Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the super heavyweight division.

The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
laposun closes the distance and gets a trip takedown into side control. Alves quickly recovers to half guard.
laposun wants to lay and pray for a moment but Alves keeps working.
laposun content to control rather than advance.
laposun wants to take a breather but Alves is having none of it.
Alves really doesn't want to stay on the ground with laposun. If he can't get it back to his feet, it's only a matter of time before he'll be tapping out.
laposun is working for a kimura but Alves is defending it quite comfortably.
laposun stalling away here and it's allowed Alves to slip out his trapped foot and regain full guard.

laposun has an omoplata and is looking to use it perhaps as a submission or perhaps to transition. Alves is in a bit of discomfort here, but he's managed to free himself and has dived into side control! That didn't work out too well for laposun.

The crowd are showing their displeasure at the lack of action as loud boos ring out around the arena.

Alves has had enough of the ground for now and decides to stand.

Alves throws a strike aimed at the side of laposun's head but laposun avoids it well.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
The crowd applaud the fighters efforts here as the round comes to an end.

No joy there for Alves, who threw a few shots but didn't land.

That's the end of the interval. I'm sure that seemed a lot quicker than a minute for our two fighters! Back to the action.
Alves rushes laposun and pushes him back against the cage in a clinch.
A right hook to the body lands for Alves.
Alves ties up his opponent against the cage and manages to drag the fight down to the ground. Alves no doubt will be looking to work submissions from his guard.
Alves can't do much from the bottom at the moment, as laposun controls the pace.
Alves is working an open guard here, looking to improve his position. No doubt that will leave him open to counters but at least he's being more offensive.

We've had a lack of effective grappling in the last minute or so, which could well see a referee standup.

We're going to have a standup here because Pipiro laposun wasn't active enough for the referee's liking.
laposun shoots in for a takedown but doesn't get it.
laposun shoots in for a takedown - he's clinched up with Alves but Alves pushes him off and we're back to square one.
Both fighters are absolutely exhausted here.

and Alves cracks him with a counter punch right on the button.
A big right followed by a crushing left from Alves knocks laposun out cold! Ouch - that one's going to be featured in highlight reels for years to come!
