Fernandez has chosen Kanye West - Amazing (instrumental) Ft. Young Jeezy as his entrance music. Tom Haysmith has the edge in experience - let's see if he can make that count tonight.

The judges for this bout are James Glass, Donald Grub and Colin Fotheringham.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!

Fernandez changes levels and drives through with a really nice takedown into side control. Haysmith looks really pissed at himself for not defending that better.
Haysmith is looking for a sweep.
Haysmith is moving his hips around well on the bottom and has managed to get back to half guard.
Haysmith looks like he's trying to stand up.
Fernandez tries to stand but his hand is stuck under Haysmith.
Fernandez really doesn't want to stay on the ground with Haysmith. If he can't get it back to his feet, it's only a matter of time before he'll be tapping out.
Haysmith is trying is best to control the position here.
Fernandez moves into side control, avoiding the strikes from Haysmith.

Fernandez decides to stand up, so the ref orders Haysmith to his feet.
Tom Haysmith seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.

and Fernandez counters with a nice shoot takedown that brings the fighters to the ground.

The crowd are showing their displeasure at the lack of action as loud boos ring out around the arena.
Fernandez is pressed up against the cage. Haysmith has hold of a leg and is looking to drag Fernandez down to the mat. Fernandez avoids the attempt though and has circled away. We're back to striking at a distance.
Haysmith doesn't succeed with the takedown

and Fernandez counters with a nice double leg into side control. Haysmith won't be happy with that.
That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Tom Haysmith. That's going to take a lot out of him.

Haysmith gets one leg under and gets the fight to half guard.
Haysmith is pressing down on Fernandez's left leg trying to get back to full guard. He's managed it.

Fernandez shoots in with a takedown attempt and he has Haysmith pinned against the cage. Haysmith gets the underhooks and manages to circle away.

Haysmith tries to pull guard but can't drag his opponent to the mat. Fernandez just stands there and leans against the cage.

My god... these two guys really need to pick up the pace or everyone will leave to go get a beer.

Fernandez takes a little breather and maintains the position. The referee will be looking for him to stay active from such a dominant position though.
Fernandez wants to control the pace but Haysmith is squirming around nicely.
The crowd thankful this round is nearly over.

Despite being in the dominant position, Sergio Fernandez just isn't active enough and the referee decides to stand the fighters back up.
Haysmith shoots in with a takedown attempt and he has Fernandez pinned against the cage. Fernandez gets the underhooks and manages to circle away.

Well Fernandez has outworked and out performed his opponent in all aspects of the game today. He was simply too good and the decision should be no more than a formality. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
