PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a heavyweight MMA rules bout between Bryan Banks (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Thomas Stoner (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). The crowd seem to be enjoying Stoner's choice of entrance music: Battle Hymn. I can't wait for this one - let's get the fighter introductions out of the way and get this one started!

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the heavyweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 7 - 5 - 0, fighting out of Las Vegas, Bryan Banks!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 11 - 10 - 0, fighting out of Las Vegas, Thomas Stoner!
The judges for this bout are Chris Downing, Cecil Peabody and Wesley Smith.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!

It looks like Bryan Banks has been cut.
The fans in attendance giving it up for the two fighters, who have really let it all hang out in the last minute or so!
Banks bucks up whilst keeping hold of a body lock, managing to reverse the position. Now he's in top in Stoner's guard.

Stoner seems keen to control rather than go for a submission, at least for now.

Banks is working for submissions here but there's nothing on.
Banks has been looking to land a fair amount of strikes on the ground. He might be looking to soften his opponent up in order to work for a submission.
Stoner controlling the position well.

Stoner keeping control of the leg, stopping his opponent passing to mount.
Stoner really doesn't want to stay on the ground with Banks. If he can't get it back to his feet, it's only a matter of time before he'll be tapping out.

The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.

We get told so often about how wrestlers don't like to be on their backs. Let's see if Stoner can do anything to dispel that myth.

Stoner is trying to stand up here but Banks is controlling him well.

Banks is sitting in guard, working some ground and pound.
Stoner seems keen to control rather than go for a submission, at least for now.

Stoner uses the cage to get back to his feet.
Stoner connects with a body shot that sends Banks's belly button to the back.
Thomas Stoner is looking to keep the fight on the feet at all costs.
Stoner throws a nice looking combination but Banks bobs and weaves to avoid any damage.

Excellent takedown into side control there by Banks.
Stoner struggling a bit here.
Banks postures up a little and throws a couple of hammerfists but they don't connect properly.
Stoner manages to get one leg in to regain half guard.
Banks lands with a punch from half guard.
Stoner won't allow Banks to pass to mount.

Banks seems to be working for a kimura but Stoner defends the submission attempt.
The referee walks around the fighters to get a better view of the action. Banks lands a nice short elbow.
Both fighters really going for it on the ground here!
Banks thows a huge punch but Stoner dodges it nicely.
Stoner preventing any damage for now, controlling his opponent's head.
Banks scores with a couple of good hammerfists.
Banks missing with some ground and pound from the half guard.
Stoner is positioning himself well to prevent Banks advancing to mount.
Banks passes the half guard and he's now in mount! Big trouble for Stoner!
As the round comes to an end the crowd are showing their appreciation for a great round of action.

And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

A close round but Thomas Stoner will probably get the nod.
The cut man is working on Bryan Banks's cut.
The referee calls time. The cornermen exit stage left and we're back to business.


Stoner cracks Banks with a hook to the jaw. Both fighters smile at eachother and high-five before getting back down to business.
Left hook, right uppercut from Stoner.
Stoner defends well against a solid takedown attempt from Banks.
Banks tries to score a power double leg takedown but Stoner sees that one coming and sprawls well. That will dishearten Banks somewhat.
Stoner scores with a three punch combo!
Stoner lands a nice hook to Banks's body. Banks takes it in his stride and looks to land his own strikes.
This has been an exciting period of action!
Stoner stalks Banks and leaps in with a furious combination of punches. Uppercuts and crosses smash into Banks's face. Banks staggers backwards, shaken.
Stoner changes levels and scores with a jab to the body.

Stoner throws a left that rocks Banks and follows with a right that sends him tumbling to the canvas! Stoner dives into side control, looking to finish! Can Banks regain composure!


Banks is rocked!

Stoner decides to stand back up.
Oh Banks is still all over the place! His legs are completely gone! Will he be able to recover?!!
Stoner throws an overhand right that has Banks reeling! Stoner follows up with more punches and Banks is out cold! This one is all over!

Ladies and gentlemen, after 0:47 of round 2, we have a winner by way of KO (Punches). Thomas Stoner!
