PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a heavyweight MMA rules bout between Kent Hytten (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Professor F (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Hytten comes to the cage accompanied by Wait and Bleed. F has chosen shortest man in world as his entrance music. Both these guys have really solid chins. Will we see a standup war or will they both decide that a knockout is unlikely and try to win the fight elsewhere?

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the heavyweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 12 - 6 - 0, fighting out of Las Vegas, Kent Hytten!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 19 - 4 - 0, fighting out of Las Vegas, Professor F!
The judges for this bout are Frank Dennis, Wesley Smith and Gwen Towbar.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
The fight stays on the outside here - F looks like he's thinking about clinching though.
Hytten scores with a crisp jab that stopped F in his tracks.
F looks shocked there as he takes a right hand to the temple.
Hytten avoids a punch combination nicely.
Hytten throws a head kick but F moves out of range.
Hytten displays good takedown defense there as he swats away a double leg from F.
F ducks under an overhand right and circles away with a smile on his face.
A big left from F misses.
F throws a combination but it was largely blocked by Hytten.
Hytten throws a sloppy head kick and F moves out of range easily.
F misses with a few strikes there.

F decides to change it up a bit and drives through with a nice takedown into half guard.
F slows the pace down in half guard.
Hytten is trying to stand.
Hytten wants to improve his position but F is controlling well.
F keeping composed on the top, looking to control the action.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
The referee is pacing around the two fighters - he looks like he's thinking about a standup.
F moves nicely into side control.

That's two minutes gone in the round.
F remains in side control and seems content to stay there. It's a versatile position from which he can work both strikes and submissions, whilst maintaining that control, so maybe he'll sit here for a while.
F is trying to move to mount but Hytten reverses beautifully and ends up in F's guard.
Hytten wants to pass the guard but F is keeping the position.
F lands a beautiful switch and he's in full mount! That could spell trouble for Hytten!
F wants to control the pace but Hytten is squirming around nicely.

Hytten is looking to get to half guard.
Hytten wants to hold on but F pushes him away.
Hytten really trying hard to get back to half guard here.
F tries to control but Hytten wriggling away.
Hytten regains half guard.

The crowd are showing their displeasure at the lack of action as loud boos ring out around the arena.
F trying to mount his opponent but Hytten defends it.
Hytten tries to get to full guard but F has control of the leg.
F controlling the pace.
Hytten has no desire to be mounted, so is trying to control. F is working away from the top position though.
Hytten scrambles, trying to get to his feet, but F manages to mount him!
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

That was a close round but I would say that Kent Hytten will probably get the nod.
The fighters get back to their feet, the hooter sounds and we're back to the action!


F tries to close the distance and clinch up but Hytten swats him away and circles back towards the center.
Hytten throws a head kick but F moves out of range.
F tries to clinch up but Hytten circles away and keeps his distance.

F shoots in and scores a nice double leg takedown into half guard.
Neither fighter is being very active at the moment, with F in particular looking to stall.
F is looking to pass the guard... He's managed it - he's now in full mount!
Hytten working to try and regain half guard.

F looking to finish Hytten with some ground and pound. This is bad for Hytten!
Hytten is trying desperately to improve position.
Hytten is working hard here to advance position.
F scores with a couple of good head shots there.
F controlling from the full mount.
F looking to control but Hytten is working nicely, looking to advance position himself.

That's two minutes gone in the round.
F might have to switch it up a bit here because his efforts to control Hytten kaven't been going to plan, at least at the current moment in time.
F looking to finish with strikes here!
Hytten tries to reverse the position but F maintains control.
Hytten avoids a series of strikes thrown by F.
Hytten is desperately trying to improve his position but F has a good base and remains in mount.
The crowd cheering loudly, showing their appreciation for the quality fight we're seeing here.
Hytten bucks up and manages to get a nice reversal! He's in guard on the top - nicely done!

F wants to sweep here but Hytten controlling him for the moment.
F trying to control the position.
The referee looks like he's ready to step in and stand the fighters back up.
Hytten trying to control but F is working from the bottom.
Hytten wants to stand but F has a closed guard, so he can't escape.
F looking to sweep using the butterfly guard but Hytten puts pay to that idea as he passes nicely into half guard.

Well. There's a bit of a lull in the action here and the crowd are starting to get restless.
F wants to improve his position but Hytten is controlling well.
Hytten thows a huge punch but F dodges it nicely.
F is looking to improve his position.
F keeps control of the position for the meantime.
Hytten wants to take a breather but F is having none of it.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Professor F showed his class in that round. I'd imagine he'll take it on all the scorecards.
The referee calls time. The cornermen exit stage left and we're back to business. This is the final round!


F steps to the side to avoid the strikes from Hytten.
F ducks under an overhand right and circles away with a smile on his face.
A head kick from Hytten lands but F takes it in his stride.
F keeps his opponent at a distance with a nice jab.
A big right from F misses.
Hytten lands a jab-cross combination.

F throws the overhand right but ducks down into a quick takedown attempt. Hytten was covering up waiting for the punch and F finishes the takedown easily into guard.
Hytten wants to sweep but no luck.
F trying to land body shots but he keeps hitting the mat.
F looking to pass the guard.

That's one minute gone in the round.
F trying to control but Hytten is working from the bottom.
Hytten looking to sweep here. No luck so far.
Hytten working a defensive guard here.
Hytten will need to keep those long limbs tucked in whilst he's on the ground, to prevent any submissions.
Hytten is trying to hold F in close to prevent damage but F has managed to pass into half guard.
F wants to pass the guard but Hytten is defending well.

That's two minutes gone in the round.
My god... these two guys really need to pick up the pace or everyone will leave to go get a beer.
F perhaps working for something from half guard, or maybe not. It looks like he's just sitting there.

Neither fighter is doing enough for the referee's liking and he's decided to stand them back up.

Hytten gets taken down but at least he's managed to land in guard.
F wants to pass the guard but Hytten is keeping the position.

That's three minutes gone in the round.
Hytten keeping moving, preventing F from controlling successfully.
F is in a good position here but he's just trying to control... And he's not even managing to do that successfully.
F postures up.
Hytten is doing well to control the posture of his opponent and prevent any damage.
We may be looking at a referee standup if the pace doesn't pick up soon.

Well, the referee has seen enough. Neither fighter is active enough on the ground so he's stood them back up.

F shoots in for a takedown from distance. He catches Hytten napping and manages to drive through into side control!
F advances to full mount.
F looking to control but Hytten is working nicely, looking to advance position himself.
Professor F has got the better of the ground game so far.

That's four minutes gone in the round.
Hytten working to try and regain half guard.
F controlling the pace for now.
Hytten is trying desperately to improve position.

And that's the end of the fight!
Professor F comfortably won the final round on my scorecard.
I think F has won this one but let's see whether the judges agree with me. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
