PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a bantamweight MMA rules bout between Marius Mauler (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Revan Gracie (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Mauler comes to the cage accompanied by WAR then PEACE. Revan Gracie will no doubt be trying to keep this one on the feet, where he has a distinct advantage.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the bantamweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.

And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 9 - 4 - 0, fighting out of Hilo, Revan Gracie!

The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Mauler looking to throw a kick but he's pulled out of it.

Gracie scores a trip takedown into side control. Nice.

Gracie looking for an arm triangle but it's way too loose to do anything.
Mauler regains half guard.
Mauler avoiding damage under a succession of punches from Gracie.
Mauler is looking for a sweep. Gracie is wise to his cunning plan and keeps the top position.

Gracie is looking for a kimura but he's never going to get it from there.

Gracie is working for submissions here but there's nothing on.
Mauler on his back here. We all know that wrestlers don't like being on their back so let's see if Mauler tries to get out of the position.

Mauler is looking for a sweep. Gracie is wise to his cunning plan and keeps the top position.
Gracie looks to land a strike but Mauler avoids it nicely and regains full guard.
Mauler manages to land a sweep and now he's in mount on top!
Mauler lands a big shot there that rocks Gracie but he's holding on and managing to survive for now.
Gracie's corner are shouting for him to stand up but that's bad cornering - how is he meant to stand up when he's mounted? He should be looking to improve his position on the ground before trying to stand back up.
Mauler lands with some strikes.
Gracie can't escape the position.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
Gracie is persisting with the attempt to improve his position.

Mauler landing strikes, looking to finish!

Mauler goes for an armbar but he's fallen flat on his backside there and now Gracie is on top in guard.

Gracie drops back, looking for a kneebar! Mauler looks panicked! The fighters roll across the mat, one looking to finish, one looking to escape. Mauler looks to have wriggled free... Yes, he's got his leg free and he's dived into side control! Good work there from Mauler!
Gracie gets one leg under and gets the fight to half guard.
Gracie wants to control but Mauler is keeping busy and won't allow it.
Gracie wants to get back to full guard.

That's three minutes gone in the round.
Mauler is taking a breather. Gracie says something to him but it's hard to make out. Perhaps he's telling him to get on with it and actually do something.
Gracie tries to roll over but Mauler keeps him under control.
The referee calls for the fighters to work.

Gracie looking for submissions off his back.
Mauler knows he needs to get back to his feet asap. He's simply no match for Gracie on the ground.
Mauler missing with some ground and pound from the half guard.
Mauler misses with a head shot. Gracie uses the momentum to regain guard.
Gracie is trying to hold Mauler in close to prevent damage but Mauler has managed to pass into half guard.

A few boos can be heard. I'm sure they will multiply if the fighters don't pick up the pace.
Mauler seems to be taking a bit of a break to think of his next move. He lands a short punch in the meantime.

Mauler is trying to control. Gracie wants to improve his position but can't escape this time.
Gracie regains full guard. Nicely done.

Gracie is looking for a triangle here but Mauler uses the submission attempt to pass into side control.
You can see the frustration on Gracie's face, being in this tough position on the bottom.

Gracie shoots in for a takedown. He's persisting with it as Mauler sprawls well. Mauler wins this battle and keeps the fight standing. Gracie gets slowly back to his feet.

Gracie feints and as Mauler raises his hands in defense, Gracie changes levels and drives through with a takedown into guard.

Gracie has gone for a leg lock! Mauler slips out almost immediately though and dives into Gracie's guard.
Mauler might be looking to lock onto one of his opponent's long limbs for a submission, whilst we're on the ground.
Mauler slows down the pace of the fight for a moment. He'll need to remain active if he doesn't want to see the fight stood back up.

Gracie bucks up whilst keeping hold of a body lock, managing to reverse the position. Now he's in top in Mauler's guard.
Gracie postures up to throw the ground and pound strikes but they don't connect.
Mauler is working an open guard here, looking to improve his position. No doubt that will leave him open to counters but at least he's being more offensive.

Gracie postures up as if he's going to throw some strikes but drops back for an ankle! Mauler is in big trouble! He looks ready to tap! But no, he's escaped and dives on top of Gracie, into his guard.

Gracie is working for a guillotine from mount but Mauler frees his head quite easily.

Mauler tries to land a sweep but no joy.
Mauler controls Gracie momentarily but Gracie frees himself.
Gracie stands up and looks to throw the legs aside to pass to side control. Mauler swivels though and keeps the full guard.

Gracie drops back looking for a heel hook - he quickly realises he's not going to get it but Mauler manages to dive on top of him before he can escape and now Gracie has Mauler in his guard.
Gracie is breathing heavily.
Mauler won't allow Gracie to sweep him here.

A lull in the action here being met with boos from the crowd.
Mauler pressing down on his opponent's thigh, looking to pass guard. Gracie is keeping the position for now.
Gracie is working the butterfly guard. He manages to land a nice scissor sweep and is now in half guard on the top. Nice move.

Gracie seems to be trying to get a kimura but instead Mauler has recovered full guard.
Mauler wants to sweep but no luck.
Mauler is avoiding any damage by keeping wrist control.
Gracie is looking to work some ground and pound but Mauler has wrist control.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

That was a close second round but I would say that Marius Mauler will probably get the nod.
That's the end of the interval. I'm sure that seemed a lot quicker than a minute for our two fighters! Back to the action. This is the final round!

We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Gracie shoots in looking for a takedown. Mauler tries to sprawl out of it but Gracie keeps driving through. The fighters are pinned against the cage. Mauler manages to get underhooks and after a bit of a struggle, circles away and we're back to standing.

Gracie jumps to the side looking to secure the arm triangle…. Ooooh, that looks tight… Mauler is gargling but he's managed to escape! Nice work there by Mauler and Gracie has given up the dominant position trying to land that submission.

Gracie goes for an armbar here - this could be all over! But no, Mauler has escaped beautifully and is now on top in side control! Oh, that's unlucky for Gracie but great work by Mauler.
Mauler is looking to take a break and control but Gracie is keeping him honest, looking to work from the bottom.

Mauler is looking for a kimura. It's going to be difficult to finish that from half guard though and Gracie defends it well.

Mauler seems content to maintain position for now, rather than mounting any offense.
Mauler has controlled the position for a good 20 seconds, which will no doubt be starting to frustrate his opponent.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
Mauler slips a nice elbow through Gracie's hands, connecting with Gracie's forehead.
The crowd thankful this round is nearly over.

Revan Gracie has stepped it up - he knows he needs a finish here!
