PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a welterweight MMA rules bout between Doug Robertson (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Bryan Baker (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). The atmosphere really building for this one as we go over to our ring announcer for the fighter introductions!

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the welterweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 6 - 1 - 0, fighting out of Amsterdam, Doug Robertson!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 7 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Amsterdam, Bryan Baker!
The judges for this bout are Daniel Blasius, Aafke Stam and Patrick Alders.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Baker uses decent footwork to sidestep a right hand from Robertson.
Robertson misses with a jab, cross combination.
Robertson scores with a one two! Baker had his feet all tangled up there and couldn't avoid the strikes.


It looks like Bryan Baker has been cut.
Baker closes this distance looking for a takedown but Robertson circles away.
No joy there for Robertson, who threw a few shots but didn't land.
Baker shoots in for a takedown - he's clinched up with Robertson but Robertson pushes him off and we're back to square one.

Baker drives through with a takedown into guard.
Robertson looking to sweep here. No luck so far.
Baker passes into half guard.
Robertson is trying to get back to full guard.
Robertson won't allow Baker to pass to mount.
Baker passes to full mount!
Baker fails to advance to Robertson's back.
Baker scores with a couple of good head shots there.

Robertson is desperately trying to get back to half guard.

Baker is going oldschool here, as he tries to force Robertson to tap using a forearm choke. This isn't 1993 though, so Robertson shrugs it off.

Baker goes for an armbar but he's fallen flat on his backside there and now Robertson is on top in guard.
Robertson scores with a decent looking elbow strike.
Robertson throws a big right hand that misses.
Robertson wants to control from the top but Baker keeps moving.
Robertson lands a nice shot whilst sitting in his opponent's guard.
Baker wants to control here, rather than go for any submissions from the bottom. At least for now.
Robertson is looking to work some ground and pound but Baker has wrist control.

Baker is trying to control the position but Robertson postures up.
The fighters are starting to get a bit slippery now, which will make submissions a bit more difficult.
Baker wants to sweep but no luck.

Baker looking for a guillotine here but Robertson defends easily.
Baker wants to control here, rather than go for any submissions from the bottom. At least for now.
Robertson wants to stand but Baker is controlling his posture from full guard.
Baker controlling the position.
Robertson wants to pass the guard but Baker is keeping the position.

There's a bit of a scramble here and now Baker is on top in guard.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
Robertson looking to hit a scissor sweep but Baker is one step ahead there.

Robertson wants to get back to his feet but Baker is in a dominant position and won't allow it.
Baker wants to control from the top but Robertson keeps moving.
Baker pressing down on his opponent's thigh, looking to pass guard. Robertson is keeping the position for now.
Robertson is controlling Baker's posture.
Robertson is working an open guard here, looking to improve his position. No doubt that will leave him open to counters but at least he's being more offensive.
Baker wants to pass the guard but Robertson is keeping the position.

The crowd are getting on the fighters' backs, as the pace has dropped off in the last minute or so.
Baker stopping the sweep attempt from Robertson.

Neither fighter is doing enough for the referee's liking and he's decided to stand them back up.
Baker lands a lovely overhand right.
Doug Robertson is looking to keep the fight on the feet at all costs.

Baker scores with a nice takedown into half guard. Let's see what he's got on the ground.
Robertson pushes Baker off looking to stand but Baker dives back in and keeps control.
Robertson is trying to maintain the position but Baker is very close to passing his half guard.
Baker not doing much here.
Baker working to pass to mount. He's got his hand pressing down on Robertson's thigh. Robertson counters though and makes it back to full guard.
Robertson tries to land a sweep but no joy.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

A close round but Bryan Baker will probably get the nod.
The cut man is working on Bryan Baker's cut.
That's the end of the interval. I'm sure that seemed a lot quicker than a minute for our two fighters! Back to the action.


Robertson misses with a body shot. Nice footwork from Baker.
Robertson fails in his attempt to clinch.
Robertson connects with a nice looking jab.
Robertson avoids a lazy jab quite easily.
Baker shoots in for a takedown. He's persisting with it as Robertson sprawls well. Robertson wins this battle and keeps the fight standing. Baker gets slowly back to his feet.

Baker shoots in looking for a single leg takedown. Robertson is trying to defend but Baker finishes it well and ends up in half guard. Let's see if he can advance position further.
Baker trying to control the action but Robertson is working from the bottom.

Baker is trying for a guillotine from the top but the pressure isn't in the right place so Robertson is just riding it out for now. Baker eventually gives up the hold.
Robertson tries to roll over but Baker keeps him under control.

Robertson is refusing to be controlled, as Baker sits in half guard.
Baker is in a good position here but he's just trying to control... And he's not even managing to do that successfully.
Baker might have to switch it up a bit here because his efforts to control Robertson kaven't been going to plan, at least at the current moment in time.

Robertson is looking to regain full guard. Not this time though.

The referee decides to stand the fighters back up.
Baker ducks under a wild hook from Robertson.
Robertson throws an uppercut from half a mile away. Baker sees it coming and avoids it easily.
Robertson throws a head kick that misses.
Robertson misses with the combination.

That's two minutes gone in the round.
The crowd are starting to boo a lack of action.
Baker will need to tighten up his combinations if he doesn't want to gas himself out, swinging at thin air.
Robertson pulls out of a head kick attempt.
Robertson bobs and weaves and throws out a fast jab that snaps Baker's head backwards.
Robertson misses with a hook.
Robertson tries a switch kick but it misses it's target.
Robertson thows a left - swing and a miss!
Both fighters are absolutely exhausted here.

Baker bobs and weaves into range and then changes levels and scores with a nice takedown into side control.
Baker is looking to take a break and control but Robertson is keeping him honest, looking to work from the bottom.
Baker tries to move to mount but Robertson blocks the move with his legs.
Baker in side control, throwing shots but Robertson defends.

Baker tries for a kimura. Not really close to a finish though.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
Robertson can't do much from the bottom here.

Baker tries to advance to mount but Robertson denies him.
Robertson tries to buck Baker off but Baker is having none of it.

Baker swings around for an armbar but Robertson sees it coming a mile off and turns beautifully into Baker's guard.

Baker is throwing his legs up, looking for submissions. Robertson is aware though and is defending well.
Robertson trying to land body shots but he keeps hitting the mat.
Robertson missing there with some ground and pound from the guard.
Robertson sneaks a leg through and gets to half guard. That was like a knife through butter how easily he passed Baker's guard.
Baker makes his way to full guard. A much better position for Baker.

Baker looking to try and escape his hips here, looking for a submission. It looks like he's going for a triangle but Robertson is defending well. Baker quickly switches to an armbar and extends the arm! Robertson has no choice but to tap, to a very quick submission! Wow, that was lightning fast! Baker celebrates on the cage, with the crowd.

Ladies and gentlemen, after 4:04 of round 2, we have a winner by way of Submission (Armbar). Bryan Baker!
