Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the light heavyweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 1 - 2 - 0, fighting out of Amsterdam, Dennis Rhl!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 1 - 5 - 0, fighting out of Amsterdam, johan granit!
The judges for this bout are Patrick Alders, Aafke Stam and Daniel Blasius.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Rhl circles away from the clinch attempt.
granit looks really tired already! That doesn't bode well for a good, competitive fight!
Rhl looks to clinch

and granit counters with a shoot takedown into half guard.
Rhl gets full guard.
Rhl pulls granit in close to his closed guard and prevents granit from doing any damage or advancing position.
The fighters are tangled up in the ropes here. We might need a restart if the fighters can't break free themselves.

Rhl has a loose triangle. He'll be looking to tighten that up but granit can see exactly what he's planning and manages to posture up and free himself.
granit is fighting to break Rhl's control of his arms but Rhl is doing a good job of controlling the position at the moment.

We're going to have a standup here because Dennis Rhl wasn't active enough for the referee's liking.
Rhl stuffs a takedown. It's all about dictating where the fight takes place and Rhl wants it to stay on the feet.

Rhl lands a vicious shot with the stealth of a sniper and the strength of a viper. Are vipers that strong? I can think of lots of things that are stronger than a viper - not many rhyme with sniper though.


It looks like johan granit has been cut.
johan granit seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.

and granit counters with a shoot takedown. Rhl fights it but they end up in guard.
This is a great period of action - very entertaining stuff!
granit won't allow Rhl to sweep him here.

Rhl lands with a nice combination. granit backs away looking to recover.
Rhl throws a combination but comes up with nothing but fresh air.

Rhl closes the distance and clinches.
Rhl is looking to break free of the clinch but granit has double underhooks.
Rhl has had enough of the clinch but granit keeps him there for the moment.
Rhl wants to strike at distance but he can't break free of the clinch.

A few boos can be heard. I'm sure they will multiply if the fighters don't pick up the pace.
Rhl throws a vicious knee straight up the middle but granit blocks it with crossed arms.
granit tries a knee to the head but he's missed.
granit fails to pull guard.
Dennis Rhl has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of johan granit.
Kneeeeees! The crowd are calling for knees to the body. Rhl obliges.
granit keeps the fight in the clinch, despite Rhl's efforts to push away.
Rhl misses with a knee to the head.
Rhl wants to break the clinch but can't.
granit taking a breather.
Rhl crunches a lovely knee into granit's ribcage.
granit is working hard here but doesn't seem to be able to control effectively, up against the ropes.
Rhl looks like he'd prefer to be striking at range right now.

Rhl breaks the clinch and we're back to striking at distance.

As the round comes to an end the crowd are showing their appreciation for a great round of action.
granit throws a sloppy head kick
and Rhl counters with a flying knee. Nice.


That has opened up johan granit's cut even more.
granit is looking to take this fight into the clinch.
Rhl lands with a kick to the temple. granit shrugs as if to say "is that all you've got?"
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Rhl's corner calls for him to break the clinch, which he does.
Rhl lands with a head kick! That's gotta hurt.

Rhl lands a left and a right that send granit crashing to the mat, dazed. Rhl thinks about following him to the mat but decides to wave him back up to his feet!

The crowd are loving this. Great action here.
Rhl throws a head kick but granit moves out of range.
granit is still on wobbly legs! Can Rhl finish him?
Rhl drops granit with a straight left! Oh this is bad for granit! Rhl dives in and starts dropping bombs - the referee has no choice but to step in and save him!
