Coming up we have a lightweight MMA rules bout between Josh Cowen (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Mabishiro Sakamoto (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Both fighters look fresh as a daisy as they make their way towards the cage.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the lightweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 1 - 0 - 0, fighting out of New York, Josh Cowen!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 3 - 22 - 0, fighting out of New York, Mabishiro Sakamoto!
The judges for this bout are John Roberts, Steve Montenegro and Chad Campbell.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!

Cowen looks for a takedown. He's got it. We're now in half guard.
Sakamoto tries to get to full guard but Cowen has control of the leg.

Cowen's ground tactics aren't going to win him many fans. Let's hope he's got fireworks for us if he gets back to his feet because he's not doing much on the ground.

Cowen knows he needs to get back to his feet asap. He's simply no match for Sakamoto on the ground.

The crowd are starting to boo a lack of action.
Cowen throwing shots but Sakamoto is blocking nicely.

Sakamoto gets taken down but at least he's managed to land in guard.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.

Sakamoto has his feet on Cowen's hips. He pushes off and gets to his feet. Nice work.

Cowen bobs and weaves into range and then changes levels and scores with a nice takedown into side control.

Cowen is thwarting Sakamoto's attempts to control the position.

Cowen tries to stand but can't do so whilst Sakamoto controls his leg.

The referee calls time. The cornermen exit stage left and we're back to business.


Sakamoto fails with an attempt to clinch.
Sakamoto tries a switch kick but it misses it's target.

Cowen looks for a takedown. He's got it. We're now in half guard.
Cowen wants to pass the guard but Sakamoto is defending well.
Sakamoto has no desire to be mounted, so is trying to control. Cowen is working away from the top position though.
Cowen prevents Sakamoto from improving his position.

Sakamoto wants to control but Cowen is keeping busy.
Sakamoto is breathing heavily.
Sakamoto wants to stand back up but Cowen manages to pass into side control.
Cowen works a knee to the body and follows up with a nice elbow to the head.
Sakamoto is looking for a sweep.
Cowen content to control the pace. The referee will try and keep them active though.

The crowd are starting to boo a lack of action.
Sakamoto is looking for a sweep.

Cowen decides to stand back up. Cowen steps back and let's Sakamoto get back to his feet.

and Cowen counters with a shoot takedown into half guard.

Cowen moves nicely into side control.
Josh Cowen overall seems to be getting the better of the ground position in the fight so far.

Sakamoto wants to control but Cowen postures up.

Cowen decides to stand back up. Cowen steps back and let's Sakamoto get back to his feet.

Cowen shoots in looking for a single leg takedown. Sakamoto is trying to defend but Cowen finishes it well and ends up in half guard. Let's see if he can advance position further.
The fans in attendance giving it up for the two fighters, who have really let it all hang out in the last minute or so!
Sakamoto wants to get back to full guard.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

The minute break is over - no more time for sponges and pep talks - back to the action! Ladies and gentlemen, this is the final round!



Cowen changes levels and drives through with a really nice takedown into side control. Sakamoto looks really pissed at himself for not defending that better.
Sakamoto tries to improve position but can't.
Sakamoto is working to avoid the ground and pound but Cowen connects with a decent elbow.
Cowen is looking to take a break and control but Sakamoto is keeping him honest, looking to work from the bottom.
Cowen is really struggling to control Sakamoto but he's trying to hold on to the position.
You can see the frustration on Sakamoto's face, being in this tough position on the bottom.
Both fighters are breathing heavily.

Cowen just content to control the position.

The referee decides to stand the fighters back up, due to lack of activity on the part of Josh Cowen.

Cowen shoots in with a lovely double leg takedown. Sakamoto manages to land in full guard to minimise the damage.

Cowen is frustrating his opponent with some stalling tactics from top position.
Cowen has controlled the position for a good 20 seconds, which will no doubt be starting to frustrate his opponent.

A real slowdown in the pace of the fight for a moment, as Sakamoto holds on and takes a little breather.
Sakamoto is trying to stand up but he's not managed so far.
Sakamoto can't keep his opponent in guard - Cowen advances to half guard, no doubt looking to mount.
Sakamoto keeps control of the position for the meantime.
Cowen prevents Sakamoto from improving his position.

That's four minutes gone in the round.
There's not a lot going on here and the crowd are letting the fighters know they're not willing to tolerate a lack of action.

Sakamoto tries to kick Cowen off but Cowen keeps his base steady and stays in half guard.
Cowen takes a deep breath and rests his weight momentarily on top of his opponent, to control the position.
The crowd thankful this round is nearly over.
Mabishiro Sakamoto has stepped it up - he knows he needs a finish here!
Josh Cowen is fighting for a decision here - he's started to take the cautious approach.

Josh Cowen showed his dominance in that final round.
Well Cowen has outscored his opponent in every aspect of the fight today. Only a scarily incompetent judge or two will keep him from a well deserved win... Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
