PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a heavyweight MMA rules bout between Shaun Conway (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Bongo Bongo (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Bongo is bouncing up and down as he enters the arena, backed by Bang Time. These two fighters really are very evenly matched on the feet - it will be fascinating to see who can assert themselves in that aspect of the fight.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the heavyweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 2 - 2 - 0, fighting out of London, Shaun Conway!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 6 - 9 - 0, fighting out of London, Bongo Bongo!
The judges for this bout are William Gold, Chris Edwards and James Atkins.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Conway dives in and grabs Bongo's left leg, looking for a takedown. Bongo pushes down on Conway's head and hops out.
Conway turns his hip over beautifully as he lands a nice leg kick.
Conway tries to bum rush Bongo with a series of wild strikes but Bongo uses good footwork to avoid the assault.
Conway has a takedown stuffed.
Conway misses with a half-hearted attempt at a head kick.
Conway pulls out of a head kick attempt.
Conway tries a switch kick but it misses it's target.

Conway decides to change it up a bit and drives through with a nice takedown into half guard.
Bongo wants to control but Conway is keeping busy.

Conway working over Bongo with some ground and pound. Bongo looks like he wants out of this position, which is understandable.
Conway has been looking to land a fair amount of strikes on the ground. He might be looking to soften his opponent up in order to work for a submission.
Bongo has no desire to be mounted, so is trying to control. Conway is working away from the top position though.
Conway is keen to just control but Bongo is a slippery customer.
We get told so often about how wrestlers don't like to be on their backs. Let's see if Bongo can do anything to dispel that myth.

Conway stands up from half guard... He's had enough of that ground malarky for the time being.

This is a great period of action - very entertaining stuff!

Conway tries for an arm triangle. That looks pretty tight to me. Is this one over!?! Possibly, maybe, no Conway has let go of the choke. Obviously it wasn't as tight as we thought!

Bongo throws a sloppy head kick and Conway moves out of range easily.
Horrible takedown by Conway or perhaps it was just good defense by Bongo which made him look bad.
That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Shaun Conway. That's going to take a lot out of him.

Bongo tries to clinch there but Conway circles away.

The crowd are starting to boo a lack of action.
Conway fails to land with a series of punches.
Both fighters are looking to counter, which isn't making for the most exciting fight in the world.
Bongo clinches but Conway breaks the clinch

and Conway counters with a nice double leg into half guard.

Bongo really doesn't want to stay on the ground with Conway. If he can't get it back to his feet, it's only a matter of time before he'll be tapping out.
Bongo tries to kick Conway off but Conway keeps his base steady and stays in half guard.
The crowd applaud the fighters efforts here as the round comes to an end.

Conway is looking for a kimura but he's never going to get it from there.
Bongo looks like he's trying to stand up.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

The fighters' corners scream their final instructions, as the referee calls time. Here we go, back to the action!


Bongo slips a jab and a cross from Conway.
Bongo throws a right hand that Conway ducks under and follows up with a left that Conway also avoids with ease.
Shaun Conway seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.
Conway wants to clinch.
Bongo jabs at Conway's body.
Both fighters are absolutely exhausted here.

We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Bongo circles away from the clinch attempt.
Conway throws a series of punches but Bongo avoids them all with ease.

The fighters are starting to perspire pretty heavily.

so Conway counters with a double leg into guard. Good agility.

Conway gets to his feet and steps away from his opponent.
Bongo tries for a takedown but Conway circles away easily
and Conway counters with a one-two to the body.

My god... these two guys really need to pick up the pace or everyone will leave to go get a beer.
Conway shoots in for a takedown but Bongo shows good takedown defense.

Bongo shoots in for a takedown and gets it. Oh and he's advanced to full mount straight away.
Conway tries to hold on but Bongo postures up.
Conway working to try and regain half guard.
Bongo sitting in mount, just looking to control for the moment.
Conway is writhing around trying to get back to his feet.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

That's time! Conway's corner gives him a slap on the ass as he gets ready to fight. This is the final round!

Conway closes the distance and clinches up, looking for a takedown. He shifts his weight and gets a nice trip into half guard.
Bongo is refusing to be controlled, as Conway sits in half guard.
Bongo keeping his head moving to avoid the ground and pound.

Both fighters are breathing heavily.
Bongo wants to get back to his feet.

Conway is taking a breather. Bongo says something to him but it's hard to make out. Perhaps he's telling him to get on with it and actually do something.

Conway thumps the canvas. Not on purpose obviously - he just missed Bongo's head.

Shaun Conway overall seems to be getting the better of the ground position in the fight so far.

The two fighters exchange a few words. I couldn't hear what they were saying but maybe it's more fun if you make it up yourself. Conway connects with a nice short shot to Bongo's temple.

Shaun Conway is fighting for a decision here - he's started to take the cautious approach.
The crowd thankful this round is nearly over.

Well I reckon that's a shut out for Conway, winning every round. Will the judges agree? They are the ones who matter, even if they are often depressingly incompetent. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
