PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a middleweight MMA rules bout between Smashing Machine (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Jimmy Spitwater (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). I'm sure you'll be fascinated to know that I was talking to some pointless Z list celebrity before the fight and he thought that Jimmy Spitwater was going to win. Let's see if he was right.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the middleweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 3 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Sydney, Smashing Machine!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 0 - 2 - 0, fighting out of Sydney, Jimmy Spitwater!
The judges for this bout are Winston Howard, Damien Edna and Eliza Hachem.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
The fight stays on the outside here - Spitwater looks like he's thinking about clinching though.
Machine lands a right hook to the body.
Machine looks to land a combination. Spitwater sees it coming but can only parry a couple of the shots.


It looks like Jimmy Spitwater has been cut.
Machine misses with a body shot.
Jimmy Spitwater seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.
Machine closes the distance and clinches up with Spitwater, looking for a takedown. Machine pushes Spitwater against the cage but Spitwater circles to the side and manages to break the clinch.
Nice combo by Machine! Oh, that's hurt him - Spitwater falls to the canvas and Machine follows him into side control.


Spitwater is rocked!
The crowd are loving this. Great action here.

Machine tries for a kimura. Not really close to a finish though.
Spitwater is still in real trouble! Can Machine finish him?
Spitwater is not content to let Machine control the position.
Spitwater wants to control but Machine postures up.
Spitwater seems to have recovered his senses.
Machine in side control, just content to control the action for now.
Spitwater is trying to get back to half guard.

Spitwater being controlled for a moment.
Spitwater is trying to get back to half guard. He's pushing on Machine's leg. He's managed it. Nice work.
Spitwater is looking to regain full guard. Not this time though.
Machine wants to pass to mount but Spitwater is defending the position.
Spitwater tries to get to full guard but Machine has control of the leg.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
Machine takes a deep breath and rests his weight momentarily on top of his opponent, to control the position.

That's two minutes gone in the round.
The crowd are starting to boo a lack of action.

Machine seems to be trying to get a kimura but instead Spitwater has recovered full guard.
Machine wants to control from the top but Spitwater keeps moving.
Spitwater looking to hit a scissor sweep but Machine is one step ahead there.
Machine stays in close to Spitwater's body and controls the position.
Spitwater keeping moving, preventing Machine from controlling successfully.
Spitwater wants to sweep here but Machine controlling him for the moment.

That's three minutes gone in the round.

Spitwater working for a triangle but Machine defends it easily.
Spitwater looking for a sweep. Not yet Spitwater, not yet.
There's a bit of a scramble here and now Spitwater is on top in guard.
Spitwater looks gassed!
Spitwater trying to control the position from guard on top but Machine is wriggling around, looking for whatever he can.

Machine is working actively off his back, looking to secure an arm or perhaps work for a triangle.
Machine controlling the position.
Spitwater wants to pass the guard but Machine is keeping the position.

That's four minutes gone in the round.
Machine working the defensive guard well to avoid strikes from Spitwater.
Machine looking to hit a scissor sweep but Spitwater is one step ahead there.

Machine has a loose triangle. He'll be looking to tighten that up but Spitwater can see exactly what he's planning and manages to posture up and free himself.
Spitwater loading up with the ground and pound but he's missing more than he's landing in this flurry.

Well, the referee has seen enough. Neither fighter is active enough on the ground so he's stood them back up.
Spitwater throws a right high kick that is partially blocked by Machine.
Machine takes a swing at Spitwater's ribcage but misses.
Machine throws a body punch but Spitwater moves out of range.
Spitwater lands with a kick to the temple. Machine shrugs as if to say "is that all you've got?"
Machine swings wildly with a right hand that was never going to find it's target.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Smashing Machine dominated that round.
The cut man is working on Jimmy Spitwater's cut.
That's the end of the interval. I'm sure that seemed a lot quicker than a minute for our two fighters! Back to the action.


Spitwater looks for a takedown here. Will he get it? Machine is fending him off so far but Spitwater persists. Nope, Machine circles away and we're back to standing.
Machine lands a jab-cross combination.

Machine darts in and lands a nice takedown into half guard.
Machine is just sitting in half guard, waiting for something to happen.

Machine is trying a forearm choke… I don't think that's going to do much at this level of the game.
Machine is looking to pass Spitwater's guard but actually Spitwater recovers to full guard.
Spitwater keeping moving, preventing Machine from controlling successfully.
Both fighters are absolutely exhausted here.

That's one minute gone in the round.
Spitwater is working the butterfly guard. He manages to land a nice scissor sweep and is now in half guard on the top. Nice move.
Machine wants to get back to full guard.

Spitwater is working for submissions here but there's nothing on.
Machine tries to roll over but Spitwater keeps him under control.
Machine is working hard here to advance position.
Machine has no desire to be mounted, so is trying to control. Spitwater is working away from the top position though.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
Spitwater sitting in half guard, looking to land shots. Machine defending well though.

Spitwater is trying for a guillotine from the top but the pressure isn't in the right place so Machine is just riding it out for now. Spitwater eventually gives up the hold.
Machine controlling the leg, holding on to half guard.

That's two minutes gone in the round.
Neither fighter has done anything of merit for a good minute or two here and the crowd are not happy about it.

Neither fighter is doing enough for the referee's liking and he's decided to stand them back up.
The fight stays on the outside here - Spitwater looks like he's thinking about clinching though.

Spitwater drives through and clinches with Machine against the cage.
Spitwater lands a knee to the head there! That was nasty!


It looks like Smashing Machine has been cut.
Machine wants to push off and get back to the center of the mat but Spitwater has him pressed against the cage.

Spitwater breaks the clinch and we return to the middle of the mat.
Spitwater circles to his right before unloading a perfect head kick! Machine drops to the canvas, hurt badly! Spitwater follows Machine to the ground and unloads with a series of strikes that force the referee to step in and end the fight! This one is all over!

Ladies and gentlemen, after 2:45 of round 2, we have a winner by way of TKO (Strikes). Jimmy Spitwater!
