utilising some decent striking defenses from the guard, preventing the ground and pound.
Quake wants to stand up but Guapo is controlling him.

Quake manages to land a sweep and now he's in mount on top!

Guapo tries to lock up and control but Quake gives him a forearm to the face and pushes him away.

That was a close second round but I would say that Earth Quake will probably get the nod.
That's the end of the interval. I'm sure that seemed a lot quicker than a minute for our two fighters! Back to the action. Let's hear some noise people - this is the final round!

Guapo postures up as if he's going to throw some strikes but drops back for an ankle! Quake is in big trouble! He looks ready to tap! But no, he's escaped and dives on top of Guapo, into his guard.
Quake slows down the pace of the fight for a moment. He'll need to remain active if he doesn't want to see the fight stood back up.
Guapo has the superior BJJ but he's also working some ground strikes into his gameplan.

Guapo shoots in for a takedown. "I don't think so" says Quake as he avoids it easily.
Guapo shoots in with a takedown attempt and he has Quake pinned against the cage. Quake gets the underhooks and manages to circle away.
Earth Quake is looking to keep the fight on the feet at all costs.

Guapo creates some space and throws a big elbow, but Quake sees it coming and moves his head just enough to avoid the strike.

Guapo wants to work for a kimura but he's foiled early by Quake, who protects the arm well.

Guapo wants to lay and pray for a moment but Quake keeps working.
Guapo tries to score with some ground and pound. Quake controls his posture well this time though and the shots don't do any damage.

Guapo misses with a strike but at least he's keeping busy, looking to cause some damage - that will still help him when it comes to the judges scorecards.

Johnny Guapo comfortably won the final round on my scorecard.
I think Guapo has won this one but let's see whether the judges agree with me. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
