PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a featherweight MMA rules bout between Mike Kurr (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Sky Haven (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). On his way into the cage it seems that Mike Kurr has been attacked by a crazed fan! It looks like it might have been the just bleed guy! Luckily Mike Kurr seems to be OK! I thought that lunatic was in prison!?

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the featherweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Montreal, Mike Kurr!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 0 - 1 - 0, fighting out of Montreal, Sky Haven!
The judges for this bout are Yves DeLean, Gregory Folan and Steve Smith.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Kurr stuffs the takedown.

Excellent takedown into side control there by Kurr.
Kurr postures up a little and throws a couple of hammerfists but they don't connect properly.
Haven is pushing Kurr's head away, looking to escape. Kurr manages to hold on to the position though.
Kurr is looking to take a break and control but Haven is keeping him honest, looking to work from the bottom.
Kurr grinds an elbow into Haven's temple.
Haven is looking to regain half guard here but Kurr keeps moving and retains side control.
Haven is moving his hips around well on the bottom and has managed to get back to half guard.
Kurr stalling.

Haven is trying to control the position but Kurr postures up.
Haven is working an open guard here, looking to improve his position. No doubt that will leave him open to counters but at least he's being more offensive.

Haven looking for submissions from the bottom here. Moving his hips around, possibly looking for an armbar.

Kurr drops back for a leg! It's a sloppy attempt though and Kurr jumps back into guard quickly, to retain the dominant position.
Kurr's corner is telling him to maintain position.

A few boos can be heard. I'm sure they will multiply if the fighters don't pick up the pace.

The referee decides to stand the fighters back up.
Haven showing good head movement there, avoiding the strikes from Kurr.
Kurr misses with the combination.
Kurr really does look like a pencil wearing a pair of gloves. Let's hope he has a gameplan to suit that ridiculous body shape.
Haven throws a combination but it was largely blocked by Kurr.
Kurr tests Haven's chin there with a solid looking shot.
Kurr tries to clinch up but Haven circles away and keeps his distance.
Kurr is looking to clinch but Haven is avoiding it.

and Kurr connects with a straight left hand counter down the middle.
Haven lands with a thumping leg kick.

Sky Haven seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.

Haven throws a jab, cross combination which is slipped

and Kurr decides to take the opportunity to score a takedown. He's landed in Haven's guard.
Kurr looking to control the position here, rather than advance.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
Haven lands a couple of decent looking body shots there.
Haven is working an open guard here, looking to improve his position. No doubt that will leave him open to counters but at least he's being more offensive.

Haven manages to land a sweep and now he's in mount on top!
Kurr tries to get back to half guard but can't.

and Kurr holds on and brings the fighters into a clinch.

Kurr turns his hips and lands a very nice judo throw into side control!
The crowd are loving this. Great action here.
Haven wants to get back to his feet.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Kurr moves into range and clinches up with Haven.

Haven's corner calls for him to break the clinch, which he does.
Kurr throws a two punch combo that lands nicely.
Haven on the wrong end of a decent looking cross there.
Kurr throws a right hand that Haven ducks under and follows up with a left that Haven also avoids with ease.

Kurr has a body lock and is looking for a takedown. Haven is bouncing around trying to prevent the takedown and somehow he has indeed managed to stay on his feet.
Haven is trying to stall.
Both fighters are absolutely exhausted here.

Kurr is thinking about going for an arm triangle but he can't free his leg.
Kurr misses with a head shot. Haven uses the momentum to regain guard.
Kurr is fighting to break Haven's control of his arms but Haven is doing a good job of controlling the position at the moment.

Haven manages to escape and get back to his feet.
Haven has his takedown stuffed
and Kurr counters with a big head kick but Haven shrugs it off.

Kurr finds nothing but air with that leg kick attempt.
Kurr moving in and out of range nicely, whilst landing the scoring shot.
Kurr tries to clinch but Haven moves out of range.

Haven is trying hard to land a takedown here. Kurr sprawls well and keeps this one on the feet.

Kurr shoots in and scores a nice double leg takedown into half guard.

Kurr stays in close to Haven's body and controls the position.

Mike Kurr overall seems to be getting the better of the ground position in the fight so far.

The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
Kurr has controlled the position for a good 20 seconds, which will no doubt be starting to frustrate his opponent.

Haven manages to escape and get back to his feet.
Haven misses with a takedown attempt
and Kurr counters with a low kick, right behind Haven 's knee.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

That's the end of the interval. I'm sure that seemed a lot quicker than a minute for our two fighters! Back to the action. This is the final round!


Haven keeps the fight standing with a nice sprawl.

Haven is looking for a sweep. Kurr is wise to his cunning plan and keeps the top position.
Kurr seems content to maintain position for now, rather than mounting any offense.

and Kurr counters with a crisp hook to the side of the head.
Kurr displays good takedown defense there as he swats away a double leg from Haven.

Kurr throws the overhand right but ducks down into a quick takedown attempt. Haven was covering up waiting for the punch and Kurr finishes the takedown easily into guard.
Haven is striking from the bottom but Kurr uses the opportunity to pass into half guard.

The fighters are battling for position here. Haven manages to regain full guard. Nice work.
Haven looking to sweep here. No luck so far.
Kurr slows down the pace of the fight, as he sits in guard.
Haven keeping moving, preventing Kurr from controlling successfully.

Haven has a loose triangle. He'll be looking to tighten that up but Kurr can see exactly what he's planning and manages to posture up and free himself.

Mike Kurr showed his dominance in that final round.
Well Kurr has outscored his opponent in every aspect of the fight today. Only a scarily incompetent judge or two will keep him from a well deserved win... Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
