Coming up we have a welterweight MMA rules bout between Aoki Funkyama (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Jonathan Hawkes (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Chooooooooon! I think Funkyama might be my favorite fighter, now he's come out to Eazy E - Still cruisin. Well, the cameraman is lingering on a pretty young lady for a bit too long there. Keep your eyes on the fighters buddy or you'll miss the fighter intros!

Introducing the champion to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 4 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Tokyo, Aoki Funkyama!
And introducing the challenger to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 8 - 7 - 0, fighting out of Tokyo, Jonathan Hawkes!
The judges for this bout are Shirou Masuda, Yukihiro Shimada and Sosuke Kotani.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Funkyama fails with a takedown attempt.
Jonathan Hawkes seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.
Hawkes defending well as Funkyama loads up on a big left hand.
Funkyama closes the distance and clinches up with Hawkes, looking for a takedown. Funkyama pushes Hawkes against the cage but Hawkes circles to the side and manages to break the clinch.

We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Hawkes fakes high and swings low for a body shot but Funkyama manages to avoid it.

Both fighters circling a little - Hawkes finishes the exchange with a kick to the body.
Funkyama has his front leg slapped to the side - a nice low kick landing there from Hawkes.
A telegraphed takedown attempt from Funkyama is defended easily by Hawkes.

Hawkes throws a jab to the body, straight down the pipe. Boom. That sent Funkyama stumbling backwards but he manages to regain his composure quickly.

This is a great period of action - very entertaining stuff!

Neither fighter has done anything of merit for a good minute or two here and the crowd are not happy about it.

Funkyama has hold of the far side arm. He's working for the Kimura, can Hawkes defend it? Funkyama steps over the head and cranks it - Hawkes is tapping out! That was textbook stuff right there - nice submission victory for Funkyama!
