PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a light heavyweight MMA rules bout between Jack Ripper (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Harri Mulqvist (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Ripper comes to the cage accompanied by The Odorants - This Night. These two fighters really are very evenly matched on the feet - it will be fascinating to see who can assert themselves in that aspect of the fight.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the light heavyweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 8 - 5 - 0, fighting out of Helsinki, Jack Ripper!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 9 - 4 - 0, fighting out of Helsinki, Harri Mulqvist!
The judges for this bout are Roosa Järviläinen, Arvi Lind and Tarja Halkonen.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Ripper stuffs a takedown. It's all about dictating where the fight takes place and Ripper wants it to stay on the feet.
Ripper tries a low kick but Mulqvist avoids it.
Ripper uses decent footwork to sidestep a right hand from Mulqvist.
Mulqvist steps to the side to avoid the strikes from Ripper.
Mulqvist avoids the head kick by Ripper.
Ripper misses with a half-hearted attempt at a head kick.
A head kick misses from Ripper.
Ripper throws a big shot that misses.
Ripper misses the shot to the body.
Ripper looks to score with a jab to the body but Mulqvist is just out of range.
Ripper really does look like a pencil wearing a pair of gloves. Let's hope he has a gameplan to suit that ridiculous body shape.
Ripper avoids a punch combination nicely.
Ripper throws a chopping leg kick but Mulqvist manages to avoid taking any serious damage.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.

Mulqvist takes a step towards his opponent and connects with a left hand, before circling away.
Ripper misses with a half-hearted attempt at a head kick.
Ripper takes a shot to the body in his stride.

and Ripper counters with a head kick. That will keep Mulqvist thinking before he tries any more sloppy attacks!

Ripper avoids the head kick by Mulqvist.
Good leg kick by Mulqvist there. It's the ones that make that thud noise that hurt and that was an almighty thud.
Ripper takes one on the chin but seems OK.

Mulqvist has managed to clinch.
Ripper can't break the clinch.
Ripper unloads a knee to the mid-section. Mulqvist lets out a prehistoric sounding urrrrgh.

Mulqvist stalls.
Mulqvist trying to control the position but instead, Ripper has worked for underhooks and has pushed Mulqvist into the cage.
Ripper lands an uppercut.
Ripper looks like he'd prefer to be striking at range right now.

Ripper breaks the clinch.
Mulqvist tries to land with a swinging hook to the body but Ripper was well out of range. Poor timing from Mulqvist.
Ripper connects with a nice looking jab.
Jack Ripper seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.

Mulqvist scores with a jab to the body.
Ripper throws a chopping leg kick but Mulqvist manages to avoid taking any serious damage.
A head kick misses from Ripper.
Mulqvist doesn't react quick enough there as he takes a shot to the body.
This is a great period of action - very entertaining stuff!

Ripper tries to bench press Mulqvist off him but Mulqvist keeps the position.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.

Mulqvist tries to move into full mount but can't pass Ripper's legs.

A lull in the action here being met with boos from the crowd.
Mulqvist working away diligently from side control. Landing strikes effectively there - that will score him some points on the judges scorecards.

Mulqvist swings around for an armbar but Ripper sees it coming a mile off and turns beautifully into Mulqvist's guard.
The crowd applaud the fighters efforts here as the round comes to an end.

Mulqvist is looking for a triangle but Ripper pushes his legs off easily.
Mulqvist keeping moving, preventing Ripper from controlling successfully.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

That was a close round but I would say that Jack Ripper will probably get the nod.
The fighters get back to their feet, the hooter sounds and we're back to the action!

Ripper uses some good footwork to avoid the body shot by Mulqvist.

Ripper throws a low kick but it's checked well by Mulqvist.

Mulqvist shoots in for a takedown! He's got it and he's managed to land in full mount! That's better than Mulqvist was expecting from the takedown attempt, I'm sure!

Ripper is trying desperately to improve position.
Mulqvist unloads with some shots from mount but Ripper bucks and avoids them well.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
Mulqvist sends his fist crashing into the mat - the crowd let out a collective ooooooh. Let's hope he's not broken it!

A lull in the action here being met with boos from the crowd.
Mulqvist throwing sloppy strikes here. Perhaps if he tightened up his striking from such a dominant position, he'd be able to finish easier.
Mulqvist looking to control but Ripper is working nicely, looking to advance position himself.
Mulqvist breaks from Ripper's wrist control and lands an elbow.
Mulqvist throws an elbow from mount that misses. Lucky escape for Ripper because Mulqvist loaded up on that one.

Mulqvist throws some wild stikes that Ripper manages to avoid easily.
Ripper avoids a series of strikes thrown by Mulqvist.
Mulqvist sends his fist crashing into the mat - the crowd let out a collective ooooooh. Let's hope he's not broken it!

Mulqvist is in a good position here but he's just trying to control... And he's not even managing to do that successfully.
Mulqvist has the superior BJJ but he's also working some ground strikes into his gameplan.

Mulqvist throws a wild left hand from mount and Ripper manages to wriggle his way back to half guard.
Mulqvist missing with some ground and pound from the half guard.
Mulqvist is looking to advance position but Ripper won't allow it.
The crowd thankful this round is nearly over.

The referee has ruled that neither fighter is active enough on the ground and has stood them back up.
Ripper throws a leg kick that is checked
and Mulqvist counters with a crisp hook to the side of the head.
Mulqvist throws a right and a left that both miss.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Harri Mulqvist showed his class in that round. I'd imagine he'll take it on all the scorecards.
That's time! Ripper's corner gives him a slap on the ass as he gets ready to fight. This is the final round!

Mulqvist ducks under a wild hook from Ripper.

Ripper throws a hook to the body but it doesn't connect.
Mulqvist throws a head kick that misses and slips in the process. He scrambles back to his feet and the fighters circle.

Ripper effectively controlling the action here.
Mulqvist is trying to slow down the pace in the clinch, to catch his breath.
Mulqvist lands a short shot on the inside that snaps the head of Ripper backwards.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.

Mulqvist is working on a single leg takedown against the cage. Ripper can't fight it off and eventually Mulqvist manages to take the fight to the floor. Ripper looks annoyed but at least he's managed to land in guard.
Ripper utilising some decent striking defenses from the guard, preventing the ground and pound.

Mulqvist passes easily into side control. Nice work.
Mulqvist throws an elbow but Ripper slips to the side and avoids it well.
Ripper tries to get back to his feet but has found himself mounted instead. Damn, that's gotta suck.

Mulqvist is working for a guillotine from mount but Ripper frees his head quite easily.

There's not a lot going on here and the crowd are letting the fighters know they're not willing to tolerate a lack of action.
Ripper is in a horrible position here. Mulqvist smacks him with another shot as he tries to escape the position.

Ripper wants to try and get back to his feet.
Mulqvist looking to finish Ripper with some ground and pound. This is bad for Ripper!

Mulqvist wants to control but Ripper has made it back to half guard. Nice work.
Ripper avoiding damage under a succession of punches from Mulqvist.
Ripper is not content to let Mulqvist control the position.
Mulqvist trying to mount his opponent but Ripper defends it.

Neither fighter has done anything of merit for a good minute or two here and the crowd are not happy about it.

Mulqvist is working for a submission of some sort.

Mulqvist is thinking about going for an arm triangle but he can't free his leg.
Mulqvist winds up and cracks Ripper with a swinging punch to the side of the head.

And that's the end of the fight!
Harri Mulqvist comfortably won the final round on my scorecard.
I think Mulqvist has won this one but let's see whether the judges agree with me. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
