PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a heavyweight MMA rules bout between Joerg Roessler (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Roy Jones Sr (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Well, the cameraman is lingering on a pretty young lady for a bit too long there. Keep your eyes on the fighters buddy or you'll miss the fighter intros!

The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Roessler walks into a stiff left hand from Jones Sr.
Jones Sr lands a with a good body shot.
Roessler fails with a takedown attempt from distance.
Jones Sr blocks a head kick by Roessler.
Roessler shoots in for a takedown but doesn't get it.
Roessler takes a body punch but keeps moving.
Roessler is breathing heavily.
Roessler shoots in for a takedown but Jones Sr shows good takedown defense.

Jones Sr circles away from the clinch attempt.

Jones Sr throws a head kick that lands with a deafening thwack! The crowd roars as Roessler stumbles backwards and falls to the mat. Jones Sr follows into mount!

Roessler is rocked!

It looks like Joerg Roessler has been cut.
This has been an exciting period of action!

Jones Sr working for a submission but Roessler is keeping him at bay.
Oh Roessler is still in real trouble! Will he be able to recover?!!

Roessler slips a leg in and gets back to half guard.
Roessler is looking to regain full guard. Not this time though.
Roessler makes his way to full guard. A much better position for Roessler.
Jones Sr trying to control the position from guard on top but Roessler is wriggling around, looking for whatever he can.

Roessler has a loose triangle. He'll be looking to tighten that up but Jones Sr can see exactly what he's planning and manages to posture up and free himself.

Roessler wants to sweep here but Jones Sr controlling him for the moment.

Roessler had isolated an arm as going for an omaplata. Jones Sr is defending the submission well but is in a very vulnerable position. Roessler Is leaning forward trying to finish the omaplata but decides to abandon it, and take Jones Sr's back instead.
Jones Sr rolls, trying to escape but Roessler keeps control of the position.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.

The fighters are going at a pretty good pace and they're both starting to sweat now.
Roessler has his opponent's back and is working for the choke.
Jones Sr trying to control the position but Roessler manages to sink in the hooks.

Jones Sr is trying to avoid being dragged into an even worse position than he's already in but Roessler is staying active.

Roessler is staying calm and holding on to the back position, whilst working on a rear naked choke. Jones Sr is defending well though. Roessler let's go of the attempt for now.
Jones Sr is trying to get back to his feet but Roessler has full control of the position and if anything, Jones Sr has just worked his way into a worse spot.
Jones Sr turns into Roessler and is now in his guard.
Roessler has a closed guard, preventing Jones Sr from standing up.

Jones Sr wants to control from the top but Roessler keeps moving.

Roessler escapes his hips to the side and looks to be working for an armbar. Jones Sr gives him a little smile and shakes his head. No chance.

Roessler working from the bottom, still in full guard. He's managed to get a loose triangle. Jones Sr doesn't seem to be doing much to defend here, obviously he feels comfortable in the position. Jones Sr manages to throw the legs off his shoulder and he's back into guard - no problem.
Jones Sr wants to control from the top but Roessler keeps moving.
As the round comes to an end the crowd are showing their appreciation for a great round of action.
Jones Sr wants to pass the guard but Roessler is keeping the position.
There's a bit of a scramble here and now Roessler is on top in guard.

A close round but Roy Jones Sr will probably get the nod.

The corners get their ten second warning. Both fighters stand from their stools and stare eachother down, ready to get back to the action.

Roessler closes this distance looking for a takedown but Jones Sr circles away.

Roessler shoots in for a double leg but Jones Sr sprawls well. That's going to sap some energy.

Roessler throws a looping left and ducks down for a takedown. He's got his arms around Jones Sr's waist but Jones Sr gets an underhook and avoids the takedown by throwing Roessler off to one side.

Roessler fakes an overhand right and shoots for a takedown. Jones Sr sprawls well initially but Roessler persists and gets the takedown into half guard.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.

Roessler is looking for a kimura. It's going to be difficult to finish that from half guard though and Jones Sr defends it well.
Jones Sr is breathing heavily.
Roessler works his way into side control.

Jones Sr is looking for a sweep.
Roessler tries to advance to mount but can't.
Jones Sr tries to get back to half guard but can't.
Roessler works to advance to full mount. Jones Sr defends for a few seconds but eventually he succumbs.
Roessler will need to keep those long limbs tucked in whilst he's on the ground, to prevent any submissions.

Roessler looks like he's working for a submission but he's not found anything just yet.
