PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a lightweight MMA rules bout between Hitoshi Masaru (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Cormac Whelan (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). The crowd seem to be enjoying Whelan's choice of entrance music: Bonny Portmore. Cormac Whelan will no doubt be trying to keep this one on the feet, where he has a distinct advantage.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the lightweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.

And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 5 - 3 - 0, fighting out of London, Cormac Whelan!
The judges for this bout are Paul Tew, Donald Grub and William Gold.

The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Masaru connects with a leg kick. He turned his hip over nicely there.
Masaru keeping a good distance there, avoiding the body shot.
Whelan scores with a hook to the body. Masaru takes a step back and tries to catch his breath.
A big left from Whelan misses.
Whelan scores with a jab to the body.
Masaru walks into a stiff left hand from Whelan.

Whelan lands a left and a right that send Masaru crashing to the mat, dazed. Whelan thinks about following him to the mat but decides to wave him back up to his feet!

Masaru is rocked!
Wooooo! Give it up for these two warriors! They are putting on a show!
Masaru throws a head kick that misses.
Oh Masaru is still all over the place! His legs are completely gone! Will he be able to recover?!!
Whelan misses with an uppercut.
Masaru seems to have got his legs back now.
Whelan pushing out the jab but it's not landing.
Whelan fakes high and swings low for a body shot but Masaru manages to avoid it.
Masaru takes a solid shot to the body. That one hurt him but he's trying not to show it.
Whelan misses with an uppercut. Masaru saw that one coming.
Whelan takes a step towards his opponent and connects with a left hand, before circling away.
Whelan bobbing and weaving, closes the distance and lands a hook to the side of Masaru's head.
Whelan connects with a body shot.
Masaru is breathing heavily.
Whelan looks to throw the jab but Masaru is out of range.
Whelan throws out a token jab with nothing on it.

That's one minute gone in the round.
Masaru tries a switch kick but it misses it's target.
Masaru keeping a good distance there, avoiding the body shot.
Whelan lands a jab to Masaru's midsection.
Whelan throws a jab to the body, straight down the pipe. Boom. That sent Masaru stumbling backwards but he manages to regain his composure quickly.
The fans in attendance giving it up for the two fighters, who have really let it all hang out in the last minute or so!
Whelan lands a nice shot to the body.

It looks like Hitoshi Masaru has been cut.
Whelan throws a hard body shot but it just misses.
Nice body punch from Whelan.
Whelan swings for the body but Masaru moves out of range.
Whelan fakes a head shot and lands one to the body.
Whelan connects with a good right hand that stumbles Masaru. Masaru circles away out of range and recomposes himself.

Whelan feints and then winds up with a huge right hand that connects perfectly and sends Masaru sprawling to the canvas! Masaru rolls over backwards and springs off the cage and manages to regain his footing - how acrobatic! Oh, he's still wobbly - can Whelan finish him?!
Whelan ducks down into range and throws a picture perfect right hook that connects with Masaru's jaw. Masaru's eyes stare off into space as he falls to the mat, out cold! Whelan does the decent thing and steps back, rather than landing any shots to his unconscious opponent.

Ladies and gentlemen, after 1:53 of round 1, we have a winner by way of KO (Punch). Cormac Whelan!
