Coming up we have a heavyweight MMA rules bout between Dewayne Severn (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Colby Sparrow (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Dewayne Severn had a look across the cage there at his opponent. He definitely means business

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the heavyweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 1 - 1 - 0, fighting out of Los Angeles, Dewayne Severn!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 0 - 1 - 0, fighting out of Los Angeles, Colby Sparrow!
The judges for this bout are Timothy Bukovac, and Frank Antenori.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Severn is looking to take this fight into the clinch.
Severn shoots in but no luck this time.
No luck with that takedown attempt from Severn.
Sparrow lands a jab followed by a nice looking cross.
Sparrow lunges in with swinging rights and lefts but Severn circles away quickly and effectively.
Sparrow misses with a jab and misses with a cross straight after too.
Sparrow misses with a jab, cross combination.

Severn shoots in from a long way out. He's driving through with the takedown attempt and he eventually gets it, landing in Sparrow's guard.

Sparrow working from the bottom, still in full guard. He's managed to get a loose triangle. Severn doesn't seem to be doing much to defend here, obviously he feels comfortable in the position. Severn manages to throw the legs off his shoulder and he's back into guard - no problem.
This has been an exciting period of action!
Sparrow can't keep his opponent in guard - Severn advances to half guard, no doubt looking to mount.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.

Severn is working for a kimura from half guard. He's really concentrating on the hold and it's allowed Sparrow to slip a leg under and get back to full guard.

Severn has gone for a leg lock! Sparrow slips out almost immediately though and dives into Severn's guard.

Severn looking to sweep here. No luck so far.

Sparrow is trying to work a guillotine from the top, or something like that? Don't know how he thinks he's going to get a finish from there.
Severn is pulling down on Sparrow's head. It's preventing any offense from Sparrow, at least for the moment.

Severn looking for submissions from the bottom here. Moving his hips around, possibly looking for an armbar.

Sparrow drops back, looking for a kneebar! Severn looks panicked! The fighters roll across the mat, one looking to finish, one looking to escape. Severn looks to have wriggled free... Yes, he's got his leg free and he's dived into side control! Good work there from Severn!

Sparrow is not content to let Severn control the position.
Sparrow manages to get one leg in to regain half guard.

Sparrow has guillotine here! It looks pretty tight! Could this be all over! No, Severn escapes and passes into side control at the same time. Nice work there by Severn!
Sparrow sneaks a leg under to get back to half guard.

Severn is looking for a kimura but Sparrow is holding onto that half guard position, so it's hard for Severn to get the leverage.
Severn is breathing heavily.

Sparrow is looking to sinch up a guillotine here but Severn pulls his head out easily.

Severn is sneakily working for an arm triangle but Sparrow sees it coming and defends easily.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.

Sparrow looking to work for a kimura from the bottom.

Sparrow looking for submissions off his back.

Severn seems to be working for a kimura but Sparrow defends the submission attempt.
Severn trying to control the action but Sparrow is working from the bottom.

There's not a lot going on here and the crowd are letting the fighters know they're not willing to tolerate a lack of action.
Sparrow makes his way to full guard. A much better position for Sparrow.
Severn works a leg free and moves into half guard.

Severn is working for a submission of some sort.

Severn is trying to work for a kimura but Sparrow is defending well.

Sparrow is looking to sinch up a guillotine here but Severn pulls his head out easily.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Colby Sparrow dominated that round.
The corners get their ten second warning. Both fighters stand from their stools and stare eachother down, ready to get back to the action.


Severn throws a monster uppercut resembling something out of street fighter but it doesn't land.

Sparrow lands a jab followed by a vicious hook that sends Severn sprawling to the canvas. Sparrow follows him down, looking for the kill. Can Severn hang on?


It looks like Dewayne Severn has been cut.
Severn keeping control of the leg, stopping his opponent passing to mount.

Sparrow is trying for a guillotine from the top but the pressure isn't in the right place so Severn is just riding it out for now. Sparrow eventually gives up the hold.
Severn has no desire to be mounted, so is trying to control. Sparrow is working away from the top position though.
Both fighters are absolutely exhausted here.
Severn is looking to regain full guard. Not this time though.

Severn is defending against the submission attempts here by Sparrow.

Sparrow is thinking about going for an arm triangle but he can't free his leg.
Severn wants to control but Sparrow is keeping busy and won't allow it.
Severn moves his hips nicely and gets into full guard.
Sparrow looking to pass the guard.

A lull in the action here being met with boos from the crowd.

Severn has an Americana. Sparrow didn't react quickly enough there and he's in big trouble now! He tries to squirm out but is forced to tap! Severn is delighted and gyrates in front of the ring girls. They seem to like the attention - it'll be interesting to see if Severn hooks up with any of them at the after show party.

Ladies and gentlemen, after 2:30 of round 2, we have a winner by way of Submission (Americana). Dewayne Severn!
