PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a lightweight MMA rules bout between Brain Edwards (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Geowanny Velasco (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). These two fighters really are very evenly matched on the feet - it will be fascinating to see who can assert themselves in that aspect of the fight.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the lightweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.

And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.

The judges for this bout are Gregory Folan, William Peck and Alec Ball.

The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
A looping hook to the body misses from Velasco. Edwards does a little dance to reset his feet.
Edwards throws a head kick that misses.
Edwards showing good head movement there, avoiding the strikes from Velasco.
A nice leg kick lands there from Edwards.
Edwards is looking to clinch.
Edwards tries to close the distance and clinch but Velasco swats him to one side with an open hand palm strike and circles away.
Edwards tries to clinch up but Velasco circles away and keeps his distance.
Edwards doesn't manage to clinch there - Velasco circles away.
Velasco will need to tighten up his combinations if he doesn't want to gas himself out, swinging at thin air.
Velasco throws a shot to the body.
Edwards lands with a nice body kick.
Edwards throws a right hand that Velasco ducks under and follows up with a left that Velasco also avoids with ease.
Edwards takes a solid shot to the body. That one hurt him but he's trying not to show it.
Velasco throws a hook to the side of Edwards's head but Edwards sees it coming and ducks under it beautifully.
Velasco swings wildly with a couple of big hooks
and Edwards counters with a low kick, right behind Velasco 's knee.

Horrible takedown by Velasco or perhaps it was just good defense by Edwards which made him look bad.
Edwards wants to clinch.
Edwards moves in looking to clinch but Velasco pushes him off.

Velasco shoots in with a lovely double leg takedown. Edwards manages to land in full guard to minimise the damage.
Edwards wants to sweep but no luck.
Edwards working a defensive guard but Velasco manages to pass into side control anyway.
Edwards gets one leg under and gets the fight to half guard.

The two fighters exchange a few words. I couldn't hear what they were saying but maybe it's more fun if you make it up yourself. Velasco connects with a nice short shot to Edwards's temple.
Velasco wants to lay and pray for a moment but Edwards keeps working.
Velasco thows a huge punch but Edwards dodges it nicely.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
Edwards is pressing down on Velasco's left leg trying to get back to full guard. He's managed it.
Edwards tries to land a sweep but no joy.
Velasco with a flurry of punches that miss.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
Velasco works over Edwards with some ground and pound from guard.
Edwards is breathing heavily.
Velasco landing some decent shots from guard.
Velasco trying to pass the guard but can't manage it just yet.

Edwards has momentary wrist control but Velasco slips an elbow through the middle.
Velasco with a couple of shots to the head there. Not particularly brutal.
Velasco loading up with the ground and pound but he's missing more than he's landing in this flurry.

Velasco stands over his opponent and dives in with a flying punch! Edwards throws up his legs and catches Velasco in a triangle! Oh this looks tight! Velasco tries to escape but he's forced to tap! Wow, fantastic work there by Edwards! That came out of nowhere!
