PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a heavyweight MMA rules bout between Jim Pounder (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Kirby Puckett (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Pounder kept the crowd waiting but all that was forgotten when his ring entrance music started. The incomparable musical genius that is Supernatural Ass Pounder. Kirby Puckett will no doubt be trying to keep this one on the feet, where he has a distinct advantage.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the heavyweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 14 - 5 - 0, fighting out of Las Vegas, Jim Pounder!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 5 - 4 - 0, fighting out of Las Vegas, Kirby Puckett!
The judges for this bout are Wesley Smith, George Francis and Alan Glass.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
A telegraphed right hand from Puckett misses the target.
Pounder moves away from the strike by Puckett.
The crowd cheers as Pounder lands an impressive looking overhand right. Puckett doesn't seem phased though.
Puckett throws a jab when Pounder was well out of range.
Puckett throws a hard body shot but it just misses.
Puckett swings wildly with a right hand that was never going to find it's target.
Puckett looks to throw the jab but Pounder is out of range.
Pounder moves out of range as Puckett strikes.
A swing and a miss from Puckett.
Puckett throws a jab but it's blocked by Pounder.
Puckett misses with the combination.
Pounder slips a straight right by Puckett.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Pounder defending well as Puckett loads up on a big left hand.
Puckett missing with a left hand there. Pounder was out of range so wasted energy throwing that one.
Pounder misses with a hook. Puckett ducked under it nicely.
Puckett fakes high and swings low for a body shot but Pounder manages to avoid it.

That's one minute gone in the round.
Puckett just misses with a punch to the body.
Pounder steps to the side to avoid the strikes from Puckett.
Puckett misses with a body shot. Nice footwork from Pounder.
Puckett jabbing away but nothing is landing.
Puckett thows a left - swing and a miss!
A big right from Puckett misses.
Puckett throws a hook to the side of Pounder's head but Pounder sees it coming and ducks under it beautifully.
Pounder lands an overhand left. A wild punch that just about connected.
Kirby Puckett seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.
A left lands for Pounder.
Kirby Puckett is looking to keep the fight on the feet at all costs.
Puckett looks gassed!
Pounder wings a very wild body shot but it does the job and lands to the midsection.
Puckett misses with a body shot
and Pounder cracks him with a counter punch right on the button.

Pounder looking for a takedown here - he's got it.
Fantastic stuff here - a very entertaining period of action, which has drawn cheers from the crowd.
Pounder trying to land body shots but he keeps hitting the mat.
Both fighters really going for it on the ground here!
Pounder slows down the pace of the fight, as he sits in guard.
Pounder postures up and scores with a shot to the body and a follow up elbow to the head.

That's two minutes gone in the round.
Pounder is in close to Puckett's body, working some short punches and elbows.
Pounder tries to free his leg and advance position but Puckett is retaining full guard.
Hammerfist, elbow! yells Pounder's corner. There ya go! There ya go!
Pounder wants to control from the top but Puckett keeps moving.
Pounder forces his way into half guard.
Pounder is trying to control the action in half guard but Puckett is working away on the bottom, looking perhaps to get back to full guard.

Pounder looking for a kimura but he'll have to free his other leg if he wants to finish that. Perhaps he's just using it as a distraction technique.
Pounder is looking to pass the guard... He's managed it - he's now in full mount!
Puckett's corner are shouting for him to stand up but that's bad cornering - how is he meant to stand up when he's mounted? He should be looking to improve his position on the ground before trying to stand back up.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
Puckett tries to hold on but Pounder pushes him away.

That's three minutes gone in the round.
Puckett can't escape the position.

Pounder has control of Puckett's right arm, working for a kimura. It's a bit of a token attempt though and Puckett regains control of the situation pretty easily.
Pounder with a couple of short strikes.
Puckett is looking to get back to his feet - it's going to be hard from this position.
Pounder has been looking to land a fair amount of strikes on the ground. He might be looking to soften his opponent up in order to work for a submission.
Pounder trying to control but Puckett is having none of it.
Pounder won't let Puckett get back to his feet... He wants to keep the fight where it is for now.

Pounder throws some shoulder strikes here and then postures up. Oh, he's gone for an armbar! Puckett has his hands clasped together but Pounder breaks the hold and Puckett is forced to tap! This one is aaaaaaaaaaall over! That was lightning fast by Pounder!

Ladies and gentlemen, after 3:56 of round 1, we have a winner by way of Submission (Armbar). Jim Pounder!
