PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a featherweight MMA rules bout between Travis Jones (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Mikhail Kalashnikov (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Jones's entrance music is Social Suicide. A fine choice. Well, the cameraman is lingering on a pretty young lady for a bit too long there. Keep your eyes on the fighters buddy or you'll miss the fighter intros!

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the featherweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 1 - 2 - 0, fighting out of Tokyo, Travis Jones!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Tokyo, Mikhail Kalashnikov!
The judges for this bout are Yasuomi Hirokawa, Shirou Masuda and Sosuke Kotani.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Kalashnikov tests Jones's chin there with a solid looking shot.
Jones throws a right high kick that is partially blocked by Kalashnikov.
Kalashnikov misses with a wild combination.
Kalashnikov throws a series of punches but Jones moves out of range.
Kalashnikov misses with a few strikes there.
Jones really does look like a pencil wearing a pair of gloves. Let's hope he has a gameplan to suit that ridiculous body shape.
Kalashnikov misses with a jab, cross combination.
Kalashnikov rushes forward with a series of wild hooks but Jones moves out of range and avoids them all easily.
Jones on the wrong end of a nice jab.
Kalashnikov throws an uppercut from half a mile away. Jones sees it coming and avoids it easily.
Kalashnikov keeps the fight standing with a nice sprawl.

Mikhail Kalashnikov is looking to keep the fight on the feet at all costs.

Kalashnikov throws a looping overhand right but Jones ducks down to avoid it.
Kalashnikov throws a hook but Jones blocks it.
Mikhail Kalashnikov seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.

Jones moves into the clinch successfully.
Jones controlling the action here for a moment.
Jones tries to pull guard but can't drag his opponent to the mat. Kalashnikov just stands there and leans against the cage.
Jones tries to take the fight to the ground by pulling guard but can't manage it.

Kalashnikov is looking to break free of the clinch but Jones has double underhooks.
Jones is pushing Kalashnikov up against the cage, for a bit of lean and pray action. Action being used the in the loosest possible sense of the word.

Jones drives through with a really nice takedown into side control.

Jones decides to take the fight back to the feet.
The crowd cheering loudly, showing their appreciation for the quality fight we're seeing here.
Kalashnikov tries to score with a low kick but Jones moves his leg out of the way.
A telegraphed right hand from Kalashnikov misses the target.
Kalashnikov misses with a low kick.
Kalashnikov misses with a jab and misses with a cross straight after too.
Kalashnikov throws a body punch but Jones moves out of range.
Kalashnikov fails to land with the punch combination there - jab, cross, hook, miss, miss, miss.
Kalashnikov looks gassed!

Jones shoots in for a takedown and gets it. Let's see what he's got on the mat.

Kalashnikov is working an open guard so Jones takes the opportunity to get back to his feet.

Jones decides to change it up a bit and drives through with a nice takedown into half guard.
Kalashnikov tries to get to full guard but Jones has control of the leg.

Jones wants to lay and pray for a moment but Kalashnikov keeps working.

Jones moves away from the strike by Kalashnikov.
Kalashnikov throws a wild combination but nothing lands.
Jones misses with a head kick.
Kalashnikov tries to score with an inside leg kick but telegraphs it and Jones is able to avoid easily.
Kalashnikov defends well against a solid takedown attempt from Jones.

Jones closes the distance and clinches up, looking for a takedown. He shifts his weight and gets a nice trip into half guard.

Kalashnikov actively working from the bottom here.

Jones is trying a forearm choke… I don't think that's going to do much at this level of the game.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
Both fighters are absolutely exhausted here.
Kalashnikov keeping his head moving to avoid the ground and pound.

Jones prevents Kalashnikov from improving his position.
Kalashnikov looks like he's trying to stand up.

The crowd are showing their displeasure at the lack of action as loud boos ring out around the arena.
Kalashnikov is refusing to be controlled, as Jones sits in half guard.

The referee decides to stand the fighters back up.
Jones steps to the side to avoid the strikes from Kalashnikov.
Left hook, right uppercut from Kalashnikov.
Jones fakes high and shoots in for a takedown but Kalashnikov avoids it really well and circles away.
Kalashnikov tries to bum rush Jones with a series of wild strikes but Jones uses good footwork to avoid the assault.
Kalashnikov connects with a looping left hand that seems like it dazed Jones momentarily.

Kalashnikov misses with a looping right.
Nice defenses there by Jones.

Jones closes the distance and pushes Kalashnikov back into the cage.
Kalashnikov is trying to force a seperation but Jones has the dominant position.

Jones pushes off and circles away, back to the middle of the mat.

Jones drives through with a really nice takedown into side control.
Kalashnikov tries to improve position but can't.
Kalashnikov can't do much from the bottom here.

That's four minutes gone in the round.
Kalashnikov tries to bench press Jones off him but Jones keeps the position.
Kalashnikov is persisting with the attempt to improve his position.
Jones works a knee to the body and follows up with a nice elbow to the head.
Kalashnikov is looking for a sweep.
Jones will need to keep those long limbs tucked in whilst he's on the ground, to prevent any submissions.
The crowd thankful this round is nearly over.

Neither fighter is doing enough for the referee's liking and he's decided to stand them back up.

Jones decides to change it up a bit and drives through with a nice takedown into half guard.

That's time! Jones's corner gives him a slap on the ass as he gets ready to fight. Ladies and gentlemen, this is the final round!

Kalashnikov motions for Jones to come forward. Kalashnikov throws a leg kick but it misses it's target.
Jones swings wildly with a couple of big hooks
and Kalashnikov counters with a left to the body.

Jones shoots in but no luck this time.

Jones shoots in for a takedown and gets it. Oh and he's advanced to full mount straight away.
Kalashnikov is trying desperately to improve position.
Jones tucks in and makes sure he doesn't lose the dominant position.
Jones is in the full mount, landing strikes.
Both fighters are breathing heavily.

Jones can't quite control the action as he would like just now, as Kalashnikov is looking to escape.
Kalashnikov regains half guard.
Kalashnikov is refusing to be controlled, as Jones sits in half guard.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
Jones stalling away here and it's allowed Kalashnikov to slip out his trapped foot and regain full guard.

The crowd are hurling abuse towards the fighters... You can hardly blame them though because there isn't a lot going on in the fight.
Kalashnikov looking to sweep here. No luck so far.
Kalashnikov trying to keep a closed guard but Jones is proving a slippery customer.

Kalashnikov is looking for a triangle but Jones pushes his legs off easily.
Jones throwing strikes from guard but Kalashnikov blocks nicely.
Jones throws a big right hand that misses.

Kalashnikov looking for submissions from the bottom here. Moving his hips around, possibly looking for an armbar.

Kalashnikov has a loose triangle. He'll be looking to tighten that up but Jones can see exactly what he's planning and manages to posture up and free himself.
Kalashnikov can't do much from the bottom at the moment, as Jones controls the pace.

Well. There's a bit of a lull in the action here and the crowd are starting to get restless.
Jones throwing strikes but missing.
Kalashnikov looking to hit a scissor sweep but Jones is one step ahead there.
Jones throwing strikes from guard but Kalashnikov blocks nicely.
The crowd thankful this round is nearly over.
Jones trying to control the position from guard on top but Kalashnikov is wriggling around, looking for whatever he can.

And that's the end of the fight!
Mikhail Kalashnikov comfortably won the final round on my scorecard.
I think Kalashnikov has won this one but let's see whether the judges agree with me. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
