Coming up we have a welterweight MMA rules bout between Theodore Calvin (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Jake Tyler (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Theodore Calvin has the better chin. Will he look to stand and bang today?

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the welterweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 10 - 2 - 1, fighting out of Hilo, Theodore Calvin!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 11 - 6 - 0, fighting out of Hilo, Jake Tyler!

The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Tyler on the wrong end of a decent looking cross there.
A looping hook to the body misses from Calvin. Tyler does a little dance to reset his feet.

Tyler shoots in from a long way out. He's driving through with the takedown attempt and he eventually gets it, landing in Calvin's guard.
We could do with one of the fighters taking the initiative a bit more on the ground - they're both waiting to capitalize on a mistake.
Calvin keeping moving, preventing Tyler from controlling successfully.
Tyler stands up and looks to throw the legs aside to pass to side control. Calvin swivels though and keeps the full guard.
Tyler is just sitting in guard, looking to avoid any submissions.

Tyler not doing a lot at the moment. He'll have to show some more aggression or the fight will get stood up.

The ref stands the fighters back up. Jake Tyler was stalling too much, according to the referee.

Tyler gets the takedown into side control.
Tyler is looking to take a break and control but Calvin is keeping him honest, looking to work from the bottom.

Tyler tries for a kimura. Not really close to a finish though.
The referee tells the fighters to keep busy.

Calvin is not content to let Tyler control the position.
Tyler throwing shots but missing, from side control.

Tyler goes for an armbar! This could be all over! Wait, no, Calvin rolls with the submission and now he's on top in Tyler's guard! Nice work there by Calvin!

Calvin wanted to stand there but Tyler had control of the position.
There's a bit of a scramble here and now Tyler is on top in guard.
Tyler stands up and looks to throw the legs aside to pass to side control. Calvin swivels though and keeps the full guard.

That's four minutes gone in the round.
Well. There's a bit of a lull in the action here and the crowd are starting to get restless.
Tyler controls from within his opponent's guard.
Tyler looking to pass the guard.
The crowd thankful this round is nearly over.
Tyler trying to control but Calvin is working from the bottom.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Jake Tyler dominated that round.
That's the end of the round. The referee orders the cornermen out of the cage so we can get back down to business.


Tyler ducks under a wild hook from Calvin.
Calvin works Tyler's body with a nice hook.
Tyler shoots in looking for a takedown. Calvin tries to sprawl out of it but Tyler keeps driving through. The fighters are pinned against the cage. Calvin manages to get underhooks and after a bit of a struggle, circles away and we're back to standing.
Calvin misses the jab.
Calvin swings wildly with a right hand that was never going to find it's target.
Calvin fails to land with a series of punches.
Tyler jabbing away but nothing is landing.
Tyler slips a jab and a cross from Calvin.
Tyler misses with a wild body shot.
Tyler bobs and weaves and unloads with a good uppercut.
Calvin is moving around nicely and scores here with a single head shot.
Tyler will have to do better than that with his takedown attempts.

Tyler shoots in and scores a nice double leg takedown into half guard.
Calvin is refusing to be controlled, as Tyler sits in half guard.

Tyler tries to pass to full mount but Calvin defends it.
Calvin wants to get back to full guard.

Tyler is controlling the pace.

Tyler is looking for a kimura here.

Tyler is looking for a kimura but Calvin is holding onto that half guard position, so it's hard for Tyler to get the leverage.

Tyler looks over to his corner - he wants some instructions but his corner are not responding.
Tyler wants to control but Calvin is keeping him busy.
Tyler missing with the ground and pound from half guard.
Calvin keeping his head moving to avoid the ground and pound.
Tyler with a momentary lay and pray from half guard.

My god... these two guys really need to pick up the pace or everyone will leave to go get a beer.
Tyler is just content to waste time from the top position. Calvin takes advantage of the situation and regains full guard.
Tyler trying to control the position from guard on top but Calvin is wriggling around, looking for whatever he can.
Tyler is taking a break and basically stalling. The referee will not allow him to do that for long.

OK we're going to have a standup here. Jake Tyler hasn't been effective enough on the ground and the referee wants a restart.
Calvin throws a jab but it's blocked by Tyler.
The fighters circle momentarily. Calvin darts into range and connects with a nice straight punch.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

That was a close second round but I would say that Theodore Calvin will probably get the nod.
That's time! Back to the action! This is the final round!


Tyler fakes high and shoots in for a takedown but Calvin avoids it really well and circles away.
Theodore Calvin seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.

Excellent takedown into side control there by Tyler.
Tyler is pausing for a moment. What's he doing? It looks like he's clearing his nose. Oh dude! He's shot a load of snot all down Calvin's shoulder. That is not cool.
Tyler tries to cartwheel into mount but he doesn't manage it.
Tyler creates some space and throws a big elbow, but Calvin sees it coming and moves his head just enough to avoid the strike.
Tyler sitting in side control, looking to soften his opponent up with elbows and hammerfists but Calvin is avoiding damage well and looking to escape the position.

That's one minute gone in the round.
Tyler wants to control but Calvin is keeping him busy.
Tyler in side control, throwing shots but Calvin defends.
You can see the frustration on Calvin's face as Tyler controls the position.
Tyler's corner are shouting for him to control the position and he seems happy to oblige.

Tyler tries for an arm triangle. That looks pretty tight to me. Is this one over!?! Possibly, maybe, no Tyler has let go of the choke. Obviously it wasn't as tight as we thought!

That's two minutes gone in the round.
A lull in the action here being met with boos from the crowd.
Calvin is not content to let Tyler control the position.
Tyler controlling the position from side mount.
Tyler with the ground and pound but Calvin regains half guard under the barage of strikes.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.

That's three minutes gone in the round.
Tyler is stalling here. Calvin is in no mood to hang around though. He's locked up a kimura from the bottom! Tyler seems to be keeping calm but he's forced to roll out of the hold and Calvin has ended up in side control on the top. Nice work.
Tyler tries to get back to half guard but can't.
Tyler manages to get one leg in to regain half guard.
Tyler is pressing down on Calvin's left leg trying to get back to full guard. He's managed it.
Calvin wants to get up but he can't break Tyler's closed guard. He needs to be careful trying to break the legs open, as he's open to submissions here.

That's four minutes gone in the round.
The crowd are starting to boo a lack of action.
Tyler pulls Calvin in to control the position.
Tyler trying to keep a closed guard but Calvin is proving a slippery customer.
Tyler looking to sweep using the butterfly guard but Calvin puts pay to that idea as he passes nicely into half guard.

Calvin decides he's had enough of the ground and stands up.
Calvin throws out a loose jab but Tyler uses good head movement to avoid it.
The crowd thankful this round is nearly over.

Tyler scores a takedown into full mount!
Calvin is squirming around, avoiding Tyler's attempts to control the action.

And that's the end of the fight!
Jake Tyler comfortably won the final round on my scorecard.
I think Tyler has won this one but let's see whether the judges agree with me. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
