Coming up we have a lightweight MMA rules bout between Absten Brews (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Nikolay Nechvidov (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Absten Brews could well score a knockout today. He has the power to get to Nikolay Nechvidov's chin.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the lightweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 3 - 3 - 0, fighting out of St Petersburg, Absten Brews!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 5 - 8 - 1, fighting out of St Petersburg, Nikolay Nechvidov!
The judges for this bout are Aleksei Zolotukhin, Igor Prikhodko and Illya Tyunina.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Brews shoots in for a takedown - he's clinched up with Nechvidov but Nechvidov pushes him off and we're back to square one.

Nechvidov closes the distance and clinches.
Brews prevents the takedown attempt.

Brews pushes off and circles away, back to the middle of the mat.

Nechvidov has Brews up against the cage in a clinch.

Nechvidov has picked Brews up - he's going for a ride! Nechvidov dumps his opponent to the mat with a thud and settles into half guard.

Brews is not content to let Nechvidov control the position.

Nechvidov is controlling the pace.
The referee must be thinking about standing these guys back up.

Nechvidov wants to work for an arm triangle but Brews is really keeping half guard well and defending the submission attempt.

Nechvidov seems to be taking a bit of a break to think of his next move. He lands a short punch in the meantime.

My god... these two guys really need to pick up the pace or everyone will leave to go get a beer.
Brews is trying to control but can't.

Nechvidov is looking to stall here but Brews recovers full guard.
Brews is doing well to control the posture of his opponent and prevent any damage.

Nechvidov passes Brews's right leg, so he's now in half guard.
Brews makes his way to full guard. A much better position for Brews.
Nechvidov tries to free his leg and advance position but Brews is retaining full guard.
Nechvidov wants to control from the top but Brews keeps moving.

The crowd are getting on the fighters' backs, as the pace has dropped off in the last minute or so.
Brews is working the butterfly guard. He manages to land a nice scissor sweep and is now in half guard on the top. Nice move.
Brews prevents Nechvidov from improving his position.

Brews thows a wild elbow that connects with the canvas.

That's the end of the interval. I'm sure that seemed a lot quicker than a minute for our two fighters! Back to the action.


Brews misses with a takedown attempt. He shot from a bit too far out.
Absten Brews seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.
Brews closes the distance and clinches up with Nechvidov, looking for a takedown. Brews pushes Nechvidov against the cage but Nechvidov circles to the side and manages to break the clinch.
Brews looks for a takedown here. Will he get it? Nechvidov is fending him off so far but Brews persists. Nope, Nechvidov circles away and we're back to standing.
That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Absten Brews. That's going to take a lot out of him.

Nechvidov shoots in and gets a takedown into Brews's guard.

Brews pushes Nechvidov off for just long enough to get back to his feet. Very athletic spring there.

Nechvidov changes levels and looks for a double leg takedown. Brews tries to avoid it but Nechvidov manages to keep hold of a leg and drag Brews to the ground. Brews escapes though and pops straight back up to his feet.
Nechvidov is looking to take this fight into the clinch.
Both fighters are absolutely exhausted here.

Brews is looking for a sweep. Nechvidov is wise to his cunning plan and keeps the top position.

The crowd are showing their displeasure at the lack of action as loud boos ring out around the arena.

We're going to have a standup here because Absten Brews wasn't active enough for the referee's liking.

A lull in the action here being met with boos from the crowd.
Brews has his takedown stuffed

and Nechvidov counters with a single leg into guard. Brews didn't expect that.
Brews is pulling down on Nechvidov's head. It's preventing any offense from Nechvidov, at least for the moment.
Nikolay Nechvidov has got the better of the ground game so far.
Nechvidov is taking a break and basically stalling. The referee will not allow him to do that for long.
Brews seems keen to control rather than go for a submission, at least for now.
Nechvidov controlling from the guard. I say controlling but really, he's stalling.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Nikolay Nechvidov showed his class in that round. I'd imagine he'll take it on all the scorecards.
The referee calls time. The cornermen exit stage left and we're back to business. This is the final round!

The crowd are hurling abuse towards the fighters... You can hardly blame them though because there isn't a lot going on in the fight.

Brews gets to his feet - Nechvidov follows without any prompting.

And that's the end of the fight!
That was a close round. You could make an argument for either fighter but I would give it to Absten Brews.
Well Nechvidov has outworked and out performed his opponent in all aspects of the game today. He was simply too good and the decision should be no more than a formality. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
