PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a welterweight MMA rules bout between JAKE REDD (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Jules Neil (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). REDD comes into the arena with We Will Rock You blaring out of the sound system. Jules Neil will no doubt be trying to keep this one on the feet, where he has a distinct advantage.

The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Neil stuffs the takedown attempt from REDD. REDD gets slowly back to his feet.
Neil is looking to clinch.
Nice takedown defense from Neil. No joy for REDD on that attempt.
REDD throws a looping left and ducks down for a takedown. He's got his arms around Neil's waist but Neil gets an underhook and avoids the takedown by throwing REDD off to one side.

REDD wants to work for an arm triangle but Neil is really keeping half guard well and defending the submission attempt.

REDD is trying to work for a kimura. He's got his hands clasped together - this could be trouble! No, Neil has managed to free his arm - good work.
REDD is breathing heavily.
REDD thows a huge punch but Neil dodges it nicely.
REDD is pressing down on Neil's thigh, looking to free his foot. Neil is holding on for now.
Neil is looking to control REDD's leg but it's slowly edging free. Can Neil avoid being mounted?

The referee decides to stand the fighters back up.
REDD shoots in for a takedown but doesn't get it.

Neil tries to close the distance and clinch up against the cage but REDD paws at him with a jab and circles away.

A few boos can be heard. I'm sure they will multiply if the fighters don't pick up the pace.
REDD closes this distance looking for a takedown but Neil circles away.
Neil misses with a jab and misses with a cross straight after too.
Neil wants to clinch.
Neil moves in looking to clinch but REDD pushes him off.

REDD shoots in for a takedown and gets it. Let's see what he's got on the mat.
REDD won't allow Neil to sweep him here.
Neil has a closed guard, preventing anything of note from happening. Perhaps he's looking to stall.

REDD drops back looking for a heel hook - he quickly realises he's not going to get it but Neil manages to dive on top of him before he can escape and now REDD has Neil in his guard.

REDD is active off his back here, looking for submissions.
Neil seems content to control from guard here. He's going to have to remain active though if he doesn't want to get stood back up.

REDD looking for a sweep. Not yet REDD, not yet.

REDD has his foot on Neil's thigh. He's trying to push off and get in position for a triangle, I think. Neil works his way back into a safe position though.

REDD had isolated an arm as going for an omaplata. Neil is defending the submission well but is in a very vulnerable position. REDD Is leaning forward trying to finish the omaplata but decides to abandon it, and take Neil's back instead.

Neil really doesn't want to stay on the ground with REDD. If he can't get it back to his feet, it's only a matter of time before he'll be tapping out.
We've seen a great period of action over the last minute or so - credit to both fighters for leaving it all in the cage!

Neil really must keep his cool here. He's controlling one of REDD's hands and whilst he does that, he's got a chance of escaping the position.
As the round comes to an end the crowd are showing their appreciation for a great round of action.
Neil controlling the position well but he knows he's in a bad position.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

JAKE REDD dominated that round.
The fighters' corners scream their final instructions, as the referee calls time. Here we go, back to the action!

REDD drops down and drives through with a powerful takedown into guard.

Neil stops REDD from passing to mount.

Neil bucks up and manages to escape back to his feet!
Horrible takedown by REDD or perhaps it was just good defense by Neil which made him look bad.
JAKE REDD is looking to throw some combinations by the looks of things.

Neil moves into the clinch.
Neil lands a damaging elbow.

Neil breaks the clinch and we're back to striking at distance.
Both fighters are absolutely exhausted here.
REDD shoots for a takedown but Neil saw that one coming a mile off and avoided it easily.
Neil keeps the fight standing with a nice sprawl.

The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.

Neil stands up from REDD's guard - Neil perhaps looking for a knockout.

Neil closes the distance, clinches up and gets a nice trip takedown into side control. Very smooth.
Neil wants to stand but REDD has his arm trapped.
REDD is trying to improve his position.
JAKE REDD overall seems to be getting the better of the ground position in the fight so far.
REDD is working hard here to advance position.
REDD is sneaking out the side here. He's bucked Neil off and has taken his back!

REDD is working really hard to secure the rear naked choke. Neil defends successfully for a significant amount of time. Both fighters are looking very determined.
The crowd cheering loudly, showing their appreciation for the quality fight we're seeing here.

REDD is cranking Neil's head sideways - that looks painful. He's managed to get his other arm under the chin and this looks bad for Neil! He's tightened the choke and Neil is tapping out!
