The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Luffy shoots in for a takedown. He's persisting with it as Gaines sprawls well. Gaines wins this battle and keeps the fight standing. Luffy gets slowly back to his feet.
Luffy misses with a jab and misses with a cross straight after too.
Gaines tries to bum rush Luffy with a series of wild strikes but Luffy uses good footwork to avoid the assault.
Gaines is looking to clinch but Luffy is avoiding it.

A left and a right from Gaines both land. Nice combination.
Luffy shoots in for a double leg but Gaines sprawls well. That's going to sap some energy.
Gaines throws a good cross that connects.
Luffy throws a head kick but Gaines moves out of range.

and Luffy decides to take the opportunity to score a takedown. He's landed in Gaines's guard.
Fantastic stuff here - a very entertaining period of action, which has drawn cheers from the crowd.
Gaines wants to stand and escape but Luffy is having none of it.

Luffy thinks about going for a leg but decides against it, in order to maintain the position.

Luffy postures up as if he's going to throw some strikes but drops back for an ankle! Gaines is in big trouble! He looks ready to tap! But no, he's escaped and dives on top of Luffy, into his guard.

Luffy pushes a forearm under Gaines's chin to create some space. He's escaped his hips and pivoted quickly for an armbar! Can he extend the arm? Yes, Gaines is tapping out! Damn, that was fast!
