PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a lightweight MMA rules bout between George Foot (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Matt Huggs (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Huggs has a pretty significant injury - he really shouldn't be fighting right now but he's a warrior and he's here none the less! Matt Huggs told me before the fight that he's been watching a lot of DVDs so let's see if that helps him in this one! I can't wait to find out!

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the lightweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.

And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.

The bell rings for round one and we are underway!

Foot clinches up against the cage.
Huggs looks gassed!

Foot jumps guard.
Huggs won't allow Foot to sweep him here.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
Foot is working the butterfly guard. He manages to land a nice scissor sweep and is now in half guard on the top. Nice move.
Foot is controlling the pace.
Foot drops an elbow to the side of Huggs's head.
Foot slows the pace down in half guard.
Foot seems very keen to just sit and control from half guard but Huggs does not like that idea so much and is remaining active off his back.
Nice strikes from Foot there.

Foot is looking for a kimura here.

Foot is working for submissions here but there's nothing on.

Foot is nestled in close to Huggs, controlling him well. He's worked in a nice elbow to the side of the head as well, for good measure.

Foot decides to return to a standing position.
Foot closes the distance and clinches up with Huggs, looking for a takedown. Foot pushes Huggs against the cage but Huggs circles to the side and manages to break the clinch.
Matt Huggs seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.

Huggs wants to control but Foot is having none of it.
Foot lands with some vicious ground and pound - can Huggs hang on?
Huggs is desperately trying to get back to half guard.

The fans in attendance giving it up for the two fighters, who have really let it all hang out in the last minute or so!

Foot manages to break the clinch.

Foot clinches up with Huggs and pushes him back against the cage.
Foot lands a knee to the head there! That was nasty!

Foot gets a warning from the ref for wasting time.

Foot closes the distance and looks for a trip takedown... aaaand he's got it - Foot lands in his opponent's guard.
The fighters are starting to get a bit slippery now, which will make submissions a bit more difficult.
Huggs being controlled here, momentarily.
Foot keeps in close for a moment and lands a decent shot to the side of Huggs's head.

Huggs keeping moving, preventing Foot from controlling successfully.

Foot not doing a lot at the moment. He'll have to show some more aggression or the fight will get stood up.
Foot seems to have a rather negative gameplan on the ground. He seems keen to just score the takedown and hold down Huggs for as long as he can get away with.

The referee decides to stand the fighters back up, due to lack of activity on the part of George Foot.
Huggs avoids the clinch attempt nicely.
Foot fakes high and shoots in for a takedown but Huggs avoids it really well and circles away.

Huggs tries to keep at a distance but Foot has taken the fight into the clinch.

Huggs is pressed up against the cage. Foot has hold of a leg and is looking to drag Huggs down to the mat. Huggs avoids the attempt though and has circled away. We're back to striking at a distance.

Huggs displays good takedown defense there as he swats away a double leg from Foot.

Foot is looking for a takedown here. He's shot in and has managed to get it, finishing up in Huggs's half guard.

Foot misses with a takedown attempt - Huggs sprawls well and throws a nice strike on the way out which just misses.

Foot shoots in from a long way out. He's driving through with the takedown attempt and he eventually gets it, landing in Huggs's guard.
Foot with a couple of shots to the head there. Not particularly brutal.

Foot gets to his feet. Huggs looking to butt scoot but the ref puts an end to that. On your feet son!
Huggs takes a jab on the nose there. A little bit of blood seems to be coming out. Hopefully that won't affect his breathing.

Foot shoots in with a lovely double leg takedown. Huggs manages to land in full guard to minimise the damage.

The two fighters exchange a few words. I couldn't hear what they were saying but maybe it's more fun if you make it up yourself. Foot connects with a nice short shot to Huggs's temple.

Foot seems to be taking a bit of a break to think of his next move. He lands a short punch in the meantime.
Foot has been looking to land a fair amount of strikes on the ground. He might be looking to soften his opponent up in order to work for a submission.

We get told so often about how wrestlers don't like to be on their backs. Let's see if Huggs can do anything to dispel that myth.

Huggs is fighting off a takedown attempt but Foot is just too persistent for him and manages to trip Huggs to the mat. Huggs regains guard as soon as the fighters hit the mat.

Matt Huggs has stepped it up - he knows he needs a finish here!

Huggs is looking to control Foot's leg but it's slowly edging free. Can Huggs avoid being mounted?

Well Foot has outscored his opponent in every aspect of the fight today. Only a scarily incompetent judge or two will keep him from a well deserved win... Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
